Service Notice prediction for tomorrow: The Skeena Queen is running on three legs right now, since one of the engines has a blown turbo. Docking takes a little longer as the leg kitty cornered to the locked out leg is de-clutched meaning she does landings with only two legs (K-Class style). The reason why I expect there to be delays (if the turbo hasn't been replaced by then), is because tomorrow is Market Day Saturday on Salt Spring. The schedule has 5 round trips to Swartz Bay instead of the regular 4 for the morning. The regular four trips in the morning means that she runs slow (10.5 knots), and for Saturdays she's running full speed up to 15 knots in order to stay on time with the Saturday schedule. With three legs she can only maintain about 11 or 12 knots (depending on which direction you're going), with the three legs running at full capacity. However, the even though the schedule reverts back to the regular routine for the afternoon, the rush that came over in the morning comes back in the afternoon and there's usually delays loading the ship for full out of Fulford. Just a heads up for any of you either watching or travelling tomorrow

1730 departure from SWB was delayed 32 minutes; no arrival time was posted for that sailing. South of Saturna detour?

Today's delays:
SOVI - 20 minutes - mechanical. Mayne Queen - 21 minutes - traffic. Queen of Coquitlam - 22 minutes - mechanical + traffic + medical. Queen of Surrey - 37 minutes - medical. Skeena Queen - 36 minutes - traffic.
For a comparatively short route, Langdale - HSB seems to get a disproportionate number of delays due to medical emergencies. I'm not sure what's wrong with the Sunshine Coast demographic to the point that they are so much more likely to need medical attention on their 40 minute sail than the VI demographic needs on their 1:35/2h sails to VI.

BC Ferries has posted the schedule for the Queen of Chilliwack on route 17 while the Burnaby's in refit.
She's turning into the annual winter boat for this route, isn't she? [/size]

Today's (major) delays:
Queen of Coquitlam - 34 minutes - medical. Queen of Surrey - 16 minutes - medical.
Usage surprisingly light today given the long weekend. Only Dep Bay and Langdale are reporting sailing waits, with a one sailing wait at both terminals.

Posted Monday, September 5, 2011 Print Version Note: This Service Notice applies to the following route(s): - Prince Rupert - Queen Charlotte Islands (Skidegate) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Update as of 2:30 pm
Sailing Cancellation - Prince Rupert - Haida Gwaii
Please be advised that due to ongoing adverse weather conditions in the North Coast area, the following Northern Adventure scheduled sailings from Prince Rupert to Haida Gwaii have been cancelled.
10:00 pm Monday September 5th departure from Prince Rupert. 11:00 am Tuesday September 6th departure from Skidegate.
Customers that had reservations for the cancelled sailings will be re-booked on the next scheduled sailings. Passengers will be confirmed according to the date and time of their original booking.
[WCK comment]While the weather is just great down south here, up on the north coast it is NOT. Most of the summer has been like late October. This is, I think, the first weather-related sailing cancellation of the 'fall' of 2011.[/WCK comment] www.bcferries.com/bcfservicenotice?id=540473

It will be interesting to see how many cancellations there will be on the Haida Gwai route once the Nor ex takes over the route for the winter.

I agree mrdot, and in retrospect there's a fine ship that just made a long open sea voyage that used to handle bad weather up North quite well ;D

Looks like the Kuper is having some pretty major mechanical issues, atleast one might think so when an entire evening's schedule is cancelled...
