I wasn't sure if we had a thread dedicated to this already, but now we know for sure!
I'd like to make a list of the Ferry terminals that have a restaurant/cafe close to the Ferry terminal. I'll kick off the thread with this format. As suggestions are posted by others, I'll edit them into this initial post as a guide in the future.
Salt Spring Island
Vesuvius Bay:
Seaside Restaurant: Awesome fish and chips. Usually enough time to relax, enjoy your meal and get back into your car if you arrive just minutes after the ferry departs.
Fulford Harbour:
Rock Salt Cafe: Has a cafe and a restaurant side to it. The cafe has quick service for coffee/baked goods/sandwiches. The restaurant has a meal menu with decent prices.
Long Harbour:
Bring your own food from Ganges/10 minute drive away
Gabriola Island - Nanaimo Harbour
Descanso Bay:
Whitehart Pub: I don't think there's a restaurant side to it, so it wouldn't be any good if you have the kids with you.
Nanaimo Harbour:
Thrifty Foods grocery store (with deli) is across the street.
Pender Island
Otter Bay:
I think there's a little third party concession set up right beside the ferry dock. Could be open seasonally.
Mayne Island
Village Bay:
Similar to Pender Island, a third party concession setup within the terminal, but at the top of the hill close to where you enter/exit the terminal.
Hornby Island
Shingle Spit:
Thatch Pub: right at the ferry. Sundeck to enjoy your pint on, decent food, though the service is sometimes slow, so don't order a burger when your car's in line.
Campbell River - Quadra Island - Cortes Island[/u][/b]
Campbell River:
- McDonalds is down the street. short walk. - Duke's Restaurant across the street (in honour of John Wayne)
Heriot Bay: (East Quadra)
- Heriot Bay Inn right beside - Heriot Bay grocery store is just up the road beside the ferry line up.
Horseshoe Bay:
- Troll's is quite well known for fish and chips and it's an excellent place for breakfast. I normally arrive at the terminal quite early to grab lunch here.
- Troller Pub is perfect if you end up in a multiple sailing wait or have a craving for pub food/ beer (expecially if you're the passenger and there's a long sailing wait )
- Blenz is convenient for grabbing a coffee and light snack. It's Just across the street from the Foot passenger booth
-Ya Ya's Oyster Bar : Good food and good local ales.
Powell River
Westview:
There are a bunch of options here. Mainly Asian Cuisine and Cafes.
-Thaidal Zone: Across From Terminal Lot. -Dutch Cafe: Across from Ticketing Area. -Marine Inn (Cafe/Dining Room): On the Corner of Wharf and Marine directly after exiting Ferry Terminal. -Rocky Mountain Pizza: Uphill from the Ferry Terminal on Marine Avenue. -Chaing Mai (Thai/Cambodian): Also on Marine next to Rocky Mountain.
Saltery Bay:
-Saltery Bay Snack Shack: It only operates in the Summer so all other times of the year you'd be better suited to Grab a Tims/A&W or whatever your preference is before you leave Powell River.
Texada Island[/u][/size]
Blubber Bay
-Holtenwood Gallery (Cafe Casita): A Mexican Cafe in the back of the gallery serves baked goods and bistro food.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok I'll let you guys suggest other ones

Descanso Bay:I know of a pub right beside the terminal....can't remember its name. I don't think there's a restaurant side to it, so it wouldn't be any good if you have the kids with you. Whitehart pub. as in a pale deer. not a pale beer, although they may have an IPA for you to drink.

One to avoid: the little cafe on the water side of the road, right by the Orcas ferry dock. Worst fish and chips I've ever had. Expensive, tiny portion, and deep fried to fossilized crispness. Revolting.
Thatch pub on Hornby is good, right at the ferry. Sundeck to enjoy your pint on, decent food, though the service is sometimes slow, so don't order a burger when your car's in line.

Galiano has a few little places to eat too a short walk from the ferry terminal. I think a few of us have been to one of those places before.

:)there is a very captive place to eat or quick snack, at the Kootenay Bay ferry landing while waiting for the best free half hour ferry ride across the lake to Balfour, everyone who does the Kootenay Lake best free ride, is often captive at this site! :)mrdot.

Re: Otter Bay Terminal. . .
I haven't been on Pender for a few years now, but Chris is correct about the 3rd party burger shack right next to the ferry dock, called "The Stand". It's one of my favorite grease shacks of all time!
I have eaten at both the Vesuvius and Fulford places, and was satisfied with my experiences. They each have little decks that face the water too, not bad for ferry watching.
One place that could really use a good food stand is Langdale. I know, they have a local bakery company in there now, but they need something more than pre-made baking and sannies. With as many cars as they have, and 2 hours typically between sailings, it rains success to me.

Here are some...
Horseshoe Bay: Starbucks, just down the street from the terminal. FreshSlice Pizza, also just down the street from the terminal. Subway, about a block away. For those who're classy, there's the Boathouse. Mmmmmm......
Waiting for the 'Barkley at Port Alberni, there's a great seafood restaurant called The Water's Edge, just a few steps from the dock.
In West Bamfield, there's the Bamfield General Store just up from the government dock, and a block or two down the trail there's a latté shop.
At Buckley Bay, there's a little convenience store at the gas station and a Subway inside.
At Alliford Bay, there are some huckleberry bushes on the south side of the road during Spring and summer.
At the SeaBus terminal at Lonsdale, there are tons of little places in the Lonsdale Quay, and just up the street.
At Waterfront Station SeaBus, there are, once again, tons of places within walking distance, notably a starbucks and Subway in the station.

Comox
There's a bakery less than a km from the ferry terminal, operated on a farm at the corner of Anderton & Elanor. Good eatin, but if you don't trust that sort of thing, Tim Horton's and McDonald's have operations near Quality Foods at the corner of Anderton & Guthrie, about 3-4 km from the terminal.

And you can probably find some mussels hanging off the berth structures there too, if you don't want to bother with the walk.

One to avoid: the little cafe on the water side of the road, right by the Orcas ferry dock. Worst fish and chips I've ever had. Expensive, tiny portion, and deep fried to fossilized crispness. Revolting. That place is called Mamies, and yes, the food isn't very good. However, on summer days, they have an ice cream cart outside which is decent for that type of treat. Outside of Mamies, the Orcas Hotel used to have excellent food, and it may still be really good, but I haven't eaten there in many years, so I couldn't tell you for sure. The hotel restaurant is now called Octavia's Bistro, and they also have The Orcas Hotel Cafe on the west side of the building. I hope the food is still good. I'll have to try it again one of these times. For a short time, the building next to the ferry dock known as Russell's Landing was leased out, or bought, by someone who ran a really nice cafe called Enzo's. They served panini sandwiches, salads, crepes, espresso drinks, and Gelato. They were really good and I was sorry to see them pull out. Enzo's still has their main cafe in Eastsound, but it was nice to have them at the ferry landing for that brief time. Orcas Village Store is the other food option down there, and they have a pretty good deli as well as decent choices for groceries. If I have to be down at the ferry landing for any length of time, I will often just get something at the store. On that note, the owners of the store have been expanding the building. I haven't been to the island in several months, but I imagine the construction is coming along nicely. As far as the other islands go, I'm not sure what Lopez has. There is something, food-wise, at the ferry landing, but I never go to Lopez, so I couldn't tell you what it is. Shaw Island has the Little Portion Store down on the ferry dock. I haven't been there, either, but they must have some kind of food options other than groceries. Friday Harbor is your best bet for food options in the San Juan Islands. Being that the ferry lands right downtown, there are many, many choices within walking distance. A favorite of mine is Front Street Ale House.

A favorite of mine is Front Street Ale House. I'm sorry to have to pass the bad news, but the Front Street Ale House closed "for renovation" late last year; and will not be reopening--at least not under that name. The brewery equipment has all been sold off-island, and the former brewery looks to now be a kayak tour business. The restaurant has been shuttered for a very long time now, with rumors that it will soon reopen with a different name, under new ownership. The former management at the Ale House now own their own restaurant, known as "The Rumor Mill;" It's a half block from the ferry landing on First Street, in what at one time was "The Electric Company." It's a different atmosphere from that at the Ale House, though the food is every bit as good, and there's several good beers to choose from...

Here's my plug for the pub at Descanso Bay. A sunny Saturday afternoon, a pint of Sleeman Honey Brown and one of the best salmon burgers I've ever had. All for under 20 bucks with tax and tip.

I heard from my dad that Bilbos Festivo in Eastsound, one of THE best Mexican restaurants to be found anywhere, and an island institution for as long as I can remember, closed shop this year, too. That one kind of hurts, actually. Bilbos was unique, and I always looked forward to eating there when visiting Orcas.

Does anyone know if the Fulford Inn is still there on Saltspring Island??? I thought I saw online that it was gone but I could be wrong. That one closed down in September 2010. The building is condemned, and new owners had plans to rebuild but issues have risen due to the properties proximity to the ocean and the nearby creek. So the place is up for sale. The liquor store in the building is still open at least! PS: Kahloke, perhaps should we start a similar thread dedicated to places to eat in Washington? Just trying to keep it simple with the initial post which was where I was hoping to store most of the information that everyone suggests. That way in future we don't have to flip through dozens of pages from 3 years of posts to find out where good eats is on Galiano or Orcas.

I was not aware that Bilbo's had folded, but Portofino's Pizza in Eastsound also recently went away. Food options are beginning to get interesting on Orcas.
