The Sealth is scheduled to go into drydock (Vigor) next week. I'm guessing WSF wanted to move the Sealth south so it would be closer to the shipyard (possibly due to crewing availability as it seems like WSF can only move one vessel at a time right now).

Normally don't post these kinds of service bulletins because they seem to be routine these days, but today's cancellations seem like a lot, even for WSF, and we've been discussing the possible earlier return of Sidney service in that thread, but today is a prime example of why even thinking about Sidney is a long way off. Some of these services have resumed, but Samish is out until the 12:35 sailing to Lopez. One round of inter-island sailings is cancelled this morning, and both Mukilteo-Clinton and Point Defiance-Tahlequah routes were down a boat this morning. In the case of PD-T, their only boat. wsdot.com/ferries/schedule/bulletin.aspx

The night before "sailings may be cancelled/route may be out of service" alerts seem to be more common now (particularly on the San Juan Inter island and Tahlequah/Point Defiance route which are now several times a week).

Where can I sign up for one of these crew positions that dozens of people aren't showing up for?

Still at 15 ferries, with quite a few changes today. Yakima returned to A2, Kaleetan to Bremerton and Issaquah to Bainbridge replaced Puyallup and leaving Edmonds with just the Spokane.

Kitsap had a hard landing at Southworth earlier and is out of service, and Suquamish is on its way to Vashon from Bainbridge Island, leaving Tacoma to run alone. This on top of having one-boat service with Spokane at Edmonds/Kingston, and Salish at Mukilteo/Clinton with Tokitae. What a mess.

Looks like Kitsap made it back in service for today. SUQ returned to Bainbridge for the 845a. Still... Yikes that had to happen, but still good that they could make something work for the long Vashon lines.

After yesterday's repeat of last week's issues, it appears WSF has swapped Kitsap and Suquamish for the time being. Kitsap went to Seattle/Bainbridge after it was fixed, and Suquamish stayed at FVS. I wonder if Kitsap's issues are not fully resolved, and WSF wants to keep it closer to Eagle Harbor? Also this looks extra strange with Issaquah running at Mukilteo/Clinton when it usually hangs around Vashon.

Kitsap now at Bremerton, so maybe. Just likely avoiding issues with moving ships for crewing reasons.

I feel like I wish that WSF would share more information about the status of the Chimacum. She ran for a few days at Bremerton successfully after returning to service, gets sent to Bainbridge and after a day, is already removed from service and replaced by the Kitsap (again). She's definitely been out of service more the last 2 years than in service. So dunno what the issues continue to be.... One after the other, that's for sure.

Excellent reporting by the occasionally maligned (as too tough on WSF) Susannah Frame. Nearly a year ago, after the first report was released, I made some comments, here: ferriesbc.proboards.com/post/204491Among the things I noted is a total lack of discipline on the bridge - passing control from one bridge to the other leaving Vashon without a mate present, and on approach to Fauntleroy the quartermaster was doing everything but actually looking out the windows and monitoring the approach. In the linked article, you'll note that WSF has picked up on these issues and claim they have instituted " a new Bridge Resource Management policy that standardize pilot house operating standards fleet-wide." However, it is only in Frame's report today that we hear this Captain's work record really slid downhill the last two years of his career. WSF, facing an employee shortage, particularly of certified deck officers, seemed slow to respond to his performance issues in a meaningful way. She describes an incident where he was standing on the Southworth dock while his ship was sailing, with only a chief mate on board. He later falsified the ship's log to indicate that he was on board. Excuse me. What? "An internal review found Cole violated six codes of conduct including “abandoning his worksite,” “neglecting his duties,” and “falsification of documents.” ... The records disclosed to KING do not show any management action after the January 2020 incident: no reprimands, no suspensions, no disciplinary measures."(Frame uploaded the report, here: www.documentcloud.org/documents/24437303-10820-fact-finding-report)This is insane to me and speaks to deep cultural and management issues at WSF (I mean, we knew that already...) that need to be urgently addressed.

'northwesterner's suggestion that WSF could have downplayed this captain's deficiencies might be quite accurate, given the shortage of qualified mariners that many marine employers have faced over the last few years. This guy may have completed thousands of crossings without incident, but his record of transgressions should have been addressed by an employer fully invested in delivering a safe transit system to people travelling over water. Excellent reporting, and very unsettling.

Interesting it's a one-day swap. Hopefully a minor issue that they just need a little more time to address. Walla Walla has suffered a number of issues in the past year.
