Here are some pics I took on a non-ferry excursion I made with my girlfriend yesterday. We escaped the heat of Puget Sound and drove out to the coast - specifically, to the southwest corner of our fair state, ending up at Ilwaco, Long Beach, and Cape Disappointment at the mouth of the Columbia River. It was nice and cool out there, and to my surprise, quite foggy for most of the day.

Some North Jetty landscaping, and the fog is starting to roll back in

The Astoria Bridge
The return trip, as you can see, was via Astoria. We crossed back into Washington at Longview on another high bridge similar to this one. All in all, it was a very fun day, even if it didn't include ferries

Thanks for the pics Orcas. Brings back memories. My last trip to Oregon was that same route through Long Beach and over the Astoria Bridge. We stayed at the Thunderbird Inn just a bit up river from the bridge. The Hotel/Motel is in an L shape around the marina so pretty cool setting. The place was getting a bit run down and in need of a midlife upgrade as extensive as the QNW, so word of warning to check if you are considering staying there.
We stayed at Salishan just south of Lincoln City (now a Westin) for old times sake, as we used to weekend there when I was a kid. The at the Best Western Hallmark Inn in Newport. There was a furious storm so was very cool to be right on the beach. I would highly recommend either if you budget allows.

Kam, I checked your Flickr account shots, and the other photos are great too! I especially like the one of the Celebration of Light taken from Nanaimo (maybe you could post it in here if you get a moment) - that's awesome, I didn't know they could be seen that well from that far away.
Late edit... found the photo Kam took in another thread so I'll post it here:

Great pics Orcas. What does Safeco have for concession stands?
Baltimore has a great food selection and you can actually eat at the field with some great food such as ribs and the famous Maryland crabcakes. Our BMO Field where our Soccer team loses ahem plays, has great food choices as well. However, the Skydome with the Blue Jays has the usual lackluster ballpark fare.

They offer a pretty good variety of food. There's plenty of standard ballbark food - ie. hot dogs, pizzas, nachos, cotton candy, and the like. One of the signature items is Garlic Fries, and it seems to be quite popular. Ivars has stands there for your seafood cravings. Kidd Valley gets you your burger fix. There's a couple of BBQ places, and you can also get sushi and Thai. In addition, there's an actual sit-down cafe out in right field where you can eat your meal and watch the game. And, being Seattle, there's plenty of espresso stands for your coffee fix. Here's a list of all the food choices available at the stadium, direct from their website:
I prefer Tom foolery, skull dugery, pop cockery, nincompoopery! ;D just some fun with words though.
The propellers on the ferry go round and round, round and round, round and round the propellers on the ferry go round and round all through the straight.
Here is the Y tube of the weather cell moving over Seattle this evening. We had brief power outage in Bayview on South Whidbey at 4 PM. I noticed the Several Thunder heads over towards South Everett and Bothell. According to KOMO Weather Bog there was a funnel spotted in Bothell.
