i agree with victor and quinsam. keep the mill bay, theres nothing wrong with it, it does its job, it rarely breaks down, its a nice little ship. the only bad thing about it is that when ever it does break down the parts are usually hard to find. its still a great little boat that can stay in service plentty more years. take a look at the langdale queen it was in service for almost 75 years and its still in service but as a barge. any ship can last that long, so you cant tell me a 50 year old vessel thats still in good shape is ready to be retired or scraped, she's good for at least 15 more years. KEEP THE MILL BAY IN SERVICE!

Let's tell BCF in two weeks what vote wins, so as to persuade them to keep the Mill bay running, it just needs a litle more car capacity, or just leave it alone. I am starting the Mill bay ferry model next week. If we can persuade them about the mill bay, I have plenty of time to get the money to buy it. Use it as a house boat, and raise the side walls by a bit so the thing will not get swapmed, it would be nice to be on the Spirit of Vancouver Island and you see the Mill bay ferry down there below being sailed by me!But it will be called Elizabeth, then I can get more vessels and run a ferry service between the Southern Gulf Islands using some newer types of Vessels and the old Quinsam and Mill bay, and other BCF vessels

Quite the imagination.... I went with get rid of the route and vessel. They might not scrap it right away but at least sell it...I know Fenklebaum doesn't like to hear this but the route doesn't make profit. When it doesn't make profit it's only ruining other routes. Basically, it can't pay for itself is what I'm saying. It requires money earned from the profitable routes which could be used well somewhere else...no point in persuading...they won't listen. And please, STOP making polls. There's ENOUGH!

As I, Victor and Shane have said, the ferry is doing ok and is fair enough condition, she rarely breaks down and is an interesting little vessel, I am now King Of the Polls, I do what I want to do with Polls Doug!

Keep it, it's in fairly good condition and is a good vessel to keep in the fleet Expensive maybe, but an interesting vessel.

Bloody Hell Harry - give the polls a rest please - or your going to kill a good idea.
As for the Mill Bay - Harry - I have just counted - boring as Hell - but there is around 2,000 post on this subject - which has been - well and truly done to death - pls move on to something else.
Do you want people to leave this forum because we keep on bringing up boring stuff been done over & over ?
We should be talking - debating new things for the ferry service - or old sea tales about what it was like in the past. Subjects that affect everyone - like Fuel surcharges - no one seems that bit interested in - lack of service - over charging - old vessels - terminals that need to be updated / repaired ect.... an aging pop in BC and more so on the Island - what's the Ferry service got to offer them?

The Mill Bay route is a money loser. When I went on the burn the people said"Comox-Powell River route is going first then milly's route. And At Brentwood Bay terminal There was a notice that said there was going to be a meeting for the route!

Oh, here we go again, Mr. Engineer.
If you're being funny....great.
If you're serious.....than I'm sorry that you work on BCF. I hate those attitudes that I see from workers in various industries. I'm glad I'm not working with you, .....because that would suck.
Again, if you're just yanking my chain....that's fine.
But if you're serious, I'd like to see you start your own business, and deal with banks and unions, and in running your operations too. I'd like to see you get financing with that attitude. I'd like to see you deal with any other business types, ie suppliers, marketing, etc with that attitude. I'd like to see just how successful your business could be. You sound like the type of person who makes lawyer's rich. I suspect you'd be a de-taxer too, who would think he could pay no taxes on some constitutional weak-arguement. I suspect that you complain about your city taxes, your ICBC rates, and you don't understand why gas prices are so high. You probably yell and swear at the gas-station attendent re the high price of gas.....and you probably yell at bank-teller's too.
"Your mother was a hampster, and your father smells of elderberries. Now go away, before I am forced to taunt you for a 2nd time...."
....now that's a rousing start to my Sunday morning...
Ok, it's your shot now.....
(ps: Yes, I know the above isn't the most logical and eloquent of arguements......but I wanted the raw passion to show.....hence the rant style. There are many holes to my arguement, big enough to drive a fuel truck through.....but that's ok. Why let good sense get in the way of a good old "us vs. them" type of worker-management debate. Karl Marx must be smiling.)

When is this meeting at Brentwood Bay dock?
A copy of Quinsam would be a good Idea for the Mill bay-Brentwood bay route, but the Mill bay dock should be in the village, not in the forestry 1 mile away, or the route can handle more traffic by Patricia Bay-Mill bay, use the Brentwood Bay dock for Emergency Service only, and the last sailing.
