I would assume the Victoria was a supplement out of Tsawwassen before its retirement...but otherwise, who cares what the website says. They USED to list the Burnaby as 121 meters long. Was that true...?

I took the Victoria once on a 11:30am departure out of Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay which means I think that time she was based out of Tsawwassen as there was also a 7:30am and 9:30am so that would make the 7:30am out of Tsawwassen and the 9:30am out of SB then 11:30am out of Tsawwassen the one I was on which was the last time I rode her!

Deas Dock 1994 The New West was out of service for a few months in '95 to try and fix the constant vibration. The Esquimalt took her place on Route 30, so the Victoria took the Esquimalt's place for extra sailings on Route 2. Horseshoe Bay Victoria Day 1995 Departure Bay Route 30 Overload September 1995 Remember the days when the Mid-Island needed extra sailings?!!

Alan, if you had a gallery, I think the monthly transfer would be overloaded. And boy do you sure need a gallery. (as in being expressive)

Wow! Beautiful pictures, Alan! Those were the days when she was still in good shape, and had a fresh coat of paint on. The pic of her leaving Departure Bay reminds me of the last time I saw her in 1997 sitting in berth 1 at Departure Bay, with the car deck all sealed up with blue window covers. I was shocked to see her there, cause I only knew her for being the ferry that got rammed by a freightor. Too bad I was like 9, and had no camera.
But yes definitely, it seems like you have some real treasures, and putting them all on to a website for everyone to view would be awesome! ;D

Thanks a lot, Alan. I (and I'm sure others are, too) am starting to feel spoiled by such a steady diet of seemingly unseen great and rare shot. Three Cheers!

Yeah Very Good Photos of the first Modified Tsawwassen/Sidney Spaulding Design. They should of majorly upgraded her like they did to the Saanich. If they had maintained her better she could have been with her sisters longer...and If I'm thinking right they could have been building 4 Super C Classes if she was still with BCF

Thank you all, Geez, I thought you'd all be impressed with the Queen of Victoria at Horseshoe Bay! I'd never seen her up there before 1995!! My friends and family are so sick of seeing my ferry pictures!! (God, not the Victoria AGAIN!!) I think 1997 was the last time she was used, no?

Where is this "Alang" place Is it in Cuba? Alang shipbreaking yard is in India. Try a Google search using "Alang Shipbreaking Yard" and it should give you the results you want. Cheers, Darren

I wonder who could be the first person to guess which ferry is sitting beside the Victoria. There's a huge clue just staring at you in the eye.

My observations:
1) No ventilation window on main deck (Just above the logo) 2) Solarium on upper deck appears to be covered (Which rules out the New West) 3) Was taken in 1994 (Commonwealth Games logo on side)
So, one of the other V's, how about the Esquimalt, after having the ventilation windows covered on the main deck.....
Final answer Regis................

Final answer Regis................ Ding Ding Ding! Darren really knows his stuff, as he just casually points out the factors as to why it's the Queen of Esquimalt. In case anyone didn't know, the Esquimalt has a little bit of an odd ball feature, that her 3 sisters don't have. The one car deck window on the left near the bow is just slightly smaller compared to the rest. You'll seei t as the one on the far left in this photo: photosbychris2006.fotopic.net/p30078970.htmlThat one window is sticking out on the photo Alan posted. Perhaps he has a picture of the Esquimalt sitting beside the Victoria there?

How about a shot at berth 2 in Langdale instead? And, how's this for freaky, I've got a close-up of the windows you are talking about!! Langdale May 2002

Interesting how when they originally lifted it, they didn't modify the bow at the passenger deck level, as the deck overhangs the upper car deck. That must of been fun for the ramp operators to work around.

That's obviously the reason why they cut that little bit off...

Queen of Victoria after lifting, in original pastel blue colour scheme. Scanned from a Kodachrome slide - date 2 July 1983 Wow! What an excellent photo. You know what else is cool? That thick blue stripe just under the passenger deck! I'd always thought the Vic and the Van kept that skiny blue line untill they were repainted into the Expo colours. You learn something new everyday! Here's a postcard of the Vancouver in the paint job she received after her lifting. Looks like they were getting ready to cut the nose off of the upper car deck. Why they chose this photo for a postcard I have no idea! Maybe they thought no one would notice.

Interesting how when they originally lifted it, they didn't modify the bow at the passenger deck level, as the deck overhangs the upper car deck. That must of been fun for the ramp operators to work around. I remember that being one of the first things that caught my eye when I started noticing alterations of the ships. The first pic that I noticed with something that didn't look right was taken from the Bridge of a recently lifted V Class ship, unloading at Tsawwassen, where the bow was still rounded at the main passenger deck. At first I thought that it must have been a single leveled ship, but then noticed that what I thought was the lower vehicle deck was actually the upper one. I'll try to find the pic, I think it might have been in the Bannermans' book. Something else that I noticed in pictures of the Vs from that time (post-lift / pre-Expo) is the angle of the sides of the upper vehicle deck openning at the bow; I'm guessing that they had to cut the sides to be vertical, as their former angle led up and out to the round part of the bow from where they now meet the deck.

From Dolphin magazine, March-April 1984 issue "....In conjunction with this work, the curtain plating at the stern (the hull plating below the galley flats) will also be cropped back a foot, providing additional clearance for vehicles....."
