There are some TV shows that I know of, but haven't really watched too many episodes of. MacGyver is one of those. I am more familiar with the pop culture references to the show than with the show itself. (so "no", I don't remember seeing the Horseshoebay episode. ---------------
Oh, here's my on-topic comment, to make this post legit: BCFS seems to be posting a lot of service notices lately.

Service Notices - Alliford Bay-Skidegate
Berth Maintenance Posted March 02, 2007 Saltery Bay - Earls Cove
Beginning March 7, 2007 through March 21, 2007, Saltery Bay's primary berth (Berth 2) will be closed to undergo necessary maintenance.
During this time, the Queen of Chilliwack will operate from Berth 1, beginning with the 11:20 am sailing from Saltery Bay.
Customers are advised that BC Ferries staff will be on-site to direct traffic during loading however, minor delays may be possible.
Berth 2 is expected to re-open at the beginning of the service day on March 22, 2007 for sailings between Saltery Bay and Earl's Cove.
BC Ferries thanks our customers for their cooperation while this necessary maintenance is completed.
So why does it say Alliford Bay to Skidegate if it's for Saltery Bay to Earls Cove??? Is that so damn hard to figure out, lol! They just keep looking stupid when they do these service notices!

Delayed Sailing: Queen of New Westminster Posted March 03, 2007
Updated as of 4:45 pm
The 3:15 pm sailing of the Queen of New Westminster had to return to Tsawwassen due to a passenger medical emergency.
The Queen of New Westminster will depart Tsawwassen at approximately 5:15 pm.
As a result the 5:45 pm sailing out of Duke Point will be approximately 2 hours behind schedule.
BC Ferries apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause our customers.
So the 5:45pm sailing wont leave till 7:45pm from Duke Point. Good thing that is the last sailing or else it would be a late night for the crews!

Beginning April 10th for approximately one month, service between Brentwood Bay and Mill Bay will be unavailable while the Mill Bay is removed from service to undergo a scheduled refit.
Completion of this important refit is required every four years to ensure the vessel’s continued safe operations. Nanaimo Shipyards will be undertaking the project which will involve:

The Mill Bay is expected to resume service on May 10, 2007.
BC Ferries looks forward to returning the Mill Bay back to service following this scheduled refit.
Looks like the Mill Bay will in Nanaimo for it's refit work. Nanaimo guys be sure to get out there to get some photos.

I don’t understand why BCF doesn’t replace the Mill Bay with a temporary vessel rather than shutting the route down... Would the Klitsa not be a good vessel for this route?

The issue is that the docks only fit the Mill Bay and nothing bigger. Otherwise it would have to be something to do with the crews.

A coworker of mine was on the NorAd on the Thursday night/Friday morning run from Skidegate to Prince Rupert - delayed departure to 7:30 AM because of "operational issues" and he described it as the worst ferry trip he has had from the Charlottes to Rupert - BCF was giving away the food and offering free future trips. The weather was bad but the delay was operational. The NorAd has had many operational delays since coming onto the northern runs last week - maybe it is a lemon ;D

JJR: can you explain what the "operational delay" was? Was it simply a matter of it taking too long to load the vehicles on the ship? (ie. the slow backing-on of the trucks?). Or was it something else.
Also, why was the trip so bad? Is this the weather that you're referring to? Is the NorAd worse in the bad weather than the other ships were?
Just curious, as I'm trying to understand some of the first-hand accounts that are now being reported about the Norad.

I can see a float plane trip back to Prince Rupert coming up in my near future. JST in QCI Jim: do you have any idea what the "operational delay" is all about? Are we talking a few hours, or days, or weeks that NorAd might be out of service? Any guesses? Thanks for your "on the scene" reporting. Are you enjoying the QCI? Where are you doing hiking and stuff? (Naikoon ?)
