Ferry schedule factoid.... In the summer of 1966, Queen of The Islands only took you from Tsawwassen to Galiano or Saltspring. If you wanted to go to Mayne, you took one of two regular Route 1 sailings that called in at Village Bay on the way to Swartz Bay, and if you were headed to Pender, another two Route 1 sailings called in at Otter Bay on their way across. Same thing going back to Tsawwassen. Must have made the two hour turnaround on Route 1 exceedingly tight.

...which explains why Berth 1 at Mayne is so big.

Even in the early seventies the boats going on the Swartz Bay-Tsawwassen run would stop at those islands. Any time I was on one of the boats that stopped it would seem like forever, but it was about a 20 minute delay.

I was just looking at the summer schedules and if we were to make this get together on Galiano on a Friday or Saturday during the summer we could then all take the Bowen Queen at 4:55pm back to Tsawwassen which would be kinda cool. What do ya think???

Well, seeming everybody wants to go on the second busiest route out of Tsawwassen, on a Friday, do we need reservations to walk on? Or are we going to have to arrive 2 hours in advance? Just wondering, because there is usually like 3 sailings out of Tsawwassen for that Route, and generally, they're full on the two busiest days. One of them being Friday...

BC Ferries came up with a new reservation policy involving Cancellations.
New Reservation Cancellation Policy Posted May 02, 2006
Effective June 28, 2006 there will be a new cancellation policy for reservations on the Tsawwassen to Southern Gulf Islands route.
Under the new policy if a reservation is cancelled seven days or less before the date of travel, a cancellation fee of $25.00 will be charged for each direction of travel. If the vehicle fare is less than $25.00, the cancellation fee will be equal to the total of the fare.
As in the past, there will be no penalty for cancelling reservations in advance of the seven day deadline.
The change in policy is to discourage multiple or block bookings of sailings that may not be claimed, and to encourage cancellations in time to allow other customers and tourists to book on this Southern Gulf Island route over the busy summer months.
The new cancellation policy will apply to all reservations made for sailing dates on the Tsawwassen to Southern Gulf Islands route from June 28 onwards irrespective of when the reservation was booked.
Reservations for Southern Gulf Island routes, including cancellations and changes, can be made by calling 1-888-BCFERRY (223-3779) between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. daily.

Hey, that could be fun. I could possibly go, it all depends on my work schedule, and I usually don't know if I'm working until at least 2 days before at the absolute earliest. I actually have to go into Vancouver sometime next week anyway, now that I think of it. Who else wants to go? I know alot of you wanted to go out and tour the Sidney out in Mission. So instead, how about we all meet at Horseshoe Bay next Saturday??

Yeah I was actually thinking Sunday cause that is better for me but that is Mothers Day too so I am not sure how good that would work for any of you?? I could see about Saturday though!
Also the only two sailings that would work for me would be the 2:30pm to Langdale or the 5:30pm to Langdale. Depending if I came over for the day or just walked on at DB and come over to HSB do the roundtrip then go back.

Hey Scott if your going to go let me know cause we can go over on the same ferry from DB if you were going to go. I had though the 12:30pm but I was also thinking the 10:30 maybe as the 12:30 might not be enough time to catch the 2:30 to Langdale especially if it late leaving Nanaimo.

I'm considering doing this trip too.
the 10:30 am from Dep Bay sounds like a good idea.
I've applied for "spousal permission" for the trip, and that should be approved soon.

No triplicate required, but a security bond needs to be posted.
I'm looking forward to Sunday, should be fun. I'd likely have time to read War&Peace in between sailings.....but seriously it would be good to meet some of you comrades.
