Regarding the Stanley Cup finals:
If Detroit beats Chicago, and advances to the Stanley Cup finals to play Pittsburgh, it will be only the 4th time in the past 41 years that both finalists have played in back-to-back finals.
1967-68 season & 1968-69 season: Montreal vs St. Louis.
1976-77 season & 1977-78 season: Montreal vs Boston
1982-83 season & 1983-84 season: Edmonton & N.Y. Islanders
2007-08 season & 2008-09 season???: Detroit & Pittsburgh.
.....yeah, I've got that kind of stuff memorized. ask me to recite the list of Summer & Winter Olympics cities & years sometime.... ;D

This is a question for those members residing south of the 49th.
I'm currently planning a trip south through Washingtion, Idaho and Montana, eventually heading to Yellowstone national park. We were hoping to make camping reservations somewhere for the 4th of July long weekend, so that we aren't stuck somewhere with nowhere to stay.
My question is, since the 4th falls on a Saturday this year, which day is taken to be the statutory holiday, if any? Friday or Monday?
Thanks

I think it's Friday, the 3rd, but I'm not entirely certain.

hello? anyone?
This place has been pretty quiet lately, so I'm just going to write some random stuff for your personal amusement. If you are impatient and/or cranky, allow me to save you time by stopping you here |.
Today was my 2nd day of final exams. I wrote Earth Science on Tuesday, English today, I get to write Biology tomorrow followed by Math and Civics next week. English today entailed reading a lot of passages and answering various comprehension questions. There were about 9 or 10 of these passages all roughly about 150-200 words each. The exam itself was 141 questions long, with other various topics including Macbeth, Lord of the Flies, Grammar, Spelling, Poetry... all that good stuff. It was fairly boring, with a lot of words, but I think I did OK.

hello? anyone? This place has been pretty quiet lately, I only post when my #1 most-posts ranking is threatened from below by Karl. ....Hey: today on the Cur-con page of the BCFS website, I saw all 4 northern vessels in motion all at once. Summer must be soon for that to be happening. I enjoy following the Q-Chilliwack on the cur-con page. Today is her day-cruise to Bella Coola. Tomorrow is the trip from BCBC to Ocean Falls, BBBC, etc. edited to fix broken end quote tag

Oh, no, not words. The bane of every teenager's existence, for whom the default language is a variety of dismissive shrugs. At least that's what a parent hears. New Flyer's right- this forum has been pretty quiet lately. Not a terribly high daily usage. No arguments. Not even a lot of discussion. Hardy's apparently holed up in some truck stop in Gopher Knee, Saskatchewan, so nobody's been YELLING at BC Ferries management. Ruddernut's like those African frogs who burrow down and hibernate and only come out every few years for a bit of frantic activity. Northern Exploration must be busy making money back in T.O. Ship Rider is much more sparing in his praise of peoples' photography. Retro apparently went to sleep on a bus on the last run of the evening and is locked in the yard. Let's see... how could I perk things up.... Okay. Ferries suck. Harper rules. Kyle Fossett for Minister of Advanced Education. Only kazoo players wear Tilleys. ...can't say I didn't try.

It's probably going to happen. I personally hope it doesn't.
Would also love to see Hossa's face if he was on the losing cup team again. He'd be kicking himself for going to the "Winning" Team.

Watch it. Yeah, you got those Conservative fliers in the mail too I see... Kyle Fossett for Minister of Advanced Education. Talk to Gordo, I hear he's looking for a new Attorney-General... Only kazoo players wear Tilleys. ...and my dad. ----------------------------- On the note of politics, Vicki Huntington is running in another election: This time she's a candidate for most unliked person in my house. She's right there with George Bush, Paris Hilton and the CEO of GM. I'll let you know how the South Delta MLA does.

Best thing about South Delta is flyin' along Highway 17 trying to make the 7 AM ferry on a nice summer sunny morning when you're just south of Ladner Trunk road and it's already 6.35 AM. I'm going to argue that and say the best part of South Delta is sitting at Tsawwassen Beach in the evening, watching the sun set behind Galiano Island as the Coastal Inspiration blasts off for it's 1745 sailing.

Macbeth consisted of her telling us what it was about. Back to reality though I had my physics and math finals today; the only thing worse then words is numbers. Oh yes, Go Detroit!

Wait, can we argue about ratables and their effects on the small community? As I said on Facebook not two days ago (or thereabouts) here I am working away diligently and BCinNJ stirs up trouble quoting me and in general trying to cause mayhem . What the bleep are ratables? Inflatable dingies for rats to escape a sinking ship? A club for NIMBY's who rat on their neighbours for doing anything wrong? Or did you leave off the F and it is a cleaning service to sanitize frats after a party?

As what NF says, "Turn down the SUCK!" Ferries are fun to ride aboard. They're great platforms for us to see the great land the big man above gave us to see, as well as the beautiful marine life we come to love. Ferries don't suck. FERRIES ARE GREAT!!
I hope Detroit wins tomorrow. The Detroit Red Wings did their best. This was a difficult series for me to root for a particular team. Chris Osgood played for our Seattle Thunderbirds. But, I love Sidney Crosby and Mario Lemieux as well. I enjoyed watching the entire NHL season from start to the hoisting of the Stanley Cup by the players and staff of the winning team. It's sad to see another hockey season end. No more "Coach's Corner" with Don and Ron for awhile. But, all of this will restart in a few months. Now, with the remaining rinks melted of their ice, it's time to say good bye to snow and think about summer. Root on the New Westminster Salmonbellies for a great season!!! Hockey will be back again, soon. Thank you CBC for another great show!!

I'm going to take a moment to post this cut and paste I've made the last few Stanley Cups... I made this one in the last 10 minutes of the third. So glad that Pittsburgh won. For me it makes up for the Canucks losing in the 2nd round. Than again, I wouldn't have been happy if the cup had stayed in Detroit either way. Oh well, at least they "returned the favor" so to speak. And Might I add, Pittsburgh won the cup after touching the Conference Trophy... At least one superstition was put to rest...for now. The pic above is probably going to be copied by next year's conference winner...

I just noticed something about these photos and footage of the game last night... apparently there must be something lost in translation, or maybe it just doesn't translate into Russian, because Malkin doesn't seem to endorse the superstition/tradition of the playoff beard ( ;D) though he could doubtless grow a much better one than most of the rest of his team, and probably look much more becoming in it, too. Should be an unofficial rule that anyone who can't actually grow a decent beard and look good in it should be barred from doing so.

Found a bit of an entertaining website to browse through. It lists the worlds ugliest ships, and I think the judgements are pretty well spot on for most of them. I think we'll recognize a few ships in there as well, including our very own Seabus. uglyships.wordpress.com/

I like how the Queen of Chilliwack is not on that list, yet the Coastals and the Seabus's are.
Cheers,

Well guys, I went to go see Coldplay last night.... amazing concert. I-mazing. They opened with the acoustic version of Life in Technicolor, and closed with the vocal version of it. Some hits played include, In My Place, Clocks, Viva La Vida, Lost!, The Hardest Part.... just to name a few.
They also gave us a free copy of their new CD, Left Right Left Right Left, which basically sums up some of their less-known hits.
