Happy Birthday to the star of Ernie's Hour! Somebody spends too much time watching reruns. I can just imagine what the Circlepac is going to be like with us two. But I got probably the best present for a ferry geek: A copy of Adrian Raeside's “No Sailing Waits” And a couple of train books, which I am sure no one here wants to know about .

And a couple of train books, which I am sure no one here wants to know about . Please please tell. very interested.... Well, they are two rather large, old and heavy volumes "The Time of the Trolley: The Street Railway from Horsecar to Light Rail", and "The Interurban Era" by famed rail author William D. Middleton. They were a bit more expensive than I was hoping for (although that was mainly the international shipping.) Canada and the US don't seem all that friendly when it comes to paying shipping across the border. Anyway, they are part of a three book series detailing the history of Electric Railway operations, primarily in the US. Lots of famous names in railway photography grace the pages. The third book, which I already had, is called "When the Steam Railroads Electrified". If you're interested, "The Interurban Era" is viewable online: archive.org/stream/interurbanera00midd#page/n5/mode/2upAnd, another book by Middleton you might be interested in is "The Bridge at Quebec" : a full account of the long effort to build the Quebec Bridge.

Ernie: Some time back I posted about a DVD the Vancouver Public Library has; a narrated journey on the old interurban from Vancouver all the way out to Chilliwack. Very much worth a look. I don't recall the name, but I imagine a librarian in Chilliwack could find it for you on an inter-system loan.
