Whats with some of the WSF Ferries alot of them seem to look like the Cowichan and Coquitlam in the BCF but with a lower car deck? Did they have the same builders or what? Or was it the same time period of that sort of vessel

I dunno but im guessing it was either the same time or the same builders. but seriously! they look the same type of ships they look like theyhave the same lower car deck ramps on the sides and everything I don't think the passenger decks are the same layout but I can tell the car decks the same type just without the car deck door

I have been on 3 WSF, the Elwha from Sidney to Anacortes, the Chelan from Clinton to Mulketo, however you spell it, and the Kitsap from Fauntleroy to Southworth. I really noticed the car decks on all those ferries are really cramped and it might of just been the days we went but the employees deckhands were really cranky. Actually just the deckhands were. But I have to say the upper decks on those ferries are really roomy. The galley as the americans call it was on the upper passenger deck, this was on the Super Class, Elwha, the lower passenger deck was just all seating. Their ferries are no where near as nice as our ferries. They are all bare, hard floors and no carpet. Actually the nicest WSF that I was on during that trip down there was the Kitsap as she was redone and had a bit more color to her inside than the other ships I went on. She is like one of the nicer ferries out of the Issaqua class just like the Queen of Saanich is the nicer out are V Class.
But I am not sure where they were built. WSF would of been built in Seattle. Are ferries werent built down there so I doubt it would be the same company. Even the Coho was built in Seattle.
The Cowichan and Coquitlam were built in Victoria, actually the Cowichan was, Coquitlam was built in Vancouver, sometime if you look at the names of the ships to see where there built. Alot of the ships with names that are communties and areas on the island were built in Victoria and ones with names of communities on the mainland were built over there. I dont know if that is totall true but sometimes how I look at it.

Actually the city under the name is the city of registration.

all bc ferries are registered in victoria. and i am unsure about wsf but if they are state run they are probably out of olympia.
on the main routes an island named boat is based out of the island terminal and the mainland named boat out of the mainland. examples are the sobc, q of vancouver, and q of new west are tsawwassen based and the sovi, saanich are swartz based with the alberni duke point based

Actually I am pretty sure most of the WSF were built or registered in Seattle as you look under the name they all say Seattle. The Coho even is registered in Seattle. I see the Coho quite frequently. When she goes into refit she goes to Seattle.

Phil Spaulding designed the C-Class as well as the WSF ferries. He also designed the Queen of Sidney and Tsawwassen, as well as the V-Class and the Black Ball ship "Coho"....

The Bc Ferries first 3 Cowichan Class vessles, The Queen of Cowichan Queen of Coquitlam Queen of Alberni Were designed after the mv Walla Walla and Spokane, according to the Ships of BC Book. The Spokane and Walla Walla was built in either 1972 or 1974 I am not excatly sure wich year.

Nope, all the major ferries in the BC Ferries fleet have elevators, along with the Cumberland, Capilano.

i dont know why the V class would need them? dont they board via the passegar deck, and it also has all life saving devices on that deck to? why would they need elevators? and i know the K class doesn't have them. they only have 1 deck

They have them for the disabled.

For people with disabilities (wheelchairs) that would like to go up to the passenger area because the car deck on the V-Class isn't that much fun especially if your on the bottom deck because theres no windows

No. Just why would you need wheelchair access from the car deck? i would just have them use the passengar entrance, and then they would have to meet up with thier car on the otherside.

re last post.
That would be a real pain in the ass. You have vans, etc with persons with wheel chairs and they need a elevator to go from the vehicle deck to the upper decks.
Who the heck would want to bother with getting out of thier vehicle on shore only to use the overhead walkway, especially in the rain, then to repeat the process on the other side. Having a elevator on board the vessle is alot easier.

Maybe the investors of Harbour Links Corp can buy the HL-Kid his very own K-Class ship for Christmas?
OH, and while I'm feeling a bit silly & sarcastic, is there something funny about being "The Man in the Boat" when you're on the "Klitsa" ? Do you wear your pear-necklace when on board?
just wondering what happens on the K-class trips.....
