Hi, I am fairly new to the forum. I grew up on the coast and loved taking the ferries to visit my grand-parents in Victoria. The old V class are near and dear to my heart and was saddened to see them depart the fleet. I remember them in their prime, fresh from lifting and the smell of wet white and baby blue paint. Ever since I think I am totally hooked on ferries. I have enjoyed this forum for several years and although I no longer live on the coast I still long for a trip to the island on a ferry. Soon I hope. Nice to know there are so many people with a common interest.

To answer new member Sebsbcferries's signature-question, my favourite ferry is the Northern Expedition. - I've spent only 16 hours on her, but what a nice ship.
....my favourite frequent-ferry is the Coastal Inspiration, a ship I take more often and always enjoy.
Why do you like SOVI ?

To answer Sebsbcferries' question, my favorites can be found here, but here's a quote from my post to speed things up: I'll keep to ferries that are still in service. 1: The NorEx. She's the best-looking big-ship in the fleet, and is really comfortable inside. 2: Queen of Chilliwack. Don't stab me, please. She's unique, and fairly enjoyable. 3: Coastal Celebration. Her buffet sets her apart from the rest of her class. Very enjoyable ride, and as mentioned above, she disperses crowds well. 4: Tenaka. She has that little boat charm, and she's fun to explore. She has a personality that many other ferries do not. 5: Queen of New West. I put her on the bottom of the top because when busy, she can be a royal pain in the you-know-where. She's a great ship to ride though.
Least favorites: 1: My least favorite of them all, the Cowichan/Coquitlam/Surrey/Oak Bay (but not Alberni). They're horrible to ride, handle crowds horribly, they're drafty (never been able to take of my jacket on the Coquitlam, Surrey, or Cowichan), ugly, and uncomfortable. Riding them feels like a giant exam hall. 2: NorAd. She's ugly (what a surprise), top-heavy, dumb, and fat. She rocks like a drunk, even in the calmest of seas. 3: The Spirits. Big, boxy, and overall ew. 4: North Island Princess. She may have endured a lot over her long life, but take a look at her. She's really ugly, and really doesn't have any charm to her. Bland. 5: Kuper. She may have a cute name, but boy is she ugly. I also carry a grudge against her, since BCF could have just waited two more years and bought the Klatawa or Kulleet.
Since I posted that, I think the NorEx and Queen of Chilliwack have switched to a tie of 1st/2nd, and in the least favorite, the Kuper and NIP have switched places.

So a lot of you are probably thinking to yourselves that this is the LEAST likely place on the forum I would ever show my face again. But, I was looking back at some of the posts on Page 1 of this thread, reminiscing about our old frustrations, when I realized that a lot has changed since I was 13. So, I've decided to give you guys a re-introduction to the 19-almost-20-year-old Michael (brain cells inclusive).
I am currently a second-year university student studying Urban and Rural Transportation Planning, as well as Business and Economics. I really enjoy what I do, and although it's a lot of work and effort, it doesn't really feel like work at all.
My latest project is the West Coast Ferries GuideBook which will be released in the next week or so.
My updated list of ferries I've never been on are: -Nimpkish -Northern Adventure -Kuper
The past six years have been a lot of fun, much has evolved, and will continue to do so.

Thanks for that, Mike, and umm, welcome to the forum!!! I guess I'll update mine, although it's probably changed less than some of the older members. I've only been here since June 2009. So I'm Luke, and I have 1.5 years left of highschool to put under my belt. I'll be applying at the Canadian Coast Guard College for my post-secondary, and that's been my plan for the last 3 years or so. My list of ferries that I've never been on, of the BCF fleet are: -Howe Sound Queen -Kahloke (may have actually ridden this ship filling in on the Albion Ferry run) -Klitsa ( " ) -Kuper -Mayne Queen -Nimpkish -North Island Princess -Quadra Queen II -Queen of Cumberland -Quinitsa -Quinsam -Skeena Queen -Tenaka So I HAVE ridden 63% of the BCF fleet.

Hi, Thought I might introduce myself here as well - and not be just a mystery poster. My name is Timo, in my mid-thirties, and I am a Finnish former sailor who decided he must live an honest life and remained ashore. I spent almost five years on ships, mostly paper carriers but also on some ferries, like the Greek ferry SUPERFAST VIII between Finland and Germany and also a short spell on Viking Lines MARIELLA. Nowadays I am a teacher and my current subjects are History, Comparative Religious Science and Social Studies. Just at the moment I am studying again, in order to have the right to teach Psychology and Philosophy as well. I collect ships brochures and General Arrangement plans and have now some material of over 2000 vessels. Well, for Canadian ferries, I have visited exactly none. Although I have travelled with some of them before they ended up there - AURELLA and SUPERFAST IX - a bonus for anyone who knows their Canadian names... I have only been to some of the ports in the River St Lawrence-area in Canada. Vessels I have travelled with makes all in all 71 different ships, as some of these have changed owners and names: Viking Line: Aurella, Kapella, Marella, Mariella, Turella, Rosella, Amorella, Isabella, Gabriella, Cinderella, Kalypso, Diana II, Viking Sally, Jupiter (charter vessel), Viking XPRS Silja Line (including Wasa Line): Botnia Express, Finnjet, Sally Star, Silja Opera, Silja Serenade, Silja Symphony, Silja Europa, Silja Festival, Silja Star Eckerölinjen: Eckerö (ex Svea Scarlett), Alandia, Roslagen (the current one), Nordlandia, Eckerö (ex Jens Kofoed) Tallink: Tallink, Georg Ots, Normandy, Vana Tallinn, Meloodia, Fantaasia, Romantika, Superfast VII, Superfast VIII, Superfast IX, Star, Superstar, Galaxy, Baltic Princess, Regina Baltica Attika Enterprises: Superfast VII, Superfast VIII, Blue Star 2 Minoan Lines: Knossos Palace DFDS: Pearl of Scandinavia, Crown of Scandinavia Birka Cruises: Birka Princess, Birka Paradise Others: Birger Jarl, Degerö, Utö, Styrsö Scandlines: Prins Joachim Tuule Laivad, Estonia: Saaremaa, Muhumaa, Körgelaid Kristina Cruises: Kristina Regina, Kristina Katarina Norfolkline: Liverpool Viking Irish Ferries: Ulysses Stella Lines: Julia Saimaa Travel: Brahe Polferries: Scandinavia Stena Line: Stena Baltica, Stena Vision Coastal and lake steamers and excursion vessels: Punkaharju, Lake Star, JL Runeberg, Puijo, Paul Wahl, Carelia, Aspö

Hi, Thought I might introduce myself here as well - and not be just a mystery poster. Timo, thanks for that introduction. Kiitos That must be the first ever Finnish written on this forum. And here comes the Finnish for "You are welcome" or "no problem": Eipä kestä. (Translated word to word it actually would mean "Does not last"! Weird language...) If you wish someone welcome, then the correct phrase would be "Tervetuloa".

Hey, I've posted a few times on the boards and forgot to add my introduction. My name is Paul, I'm a second year grad student studying US History, and I spent most of my life in and around the Puget Sound region. My grandfather was a long time Washington State Ferries employee, which meant that I grew up around the ferry fleet. Most of my travel on the ferry fleet was limited to the Rhododendron, but I've still got a soft spot in my heart for the Steel Electric and the Evergreen State class boats. Sorry for not introducing myself sooner!

Good Morning . . .
I'm guessing I missed the boat (no pun intended) on introducing myself.
Lurked here for a bit and joined in December primarily to look at all the Alaska Ferry and old Steamship threads. Grew up in Skagway, Alaska and I'm now up north in Glennallen. Been on every Alaska, including Chilkat and Wickersham, and a couple BC and Washington State ferries. Was afforded a ferry ride on a ferry across the north sea many moons ago whilst taking a train from Germany to Denmark.
I also have quite a collection of train photos from the White Pass and Yukon between Skagway and Whitehorse if anyone's interested in seeing them.
If anyone likes airplanes I can recommend a site for you to visit where I'm an admin. And I have my own cooking web site as well if anyone would like to see that.
Great forum. Thanks for having me aboard.

They're on my home computer Nick so this weekend when I've got a minute I'll load 'em up. I have a great pic of a wreck that happened in the 60s just south of Whitehorse. My grandfather was the engineer, my father the Superintendent. Pop asked Grandpop if he'd seen the washout on the bridge? Grandpop said yes, I saw it. Pop asked, why didn't you stop? Grandpop said, I thought I could get the locomotives over the washout. My Pop looked at Grandpop deadpan and said Well, what had you planned to do with the rest of the train?! Ha Ha. Gramps got a month on the beach for that. I'll post the pics this weekend.
