Now if only we can get Rouge to go away! I appreciate its existence for low cost travelers, however, as a Victoria-resident I hate that our only jet flights on AC are Rouge.

Booked my tickets for Europe, heading for Copenhagen. One more trip on the Queen of the Skies on a codeshare with Lufthansa! Cannot believe that AC was the cheapest option for my trip.

That should be a nice flight. Lufthansa is one of the few airlines left still flying the 747. Are you on the latest, and largest, variant, the 747-8i? In addition to the 8i, I think they are also flying some of the previous-gen Jumbos, the 747-400. Scandinavia is very high on my bucket list. We had planned to go there in 2021, but then of course COVID happened, and then it turns out some friends of my wife ended up moving to Germany, so our trip changed, and now we are going to Germany and Switzerland this summer instead of Scandinavia. We're doing the Icelandair thing, so that will be on 757's and 767's. We're flying to Frankfurt on the outbound trip, and returning from Amsterdam. Really looking forward to it, and looking forward to seeing your photos from your trip.

When I did our seat selection, it gave me the 400 layout, and Flightaware has been showing it on all of the recent flights to Frankfurt. I almost went with flights from our cruise provider, which would have had me flying Air France on an A350, then an A220 (first time on both) to Copenhagen, but coming home from London non-stop was a crazy price. I have a window seat in the rear of the plane. In 2019, I remember them being quite comfortable and lots of space around it.

This old news I know but this is the first time I am hearing about the Government of Alberta and WestJet Group has partnership to make Calgary International Airport the main hub for international overseas flights for WestJet: www.westjet.com/en-ca/news/2022/historic-partnership-between-the-westjet-group-and-the-governmenI personally think Canadian Federal Government should stop this partnership between the government and WestJet; it’s not really helping any average Canadian because it’s essentially gives Air Canada no competition from Canadian airlines in any other province or even in Edmonton for that matter on international overseas flights.

WestJet has recently painted a Boeing 737 700 into current livery the tail number is C-GWBN. I am posting these photos to show recent livery on 737-700. I like WestJet's livery. It's one of the better ones out there, like Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Air - all very nice designs.

Yeah, the striped "beach towel" look is a bit much - kinda hurts the eyes, though not as bad as Spirit's fluorescent yellow planes, or the neon green uniforms the Seattle Seahawks sometimes use, though I digress. I think Condor's livery would look better with a solid colour and larger logo on the tail, and larger Condor lettering on the fuselage, but that's just my opinion. I would certainly fly them if I ever go back to Germany. Seattle was the North American launch city for their new Airbus A330-900's last year.

We almost flew Condor to Germany on our saga to Northern Europe and Iceland. It was going to be $2,400 CAD each for the lie-flat seats. Getting back to the stripes, it makes their planes look like a flying relief map. I have not experienced Spirit yet. I also have not warmed up to Air Canada's livery with the black mask on the cockpit.

For a few years there, these low-cost carriers really over-saturated the discount travel market. It was never sustainable to have all these carriers (Swoop, Flair, Lynx, Canada Jetlines) all operating alongside each other and the market is now subsequently correcting itself. I don’t expect there will be too much of a market effect here given that Flair mostly operated alongside Lynx on the low-overhead routes to cheaper, outlying airports. It will be interesting to see if Flair goes through with the acquisition of their assets, though this time through bankruptcy auction rather than a merger. Personally I’m more encouraged by Porter’s expansion west and positioning itself as a sustainable third main national carrier. WestJet’s pullback from major eastern destinations means that Air Canada has had the ability to monopolize service to some big markets like Montreal and Halifax, and with Porter now being a serious contender in the west, and sights set on central and Atlantic Canada, that has unlocked some competition finally.

If I understand Swoop was ended due union contract with WestJet Group not due competition and going into bankruptcy. I wonder if Air Canada Rouge will undergo similar fate as Swoop while union demands Air Canada Rouge fleet and staff are integrated into the regular Air Canada fleet. I didn’t even know that there were talks about merger of Flair Airlines and Lynx Airlines. It’s going to be interesting how Canada Jetlines deals with future expansion. I fear that WestJet will be next Canadian airline to merger with Air Canada because I think WestJet focuses on Western Provinces is terrible move nationally airline. I can hope WestJet reevaluates their strategy and go back to Atlantic Canada have three national airline competing for passengers.
