I am on holidays but when I was working last (Saturday), they were breaking bolts off the 1A clutch. 6 out of 12 were broken. It is now possible some more broke and become unsafe to operated. It is big job to repair this was reason why she was going to be remove for service this week.

Is this work that didn't take place during her recent MLU?
I'm sure it's the safe thing to do. It just seems quite often that whatever can go wrong on a long weekend will go wrong!
I wonder where they will move her? She's at Duke Point right now with the Queen of New Westminster heading there. Can they do the work at Departure Bay?

I might just head out to Duke Point now, seeming I'm just a stones throw away at Yellow Point!

Let's see if BC Ferries acts quick and announces an extra round trip or two for tonight.

As all the times before, all the money was spent up top. This clutch was not overhaul during MLU. She most liking head for Deas were parts and extra help are. Berth 1 at Departure should be free again tonight. It could be possible Coquitlam pick up last round trip tonight as there is a crew being paid until late and she is only schedule until 8:30 pm, therefore can pick up last run but little late. But is better than doing nothing. Then again this requires some thinking on managers part and we all know how well they do.

I kept my word, and raced out to Duke Point. Within 5 minutes of arriving, and taking a few pics of the Alberni, I heard a 'clunk'. Then all of the sudden her engines revved up and the stern propellar started turning slowly, but the bow propellar was still pushing it hard into the dock. Another 5 minutes later, she slowly started to pull out of the dock, with the bow propellar still going still. She ended up just going out into Northumberland Channel and almost into Descano Bay on Gabriola Island. It wasn't long after that, and the New Westminster arrived. I didn't really have the time to hang around any longer, so I left just before cars started to unload on the New West. Unfortunately I didn't bring any of my USB cables for my Digital and Video Cameras to upload, so you all have to wait till I return home on Wednesday or Thursday....Unless I'm able to borrow a USB cable off of one of my friends...

As of 13:52h she's under way at 16.5 knots presumably headed for Deas.

The GPS shows her sailing at 15knts in the middle of Georgia Strait, headed for Tsawwassen (or Deas?). This is as at 2:50pm on Monday. edit: she's now obviously headed towards the Fraser River, which means that either she's headed to Deas, or perhaps Mr. FiveTwo has purchased her to add to his collection of ships tied up near Mission.... ;D

What a day, what a sight on the vessel tracking... I hadn't been around to witness most of this and would be rushing out to a Deas vantage point now if I had a car, but it's still interesting to watch from afar through the convenience of bcferries.com

Kudos to BCFS for the prominent placement of the Alberni-out service notice, smack in the middle of the home-page of their webpage.....including use of red-background, and large upper-case font.
I think that's good communication.

Here is where credit is not due. They are not providing any extra sailings on Route 2 tonight and that means all overheights are stuck unless they try and catch one of the late sailings out of Swartz Bay.

The Queen of Coquitlam will be doing another round trip leaving Dep. Bay at 2050h and 2250h from HSB! Hopefully, the Cowichan will do another trip too.

And there is a 3 sail wait right now out of Departure Bay! Why arent they bringing the Esquimalt over from Langdale for Tuesday??? Route 3 will just have to do with the Surrey on Tuesday!

Probably a crewing issue, I would guess. Why else wouldn't they?

Although I can't agree with being skeptical when needing to deal camly and logically with a bad situation that's been handed to both us and the company like some can seem to be more often than not, I do realize that if this sends trucks back north, more damage is done to things like the wallets of the truck drivers and their families, the infrastructure that they have to pass over yet again northbound and the congestion that implies .

I saw firsthand the backup out of Departure Bay this afternoon. Must have been close to a 3 sailing wait with two lanes of traffic backed up almost to Terminal Ave. The Queen of Oak Bay 5:10PM was packed. I noticed that when we arrived at Horseshoe Bay, Berth 2 wasn't being used for some reason - and now there is a service notice noting that. We had to wait for the Coquitlam to leave Horseshoe Bay before docking in Berth 3.

The Queen of Alberni was scheduled to be out of service starting on the 8th for about a week. In order to fix the clutch. The Tsawwassen was going to take her place for the week. I saw Ms. Marshall on TV tonight and she said that they did not want to do any more damage to the clutch on the Alberni and they decided to pull her from service immediately.

The Tsawwassen was going to take her place for the week. I think that we can all confidently conclude that Shipdaugherwife meant to say "Esquimalt", but said "Tsawwassen" by mistake. (breathe deeply, fellow extreme-precision-practitioners..... DNelson, we have a support-group standing-by for you...)

Damnation -- I've filled up the voicemail already on the one admin number I know has voicemail. How bloody stupid do you have to be to be BCFS management? Crafty and savvily stupid, running by a budget that has been the resonsibility of the province historically and no longer has that kind of oversight; the irony of this being in that the party in power actually profited at the polls enough to carry their mandate through today.
