If this is true, it sucks. I made time to sail the last round trip on Sunday, can't do the same on Friday due to work.
On the logistics side, it makes sense. The same crew that delivers the SoVI tows away the Van, stores has ample time to stock the SoVI, and the only operational anomaly on Sunday is a/. the SoVI ties up in Berth 3 and loads in 1, or 2/. SoBC lands in 2 for 2 sailings.
Having grown up on, and with, the V's, either day will be a hard goodbye.

so your saying - chinook2 - that Friday is the last day ? I will have to see if I can get on it again....I'm too also sad about the end of the era. Good luck old friend (is what I say to the ship) Now I'm singing that song -this one (long may you run) ca.youtube.com/watch?v=bZORK6nI8kg - as I wipe away a tear. It sorta fits, but I think they used the song more for a wonder years episode where the old family car is being towed away and has been replaced. I've never been on the Nanaimo but having seen pics of the Burnaby - and how it's been updated /coastalized - this might be (The Van) the last of the gold old classic V class.

It's a good song. I also listened to that song number of times after the Queen of the North sank and felt pretty sad. I think I have done my last trip on the Vancouver. I aint able to go Friday I wish I could but I have to work and after that will be on the 9pm SOBC Friday night. Was hoping on Sunday to be able to do the Vancouver on 3 of her sailings but I guess that aint gonna happen.

Well, I guess the best thing to do is to check the BCFS departures & arrivals page first thing Sunday morning and see what ferries they have listed on Route 1 for that day. As most of us know, specific ferries for certain sailings are subject to change without notice! It's not looking good for Sunday, as the reservations page is showing the SoVI as the #2 ferry out of Swartz Bay all day. . .definitely not worth taking the chance if you want one final sailing on the last V.

Acording to RBI the Vancouver is listed replacing the SOBC till like mid Feb. If that is true I hope to get on her again.

It's true! The Van is scheduled to replace SoBC commencing Feb 5, in the meantime, CC remains the first boat at SB until that day. Wonder why the delay in deploying the SoVI?

Supposedly, that's the Queen of Vancouver sailing off into the sunset yesterday. I dunno -- I took that pic and zoomed and manipulated, and I thought that I could clearly make out the word Richmond in the photo .... could that have been the Queen of Richmond

Regarding the fire on our QoV, did anyone else notice that it was a BMW that car-b-qued? I wonder which one of the Flensburg Mafia came over and tried to burn our last V to the waterline?! Markus, you know that we can't afford a 4th Coastal right now!!!!

I'm angry at the SOVI for taking the Q-Van's Sunday shift, but I'm pleased with the SOBC for letting the Q-Van have her shifts. Out of the two "Spirits", the SOBC has always been my favourite, and now there is another reason for me to like her

I was on the SOVI's 6pm sailing tonight. Service was pretty slow in the Cafeteria and they were out of a few things I guess if she isent running for the next few days that was why. I few angry people we encountered tonight who werent happy with the service. So I assume it would be the usual Sunday #2 boat crew out of Swartz Bay on the SOVI as the SOVI's crew would be on the Celebration right??
I much like the SOVI better than the SOBC. I was on the SOBC three times this past weekend and everytime she was late. From 40 mins late Friday night to like 20 mins Saturday night on the same sailing. A bit rediculas.

Does anyone know why The Q of Van is taking the Q of NW'S sailings for the next couple of weeks?

Does anyone know why The Q of Van is taking the Q of NW'S sailings for the next couple of weeks? Apparently the QoNWM still has some post 'ancient life upgrade' issues to be dealt with before she can go back into service. It has been about 15 months now since her last revenue sailing. Exactly what the 'issues' are I do not know.

Since we missed the Equinox-on-the-Esquimalt, and it's too early for Solstice-on-the-Saanich, we needed something to celebrate. What about Valentine's on the Vancouver?

Saturday the SoVI was layed up bow in on Berth 3--first time I've seen a Spook in that Berth, an odd site....Anyone know where the Van is?? Tsawwassen or?? Getting prop work?
As recent events have proven, nothing is certain, so it is possible the Van might see a little bit more use after NW gets back, but if relieving the SoBC is her last gig, kind of cool to have her finish the way she started, as primary boat, route 1, Tsawwassen side.

The New West has a blown Head gasket as well as bow thruster issues. One would think that after plowing $50 million into her, she wouldn't have any 'issues'.... Unless they cheaped out and most of the $50 million went to given her a fake, fancy coastal interior to mimic the Coastals, but somehow they couldn't spend a few pennies on, oh say, a head gasket (how much was the price for that cotter pin again?). Actually, i'd be more inclined to think that the bulk of the $50 million dollars went to reconditioning the interior areas of the ship and removing all the asbestos. Mechanically, there shouldn't have been too much to do in that refit, as her lifting and re-engining has taken place much more recently than the other ships, although, who knows what state they let her lapse to.

Well I'm glad the Queen of Vancouver has got a reprieve of at least a couple weeks! I had planned to take my farewell voyage on her last Sunday but that got scrubbed due to the car fire. Next Sunday, I'm there for sure! There's nothing like the smell, sound, feel, etc of an original V class. Thank God all of us here understand...my co-workers sure give me a funny look when I talk like this!

IT's so true. Nothing smells like an old V. It's quite odd actually, you'd think that smell would be more common . Any ideas why the CC continues to be the primary? Does it have to do with her increased fuel efficiency as compared to the SofVI? Kind of blows the Tyee's argument out of the water .

Well, as I prepare to build the Queen of Vancouver tribute video, I've been gathering up every single video clip I have of the Queen of Vancouver. Turns out, most of the clips are horn recordings. So I've decided to compile them altogether, to capture her horn for every single angle you can think of, to form a 1 minute montage of her horn sounding. Some of the WCF members even got to have a chance to pull the horn cord, including myself....twice. Believe it or not, I probably have some more recordings that I forgot to add, but I just thought I'd make it a nice clean 1 minute clip. Here's a tribute to the old girl, marking her 47 years of service that are coming to an end in very shortly. Enjoy. ca.youtube.com/watch?v=i5itF5e-AGE&feature=channel_page

Does it have to do with her increased fuel efficiency as compared to the SofVI? Kind of blows the Tyee's argument out of the water . Do you know for sure that the CC has better fuel efficiency than the Spirits? Remember fuel consumed on the Spirits moves 400 cars and up to 2000 passengers versus 370 cars and 1650 passengers. Are you also suggesting the Tyee's fuel consumption numbers are fiction? I understand that those numbers come from data that BCFS collects, but does not share with their ultimate shareholders - the citizens of BC.

I don't know for sure, but doesn't it have more to do with vessel crewing? CC and SOVI are both based out of Swartz Bay, and Swartz Bay crews have been trained on CC, right? It stands to reason that CC is the SOVI replacement whenever she is out of service, like now, and the #2 boat based out of Tsawwassen would sub-in for SOBC when she is out, which I understand is what QVan is going to do shortly, at least until QNW is up and running.
