just like the Trains do too. Not true. While you are correct that a diesel engine drives a generator that powers the traction motors. The engine will only operate at full speed if the engineer puts the throttle in notch 8(wide open). The throttle has 8 settings, called notches. As the engineer increases the throttle the engine's RPM increases, the amount of electricity to the traction motors increases as well. The engine goes to idle when the throttle is returned to nortch 1 or idle. I'm assuming the new ferries will be the same.
