I think it is nice. Tuesday morning (20 Sep), we were outbound on Capilano's car deck as Oak Bay turned into HB. Fall morning light is so good. Our wall of mountains never look better than with a white ferry in the foreground. Yeah, I like it. Howe Sound, I love you.

Neat thing about the Oak Bay is that on the top outside deck, you can walk over-top of the evacuation stations which stick out over the water.

It's because of Ventalation they should do what they did to the Coquitlam's car deck windows and put more fans on the Car Deck so they can breathe in there

It's a good photo, but to make it a stunning photo include more water so you have the reflection of the ferry and less dead space (aka the sky). Take it as a wider angle then crop down to get the perfect framing of the ferry and mountains.

I already do. I am picky about my own. I was talking as that photo being able to sell, being displayed in an art exhibit etc. Giving Brian criticize it helps him improve as it does for all of us.

Beautiful summer picture. For those old timers out there, have you ever noticed the gangway kept on the funnel decks of the C class? Any guess's wht they are there......

How come oaky's windows aren't semetrical anymore? It just looks messed. They take the windows out, or cover them up I should say for the evacuation system they have setup there. On the left side of the picture -#1 end port side- you see an orange zodiac on the upper outer deck. When they lower it if theres a fire, they want to lower it without being torched by the fire. So they put fire resistant windows on the passenger deck below the section the zodiac would go by as it would be lowered. Then there's the Marin Ark Chute Evacuation System where they also obviously don't want to have it catch on fire while you're depending on it to give you a safe landing when you land into the large life raft. They also covered more windows on the bottom car deck so it wouldn't catch on fire while the raft was sitting against the ferry filling up with people. It's nothing really any different than the system they had before with the davit system. If you look at an old photo of any of the three upgraded C-Class, or even just look at what the Surrey will look like for another 2 months, you'll notice they never made a straight line of windows all along the car deck. Instead they did it the semetrical way we call it here. There were fire windows all along on the Oak Bay, Cowichan, and Coquitlam. They were just a tiny bit different from the rest of the windows. On the Cowichan and Coquitlam they have the two bars going down the window, and in between the two panes of glass would be a metal screen net to hold the glass so it wouldn't shatter when a fire happens right beside it. But they would lower the raft along the section where there was no window. Here is a picture of the Coquitlam just four months before it went into midlife refit as I went passed it on the Oak Bay on the way to Portland Oregon... The same way with the windows is the same with the Alberni... On Oak Bay and Surrey they didn't use that type of window, they just put another window in front of a regular window. Whether or not that would really work that well, I don't know. Here's an example on the Surrey, PR Kids photo.... Then they would also lower the raft along the sections where there was no windows along the cardeck. I'm not ranting or anything, nobody take offence to this post, just explaining what I've been observing and answering the question as to why. If I'm wrong anywhere in what I've said about the evacuation system, please correct me....phew it's been a while since I've done a large post.

I think you're correct. It's weird though, if you look at the original picture in this thread, you can see that there are some open windows on the car deck right beside where the chute would come out... but then on the other side there's a large space with no windows. I wonder why they're not centered?
I understand that they're going by safety regulations.. but as a ferry traveller, I miss having the chance of getting parked right beside one of those car deck windows on a summer day and just rolling down the windows of the car for the whole trip across! There's still a chance, just less of one now.
