Who remembers the escalators on the original 3 C's? Did the Cowichan serve HSB-Langdale in the 90's? If so then yes! If not, then which ship would that have been?

I also remember back in the early 80's seeing an ad for Royal Trust on the back of a local Nanaimo magazine showing one of the C's (Cowichan or Coquitlam), and the caption read, "One of the jumbo double ended ferries owned by Royal Trust in service with B.C. Ferries". I asked my grandfather what that was all about, and he said BCF sold some ships to Royal Trust and leased them back. Anyone else remember this?

It was another bogus privatization exercise, about as effective as Gordon Campbell's quest for 'alternate service providers', which produced nothing.

The Queen of Cowichan seems to be having a bad day.
I saw her coming in to Departure Bay earlier this afternoon (her 2:40 arrival) and idly saw that all looked normal - but then a while later she caught my eye as she went backward away from the dock just before docking. It seemed to be a rather sudden change in direction. She stopped and sat a short distance from the dock for a few minutes then very slowly eased her way in.
I didn't notice her being late to depart until I got a service notice in my email, which reported her holding in dock because of a propulsion issue. The 3:30 sailing is showing as cancelled, but around 4:40 she went out into the Strait just outside Departure Bay, stopped, turned around, and now seems to be slowly heading north in the Strait. @bcferries on Twitter reports that she's doing sea trials.
Hopefully they get her fixed and on her way soon.

The Queen of Cowichan is docked at berth 1 at Departure Bay and is not showing on the schedule until Friday. The Coquitlam was quickly started up to replace the Cowichan yesterday morning because of a mechanical issue.

Don't know if this has been posted, but I noticed the nice little extended balconies over the escape slides on the C's have been blocked off. I took some pix, but can't attach them...files are too big.

Only the Oak Bay/Surrey and Alberni had the sun deck railings expanded over top of the evacuation chutes

Now I am not crazy about the look of the Queen of Oak Bay and Surrey I Think they are a eyesore vs their younger sisters. I do not like the expanded passenger deck it destroys the look of what that class of ship should look like. As a matter of fact I do like the look of all of WSF'S Ships from the Spokane to present. There is just something about the look of a ferry with the pickleforks I Love. However I do like how you can now stand on top of the Evac chutes, It ads a little more on the cool factor to a otherwise boring looking ship.

Yes, the Oak Bay and Surrey are just plain ugly, whereas the Cowichan and Coquitlam are fairly decent looking ships. IMHO, the Alberni WAS the nicest looking of the four, until she was butchered into her current state.

The Queen of Cowichan did something unusual as she left Departure Bay this morning. The lower level doors were closed very late, later than I have ever seen - just before the ferry went out of view for me behind Newcastle Island, so pretty much as they exited the bay. I checked this out with binoculars and could see the crew standing right by the open door, so they seemed to purposely shut the doors as late as possible. I wonder why.

I have notice that Queen of Cowichan and Queen of Coquitlam have been switching in and out service every day. Does anyone know why BC Ferries swapping them every day?

To air out the car deck? Fans not working? Interesting questions. I've been watching the Martha's Vineyard cams for awhile now and see the major ferries there opening their doors at both ends when at the terminals. Both ends are closed upon departure. The ISLAND HOME has forced air ventilation for her car deck. The duct goes up through louvers on the Sun Deck.
