Me playing a joke..! Ha..! On MSN Messenger you will sometimes get file transfers or files like that often, and the best thing to do is NOT TO OPEN THEM... If the sender did not say they were going to send you a file, or if the file has a suspicious name, as I always tell customers,"If you are not 100% sure what it is, don't open it..!"...

This is from my work site about this issue, and variants: - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Reactive Talking Points: · The anti-virus community is currently tracking various worms that spread through MSN Messenger, including the "Kelvir" worm. These worms require significant user interaction to spread. Most VIA partners have rated these threats as “low” and we have not seen any widespread customer impact. · These worms do not exploit security vulnerabilities, but rather rely on the user to accept a file, then run it. The worm then sends itself to all the contacts in a user’s MSN Messenger contact list. · Microsoft recommends that customers exercise extreme caution when accepting file transfers from both known and unknown sources. For more information about protecting your computer while using MSN Messenger, please go to messenger.msn.com/Help/. · Microsoft will continue to work with Virus Information Alliance (VIA) members to monitor these threats and provide customers with timely prescriptive information. · More information about “Kelvir” and other similar threats is available from VIA members: · Symantec: securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.kelvir.b.html· McAfee: vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_132208.htm· Sophos: www.sophos.com/virusinfo/analyses/w32kelvirb.html· Customers who believe they have been attacked should contact their local FBI office or post their complaint on www.ifccfbi.gov. Customers outside the U.S. should contact the national law enforcement agency in their country. · For more information about staying safe on the Internet, customers can visit www.microsoft.com/security. Also, as an FYI, the following text is permanently placed on the site called: messenger.msn.com/help and is something you can always direct customers to for guidance on how to protect themselves: Security Security and viruses: How MSN Messenger helps you protect your computer Tip: To help protect your computer from viruses and worms, do not open any files that you receive via MSN Messenger unless you can verify that the sender intended to send you the file. You can also set up your virus scanning software to scan the files that people send you in MSN Messenger. To do this: 1. In the main Messenger window, click Options on the Tools menu. 2. Click the Messages tab. 3. Under File Transfer, click the Scan for viruses using check box. 4. Click Browse, and then select your virus scanning software. For more information about setting up your virus scanning software, read the manufacturer's instructions. You should also make sure your virus scanning software is up-to-date (go to the company's Web site or call them to get more information). Other helpful tips: · Many viruses are designed to be sent via your Messenger contacts without their knowledge. Before accepting or opening an attached file, always check with the contact first to see if they intended to send the attachment to you. · If you are ever unsure about an attachment, do not open it. Delete the file immediately. Be cautious about opening messages from people you do not know. Remember that in MSN Messenger you decide who is on your contacts list and who you want to receive messages from.

McAfee Stinger is a tool that is normally recommended to use, and it will not affect your computer if you already have an anti-virus... If you are able to get your affected computer online go to: vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/If you are not able to go online, you can download this tool on another computer, and save it to a CD or Floppy, and run it on the affected computer...

No Problem, Doug ... Just don't ever trust those stupid file transfers in MSN Messenger unless you know what they are, and who has sent them... Anyhow, fixed two computers tonight using MSN Messenger, and it is late so I am off to bed...

Don't forget to reinstall Norton AntiVirus, the best way to get rid of a virus is to restart your PC, then on startup press F8 then you select safe mode, then no viruses like that can run, so you can delete them. THen restart your computer normaly, there you are! Fixed. In under 30mins ;D

Harry, we only removed the Firewall as it was expired, and holding its settings in the computers winsock files... All computers these days need to have an Anti-Virus otherwise you are taking a big risk while online. And yes, running your computer in safe mode normally does not allow the viruses to run, allowing for easier removal...

I said when it's possible to merge into vbulletin (which is unlikely though) so that we have more control and a more rebust community (as in hacks and addons) and build the ultimate ferry site.

I am with you, Doug. Proboards has much more functionality, and is more user friendly...

yeah, I agree with you both. You can also do way more to personalize as well. I've seen some really nice looking proboards forums. Take a look at the featured ones at www.proboards.com

Why is it easier to use? You haven't then really played with VB. I love the AJAX system. Now you can do quick Edits and other sweet things (Moderation).

yeah, I agree with Dan. vBulletin does suck compared to proboards. It's more user friendly for both staff and for members.

The new AJAX system will make it nice for users. Like your quick post showing up instantly. Being able to hit the edit button and the edit area is right within the post. Also WYSIWYG editor that allow you to format your posts visually without needing to use any code. I hate ProBoards it sucks. The usercp features are bad, hard to read icons, changing pages, not knowing what page your on etc.

Your forum is WAY too hard to get into Mac...I tried but no success so I say to hell with it. You need to let guests post....

How is it hard to get into? Just register, verify your e-mail address (as needed as well on here) then your logged in and post away. I have already had spam from one user today who is permanently banned so Guest posting would make things allot worse.
