Well I decided to take a trip on the Oaky today. I took the 12:30 out of Naniamo and got off at Horseshoe Bay for about 25 min snapped some photos and then hopped on the 3:00 Oaky sailing and came back. My first time on the Oaky since her mid life. I love the area over the chutes on the outer deck. That is really neat. Took some photos of it too. I like the seating she has by the gift shop facing outward like what the SOVI has right now by the Chief Stewards office. They got mixed up on the announcements coming into Departure Bay, lol, as they said we are nearing Horseshoe Bay terminal, a few seconds later the announcements stops but they dident correct it. A litte windy coming into Naniamo and saw the Alberni at 4:15 as she was rounding Gabriola for Tsawwasse. Her 3:15 departure was delayed for some reason. hmm what else. I was suprised at the Naniamo end on the Oaky, I think it was the Nanaimo end, you cant go out on deck and go right to the bow of ship. Looks like they inclosed more lounge in that area, as the it looks different from the other lounge at the opposite end. Kinda neat. Overall I really like the Oaky now.
Here is something funny, I saw some graffetti in the washroom at Departure Bay on the back of a washroom stall and what did it say?? Well it said, Where is the Cotter Pin???, lol, thought that was kinda funny!

Why? I don't know why, really those areas are only for where the foot passengers board the vessel from the foot passenger ramp, but it's definitely neat to stand at the Horseshoe Bay end and go right to the bow. I still don't know if I'm going on route 2 tomorrow..I sure hope so though!

So, the justification si that's where the foot passenger ramps are located along the vessel.

The area over the chutes provided some awesome vantage points of the destruction in the marina when we were stranded on her.

Wierd sailing last nite, October 24 While listining to the scanner last nite I was suprised to hear the Queen of Oak Bay making a rather strange sailing to Departure Bay, A sailing that I am unable to explain its purpose. The Queen of Oak Bay checked it at Cape Roger Curtis at 11:31pm and was at Entrance ISland at 12:21 am. She Checked out at Departure Bay at 1:04am. She did not stay in Departure Bay as she is in her normall service today. There is very strange going-ons At BC Ferries

was there a sailing wait after the nine? If they can fill 50% they make enough money to justify a round trip.

The Oak Bay had another Strange sailing last nite, Now this is 2 in a row. She was at Roger Curtis at 11:35pm and checked out at Departure Bay around 1 am.
Now I am sure its not just a Extra Sailing. I recognize the voice of the captain and I can tell you its a Horseshoe Bay Based crew.
Are they doing any work to the Horseshoe Bay Berths? This would explain the tie up at Departure Bay, but even if this is the case why not just sail to Langdale as it is closer.

It was the Oak Bay. As I mentioned on the yahoo site the Queen of Surrey re-positioned from Langdale Last nite and when I went to bed around 1:15am this morning the Queen of Surrey was waiting for the ALberni to depart Duke Point. You had both the Queen of Oak Bay and Queen of Surrey crossing the straight between 11:30 and 1am last nite.

I doubt it was training, Why would they tie up and check out at Departure Bay? I will monitor Victoria Traffic tonite to see if there is a 3rd nite.

The real question:
Why do you have the luxury of staying up to 1:15 am on a Tuesday night ?
I presume you're not getting up at 7:00am for work or school?

Currently I am unemployed, so I can stay up as long as I want to. And Sleep in too! ;D
I shut off the scanner at midnite last nite as I did not hear the Oak Bay. As a matter of fact I heard a deepsea ship at Entrance ISland heading to Vancouver and Victoria traffic did not mention the Queen of Oak Bay so I went to bed.

The emergency evac chutes are having their maint and upgrades done in Departure Bay. Apparently the contract has all ships with the chute system go to Departure Bay as that is where their maint. facilities are.

Oh ok that makes sense. Those facilities were probably built there for the Fastcats originally as they were the first to have those chutes, unless the Spirits have them as well...
