Well it seems BC Ferries has made it official and the new Intermediate Vessel has been finalized. From the image, it's "Cumberland Class II"

look closley, gallery decks, and a cumbie top, looks like the cumbie and the skeena, got together shared a glass of wine, and this was the result 9 months later

I wouldn't mind having a ferry like that, it looks quite cool actually!

Have they decided on a name yet? That doesn't look too bad, although I thought it would be larger than that. Is that BCFerries's image or your own image Klatawa Teen?

Yes they have decided to name it the "Coastal Constipation". I wonder if they are going to have a contest for naming it?

They had better give some respect for the old ways of naming the ships and name it something close to Queen of or Queen trailling the name. That Digital Picture Looks Freakin Sweet

They Mentioned the Ferry on the News a a short while after this post was made. look closley, gallery decks, and a cumbie top, looks like the cumbie and the skeena, got together shared a glass of wine, and this was the result 9 months later LOL. Thats the rough idea of combning Ferries sort of looks like the Powell River Queen too. or the Cumbie or PRQ on Steroids

I bet they'll go with the small-town theme and call it "Queen of Chemainus".

Beyond using RAD units simillar to their other ships, this does nothing to standardize the fleet. This ship will be unique and no parts will interchange with anything else. Seems like a waste of money to me unless they plan on building more of these boats. Maybe to replace the PRQ class? And what boat could they use to replace her during refit or breakdowns?

Queen of Chilliwack, she will most likely be the only choice right now for a auxilliary vessel for that route. (The new Intermediate vessel is obviously the replacement for the Queen of Tsawwassen)

it looks liek they will be standzing, this is a similar vessel to the cumberlans class, so they will have parts interchangible

The newspaper article regarding this new ship in Friday's Province clearly states she is being built to replace the Queen of Tsawwassen and will go into service on the Earls Cove to Saltery Bay run.
I'm curious about the relief work the Tsawwassen did on the other runs as well. What ship will replace the Nanny and Burnaby when they go in for their refits? Any thoughts?

I guess BC Ferries is Sunk on replacements for those routes. What will they do? Is the Chilliwack even able to do those routes?? I think she has to stay where she is till the replacement for the Queen of the North is ready

On the day of the announcement, David Hahn mentioned something about the ferry possibly being put on the Bowen Island route, if Bowen Island dealt with some issues on their end. Probably about expanding their holding area or something. That's what it sounded like to me, anyways. There really isn't room on that end of the route for any more traffic.
I also think they should be building 2 or 3 of these. Not all at once, but one at a time over the next 6 years or so. Keep some jobs going for a while, anyways.

It's either Bowen Island finds a place for a new Ferry Terminal or they put two vessels on the route (Edit)Cause Snug Cove is literally...Snug

im confused that bowen would get ANOTHER ferry, they like the ferry they have, and i dont think they need another ferry that will have to go through its own "Growing Pains"

Don't know about that Bowen Island option- the press release said the new vessel would sail "initially" on the Earls Cove-Saltery Bay route, whatever that means.
There have been plans to construct a large new marshalling yard behind the old General Store in Snug Cove (for those familiar with Bowen), but with islanders' inability to agree on virtually any new development (witness their current lack of a gas station, and an absurdly small gocery store), it probably won't happen. The Queen of Capilano frequently overloads with commuter and weekend traffic, so a larger ferry certainly would be useful, if they had the room for the vehicle line ups.

I thought the plan was to pop a few of these out once the first one is up and running? I also realize BCFS has almost no capital.
Bowen has been complaining for this vessel since the minute it was announced there may be a new intermediate ferry coming.
Klatawa Teen, it would seem Bowen residents are currently finding themselves with a very overloaded Queen of Capilano, I assume this vessel will be larger.
