It's time for us to pay another visit to FSG. They get early sunrises there this time of the year. That nextbuilding in the "Shipbuilders Cathedral" is really taking shape. It was a real privilege for me to meet some major people of FSG at the Open Ship aboard the NORTHERN EXPEDITION in Port Hardy. Keep on building great ships, FSG!

We will go on trial trip with this first ship (the prototype) on Thursday June, 17th, abt. 8 o´clock in the morning. We will do the same route as with 748, sail around bornholm, test everything and come back on Saturday, June 19th. I will be on board and keep you informed!

Happy Monday, FSG! The ship in the outfitting slip has been turned around and the ship in the "cathedral" has her first nose job. I hate to say this, but we see a comeback of sorts. Can you see that fuzz in the red circle? I guess we can say we are watching "SPIDERVISION" again!

06-18-2009 The next new ship has her true nose installed now. Meanwhile, the dock is clear. The MAZARINE is well underway on her sea trial session. As of this moment, she is approaching the Rodbyhavn ferry crossing as seen on marinetraffic.com. Mr. Brinkmann must be enjoying another nice cruise aboard another newbuilding from his magnificent yard.

On a related, but totally off topic note, I noticed yesterday on my drive in that Aker Philadelphia's latest build is out for sea trials, too. You can watch progress of the latest build here. Enjoy!

06-19-2009 The MAZARINE is now heading back to FSG. Mr. Brinkmann must be sitting on the deck chair looking up to the stars and hearing more of the usual customer satisfaction comments the happy folks aboard are saying. Man, do we wish we had his job! That gentleman sure has lots of fun in his chosen profession.

The MAZARINE is back at FSG. Yesterday, she crossed the Rostock ferry at 1840PDT and the Rodbyhavn ferry at 2000PDT before arriving FSG after 0200PDT today. Here is a YouTube presentation of her arrival: Welcome home, Mr. Brinkmann. Hope your cruise was great!

Happy Saturday, Flensburg! The sun is rising over FSG. The MAZARINE is looking shipshape. Inside, the next one is looking very spiffy! She now awaits the gray paint on the hull with dark upper trim. For Mr. Brinkmann, when is the next launch and the delivery voyage of the MAZARINE?

07-06-2009 The next newbuild inside has been nicely painted. This indicates that another launch is forthcoming. Outside, a tug has arrived. Meanwhile, FSG has introduced to us shipbuilding fans a family member of CEO Mr. Peter Sierk. His son, Janek. Yard 741 - 15.06.2009 On the 15th of June 2009, a long standing partnership between Cobelfret and Flensburger was continued by starting the building process of Yard 741. With pride and pleasure, Janek Sierk pressed the red button. We have Yard 739 to see launched next. Then, 740 gets placed on the ways. After that, Janek's ship. I wished Mr. Sierk could have brought Janek with him for the NORTHERN EXPEDITION's Open Ship at Port Hardy. Would have been great to meet Janek.

What program/website do you use to find the positions of ships, or do you just use some sort of radar/gps thing? I've seen it a few times on this forum, and i want to try it out if I can...

The tracking is web-based. www.marinetraffic.comwww.siitech.comWe were blessed in having these tracking sites, as well as BCF's delivery tracker of the imports from Germany, for webcam capture purposes. Lots of web searching for whatever webcams were done for the delivery of the COASTAL RENAISSANCE, COASTAL INSPIRATION, COASTAL CELEBRATION, NORTHERN EXPEDITION, and the Greek import SONIA (now NORTHERN ADVENTURE or "QUEEN OF PORTHOLES" if you like to call that one with all those portholes around her). Enjoy!

07-10-2009 TODAY IS DELIVERY DAY FOR THE NEW MAZARINE. It's a minute after 0300 in Flensburg. Final night for FSG as host of the MAZARINE. Sunrise. Housekeeping chores for FSG staff: the restoration of keel protectors on the ways. Last "tile" of the keel protectors being moved into place. Ramp rises on the MAZARINE. MAZARINE now departing from FSG. On her way out. Heading out of the Fjord. Have a great voyage and a successful career, MAZARINE! Meanwhile, The PALATINE has moved over to the other side of the pier and has her ramp down. Work continues as usual at FSG... Did we ever get an official verdict as to whether or not the mild lobbying efforts(ya right) to the Feds to excuse the import tariffs on the 4 vessels were successful? What was it in the $25-50 mil range. Did BCFerries have to write a cheque or were the Transport Canada subsidies for the various routes docked?

The import duties haven't as far I've seen (yet) been rescinded by Canada Customs / Ministry of Finance. These things take time to work their way through. But I can try to find out where it might be in terms of progress. My guess is that since Ottawa is cleaned out for the summer, being BBQ season for the politicians and political hacks and andlers) and The House isn't due back in Session until Mid eptember, it's probably floating around somewhere in the ureaucracy. A bit confused about his other question regarding Transport anada "subsidies for routes docked". Transport Canada is a egulatory / inspection / investigation agency. Maritime traffic concerns are the balliwick of the Canadian Coast uard, a subset of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries. The only ocks that at that level are the "Government Wharf" fixtures that sed to be everywhere ( wood rails and fixtures painted the distinctive Canada Red). Say, I think Mr. Keenleyside has a new spelling for September: "eptember"A few other words are interestingly spelled, too. Ah, the wonderful world of words and spelling! ;D

Where I was going with that: -would BC(either BC Ferries or the BC government) have to right a cheque -or would moneys coming the other way be docked. I came up with-->I believe some routes are federally subsidized-->so...
