but at a very minimum they are "good to go" for ... 3, ... Let's not give Rte 3 customers any ideas

Let's not give Rte 3 customers any ideas LOL - irrespective of the arguments to the contrary, I do not think that Rte-3 has the volume of ridership on a consistent basis AT THIS POINT to justify a Coastal Class boat. However, during peak relief periods, it could be a viable alternative to running an extra boat on the route. Ponder for a minute the alternative of running a Coastal on Rte-3 during peak period instead of the Surrey and a V, and instead using those two boats to provide greater frequency on Rte-2. A little bit OUT THERE as far as ideas go, but it adds capacity and frequency. Back again to my point in the original post, INTEROPERABILITY and versatility. Two strong hallmarks and something that should be taken seriously in all future designs as well. Just think -- by the time we keep upgrading, we will be ordering 'Mega-C' or 'Super-Coastals'!

I think they get the Cow and the Coqu after all the vessel re-placements?

Wow, the CC is coming along...or at least seems like it seeming I don't keep daily track of the construction. I think they get the Cow and the Coqu after all the vessel re-placements? I think Route 3 will hold on to the Surrey right up until the bitter end when she's retired. There's no convincing them with anything else. I've heard mixed rumours of the Coquitlam sticking to Route 2 doing supplemental, while the Cowichan might actually go to Route 30 with removed Gallery decks in the future. Supposebly the 'Saanich might take on the 'Esquimalts position, and do the Supplemental service on Route 3 in the summer, and Route 2 in the winter.

I don't know if I was sleeping all week this week or what...But when I opened up the live webcam at Flensburger, it looks like most of the modules have now been installed. Just a day or two ago, the hull as it was needed some more modules installed. But now it looks like the hull is near complete, and almost all of the modules up to the bows a done. Absolutely stunning progress guys!!

markus, was there a reason for the different layout of modules on the celebration vs inspiration/renaissance...i know that the upper decks should have a somewhat different layout with the allowance for different food services but should the hull not be identical or is it identical with the modules being constructed differently...just curious. thanks

We have a different food service on one end, but the modules, i.e. the steel structure is nearly the same. The same walls and ways but some more piping therefore more holes in the steel. But despite that everything is exactly the same.

LOL ;D Our "module-painting-department" used an old plan for the first to vessels. In fact, the plan for the last ship is the correct one- cool no one from us noticed! So, every vessel has been built according the same scheme - no differences in the layouts.

Markus, I laughed when I saw the extension ladder tilted off at an angle with only one of its feet on the ground (in the photos of the rudder and wheel). I guess ship builders are not that much different from house builders.

Marcus are there two full shifts working on the CC or one shift with specialized groups working off hours? Are those still modules for the NorEx in the hall with the CC?

It´s Mar"k"us :-) In some stations work is done in two shifts. Welding is done a lot in the second shift, after the shipbuilder has set the parts in the first shift. Painting is done during the night in the third shift. There are no "specialized" night groups. Yes, this is the third module for the NorEx in the foreground.

Is there going to be the usual ceremony for the launch with the Coastal Celebration? Or, will they just cut to the chase, and push her into the water and be done with it? It doesn't really look like the covered berth is really prepared for a launching ceremony at all at the moment.

Yeah Chris all the gangways are still up and equipment in in the doors of the Ferry. Maybe they have delayed the launch so not to steal CR's day of arrival.

It doesn't really look like the covered berth is really prepared for a launching ceremony at all at the moment. There will be a big ceremony tomorrow, Mr. Trafford Taylor is already in Flensburg to join the launching. The reason why you still see people working is that we use every minute :-) Slipway is cleaned, protective structure around rudder is mounted, now they should be letting the water in. Business as usual
