The route is losing money and the boat is aging

LOL just joking of course. If they were to scrap her they'd be better of using her on other ships (if the steel is proven).

Make school trips $1 or $1.50 per student for School Trips.
You'll see the difference.

This has been pretty much replayed and talked about on a number of different links to this board.
You all know my views and that is keep the route - but change the vessel. But in doing so - you also need to sort out the terminals / dock - as you can only hold 10 - 15 cars so where are you going to park the cars while waiting for the Ferry?
The route could handle around 30 to 50 car ferry / vessel - BUT the car holding problem is still there - that is the key to this route. YES it will make money - but with the right parking / terminal design.

the mill bay run is a good little tourist run and provides good service in the event of a major accident on the malahat( propane truck accident in fall 2000) and when it does snow.

Certainly.
I would like to see a new ferry on this run when the malahat is closed(have them run in tandem).

Why, it is still reliable, It allows the people of the Saanich Peninsula to have easy acces to the rest of the island, have two ships on the run and then there will be only 30 minutes waits for a ferry, 2 or 3 cars had to back-up of the dock.

Harry,
Your missing the main point - Where are you going to park the cars while they wait for the Ferry. Even if you run two vessels on the route - you have this age old problem - there is no "holding" parking - waiting for the cars on either side - Mill Bay / Brentwood Bay.
Moving the route would solve what problem and offer what in return?
Going Mill Bay to Pat Bay - does what ? It only puts more traffic on the Highway 17 - Pat Bay Highway - and there you all ready have to deal with the traffic coming off the main ferry terminals.
There is nothing wrong with the current vessel - per say - except that it is old and the costs of running it are mounting up each year.
Sort out the parking problem and then this route will make money - and yes change - up grade the vessel to something a little younger - wouldn't harm the profit of the route.

Scrapping the Mill Bay 10-15 years down the road is necessary.

exactly, she is reliable enough to be able to keep, I see no reason that M.V Mill bay is to be scrapped.
I would like to see my children see a sight of the 1950's!
I am up at this time because I just watched a scary film called "SuperVolcano".

All mill bay might need is a small stretch or upgrade, there is parking on the Brentwood side, limited though. Maybe the Parking lot could look like the one at M.V Quinsam's dock. There is nothing wrong with the mill bay, when she is refitted, they could put a few portholes in the ferry's lounge. Have a 20 car ferry on the route then there might not be angry customers that missed the ferry due to the ferry being full before they got through the gate, there was 19 cars in line at Brentwood Bay when I there last weekend, those tree had to back-up off the dock and go up the Malahat. I was thinking that a vessel like Quinsam would be nice to see going through the Saanich inlet.
