I think the Quinsam, she is Younger than the Mill Bay and she is rusty! Mill bay isn't, so I vote the Quinsam might fail because of rust, I've heard rust makes metal heavier.

Rust isn't a factor unless its the hull rusting. When you see rust around the car deck doors it's usually from the rain water dripping out and other amounts of water.

Anyway, it might get too heavy because of rust then sink! It's not the deck doors I'm talking about, its the bow of Quinsam.

I'm going with the British Columbia...I think it needs more security onboard. I feel if a ferry was to be bombed, it would be the British Columbia or Vancouver Island. BC Ferries is, apparently, a big target for a bombing. Canada is the last country on the list...and whoever has the list has been known to do what they say they're going to do. Just a couple years ago, Tsawwassen was a target as well...that's still possible.

Rust goes over the top of decaying metal. If you peel it, you might get a bit of steel off with it. That's maybe why they have rust spray to soften it.

No...rust is eating away at the metal. You'd be peeling off what used to be steel. What happens after rust has completed its job? Is it in huge lumps over the steel or has it eaten a hole through the steel? #2 I'd say....

I'd like to add that such things as salt or salt water don't go well together with steel. They eat away at it. Paint just protects it by spraying a layer over it which is oil-based, not steel.

Well, when it's finished, the hole will leak and the M.V quinsam will sink in under 10 minutes because of the size of the ship.

It would have to be in the haul for it to leak.

Um... you missed out the Surrey. Keep in mind that she's cursed, so I'd vote for her because of her curse.

I voted Q Of Chilliwack. Even though she may be the happiest, best-crewed ship in the fleet, Chilliwack's route is the most challenging in the BCF schedule. I hope I lose this lottery.

The Vancouver and Esquimalt operate way less than the Saanich! Has the Esquimalt or Vancouer been out lately?? I cant remember when the last time they were out of service for a few days!

Just a couple years ago, Tsawwassen was a target as well...that's still possible. You know what? I completely agree. I think it's only a matter of time before something like you stated in your post happens. Where else in Canadian transportation is there absolutely NO security, 1000's of people in close proximity with no way of escaping. I really don't understand why BC Ferries doesn't find the need to step-up security. Does it really take something that catastrophic for them to realize that we are not immune to terrorism? Not trying to scare people here, but Al Qaeda named 5 countries that it was going to target. Canada is the only one of the 5 named countries that hasn't yet been attacked, and Al Qaeda seems to always follow through on its promises. Perhaps I should start a seperate thread on ferry security because it is a big issue at least to me and likely some of you.

no way, that would suck and I would pissed if they did that! I agree cruise ships would be another target probably but still they should have better security down there but not close it off to the public cause people enjoy going down there a looking at ships! Might as well close stanley park viewing areas when the cruise ships go by then too! Someone could be at one of those spots waiting to get one of the ships!
