unloading at Heriot Bay Pretend for a moment that the red is real paint. What would you think of that new look, if exterior rails were red? I think I would like it.

I think I know the reason why the Red Mesh has appeared on the outer decks. First take a look at the Railings on the Tachek in this Photo... Deck 5, Sun Deck, Tachek. by CS16 Photography, on Flickr Now look at the same Railings on the Quadra Queen II. Deck 5, Sun Deck, Quadra Queen II. by CS16 Photography, on Flickr As you can see the QQII has the usual White Steel Mesh we see throughout most of the Fleet whereas on the Tachek it seems to have been an afterthought. Usually the only place the mesh isn't used on our vessels in in crew only areas whereas in Passenger Areas it is essential as it can stop objects or small children from falling through the railing onto a lower deck or overboard. Plus I imagine some kids could use the un-meshed railings as a ladder. I imagine passengers might have complained about this and/or an Employee on Route 25 or Route 24 might have written up an A.L.E.R.T. (All Learning Events Reported Today) about this issue and temporary action was taken as we see in Kahloke's Pictures. I'm sure in her next refit the white steel mesh will be attached to the railings.

That's pretty much what I surmised, as well, especially when we saw a crew member carrying those metal mesh panels up to Tachek's sun deck. So, apparently, the installation of those panels was/is going to happen soon.

I can remember being about 4 years old on one of the Burnaby class vessels on route 2. I was wandering around the forward outside deck and came upon the sliding foot passenger railing in the open position, and I'm pretty sure we were underway. All I remember is looking down at the ocean going by and wondering why the railing was like it was. Scary. Maybe it was a dream, I don't know.

Maybe this is linked to the man overboard incident a few weeks ago?

No, no, this was back in 1973-74. A guy we knew did kill himself by jumping off of one of the C-class on route 2 back in the late 80's - a crazed Frenchman from Quadra Island named Pierre.

Meanwhile on the same day, I'm enjoying a few photo sessions of Tachek's sister ship. I'm in the Finnish place of harmony, and soon it will be time for me to go outside again to get another set of pics and video.

I am wracking my brain trying to figure out where on Rebecca Spit you can see an inbound ferry with that kind of background (a close island behind the ship, with light peeking through the trees on the island. Are you zooming in towards Reid Island ?

There's no where else on an inbound trip seen from Rebecca Spit where a close background land has a beach with a view through the trees, and with no cliffs or mossy-rock outcroppings (like Heriot Island, for instance) I'll pay you for your words. Just name the area of land (or small island?) in the background behind the ferry. Thanks.

This is either Heriot Island, or the Quadra Island shore just to the west of Heriot Island. It was taken about 7 minutes before the Tacheck arrived at the Heriot terminal.

Great pics. Tachek looks great with her new bridge, and the coastalized passenger lounge is a huge improvement. I remember when she sailed alongside Quadra Queen 2 on Campbell River - Q. Cove in the 80's, she had a big, ugly, grey divider running down the centre of the upper lounge. Glad they got rid of that!

Those are some serious yachts... Do you pay by the foot for those? Does BCF up their passenger count because they have some extra boats on board? ...I'll show myself out.

Actually, the blue Caddy is 19 1/2 feet long, so she just barely makes it under the 20 foot rule.

Back in April I took a round trip on the Tachek from Quardra Island to Cortes Island and back. I was very excited to ride this route again as I have fond memories riding the Tenaka on this run a few years ago. Here's some pictures: Boarding in Heriot Bay. BC Ferries times the sailings from Campbell River so that you have just enough time to drive across Quarda Island and make the next sailing to Cortes Island. Making the tight turn out of Heriot Bay: The lounge was very quiet on the way over: Arriving at Cortes Island: We had a light load on the cardeck both ways: Looking down at a picklefork: Docking at Quadra Island: Sailing away on another trip Cortes Island:

Here's my video of Tachek on the Quadra-Cortes route, as seen from Taku Resort near Heriot Bay, on Quadra Island. - July 2016.
I like the small ships. Simple effective design for her route.
