Here's an easy one. (I'm not fully-schooled in stats on ramps north of Comox/PR, though)
Does BCFS own any "inland" (as in not suspended over the water) ramps? If so, how many and where?

I can't visualize what an "inland ramp" would look like. Do you have an example from a southern ferrry terminal, that you could tell me, so that I could imagine & understand?
thanks.

Actually I mean the ramp to the ship, like this: community.webshots.com/photo/548349876/2094791030087036356PTmfeqCan you think of one (or more) that doesn't (/don't) have water below the majority of the ramp(s)? - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - btw, I've modified the original queston in my first post in this thread.

I guess that I should set a time limit on this. I'll reveal the photographic answer on Sunday evening.

Now were making more sense. There isn't really any more inland ramps there would have to be a big drop-off with the water and the land to make it possible like at Deas they can hold the Sprits in there so it has to be quite deep I'd think

Yeah the Saltspring Queen was as deep as they needed in those days so thats how deep it was. Tsawwassen Terminal is the reason the Tunnel was built and Thus the Deas Refit Facility was born

Tsawwassen Terminal is the reason the Tunnel was built Or was it the other way around? W.A.C.(ky) Bennet and his associate "Flyin" Phil Gaglardi were quite ahead of their time when it came to transportation infrastructure.

Deas Tunnel was there years before Tsawwassen terminal was built.

Did you guys find out that the George Massey (Deas) Tunnel is to be increased in capacity from 4 lanes to 6? That means 2 new bores for the tunnel. This is part of the Gateway project I believe.

Hey Grahame, I didn't realize that this was a quiz !
I thought it was just a simple question, where you wanted some discussion, and where you didn't know the answer.
Next time, tell us that it's a "contest" or "quiz".
My answer would have been Balfour & Kootenay Bay locations, for "inland" ramps !

Next time, tell us that it's a "contest" or "quiz". lol. I guess I was trying to downplay the whole "quiz" thing, considering other quizzes in the past haven't gotten the best press here. My answer would have been Balfour & Kootenay Bay locations, for "inland" ramps ! Can you think of any others owned by BCFS? Oh, and actually I was talking about coastal ramps, like all other BCFS ramps from the shore (other than the Kwuna's berths).

Departure Bay's 2 newest berths are pretty much "over land".
Same with Swartz.
My line of thinking on this is terminal berths where there is deep-water right up to the shore......as opposed to where there's a bit of a jetty to get to the berth.
By that thinking, all of HorseShoeBay would also qualify.

ahh, touche

Although I can't think of any berths in coastal BC that have been indented into the wharf as they are at Deas.

i think they have one. Inland. the osprey uses it. only about 6 feet of the ramp and the aprons extend over the water

lol. faster than I expected... but it was pretty obvious. That's why I didn't put a time limit on it, just testing the waters.
Ok, here comes another...
