New ariel photos of the Oaky are uploaded and can be found here erriesrielhotos.fotopic.net/c479102_49.htmlTodays photos start with the third photo on the middle row! That is one of the SOVI, Quinsam the rest are of Oaky at Departure Bay and one of the Klitsa! Look at how busy the Klitsa was today! 1 car, wow, it was going to Kuper so I guess not alot of First Nations people where going anywhere today! Looks like the Mill Bay would be good on that route!

There is a cool photo in the Times Colonist for us people who live on the island! It shows the Oaky doing sea trials and two tugs next to her! I can post the photo if anyone is interested! Might be in the Vancouver papers too, I dont know!

It is...lol Well guys, it looks like I'm probably going on a round trip on the Oak Bay tomorrow. It's going to be a long day as I will take the Greyhound down and wait in Horseshoe Bay for 2 hours as that is the latest bus to make the 3:00 sailing. If I do end up going I will be bringing my video camera to record the horns for my site, and then a digital camera to take of the ferries. Then come back on the 5:10 sailing. Lets hope they remembered to put that cotter pin in that throttle nice and tight now!

See if you can get the Quinsam's horn while you are in Nanaimo.

I won't have time to go Downtown. I'm getting off the ferry in Nanaimo and then meeting my friend and going back on the ferry. Sorry man, maybe next time in like 2 weeks.

I wonder what's going on tonight. I thought Oak Bay would do the last sailing like it did when it came back from midlife so it could be positioned in Horseshoe Bay for the morning. So maybe the Coq is gonna be the #1 out of Horseshoe Bay and the Oak Bay to be #2 out of Nanaimo. I sure hope that's not what they do, because I really want to get on her tomorrow!

The Coquitlam might do the first sailing from Horseshoe Bay tommorrow then they might switch to the Oaky for the 8:30am sailing to Horseshoe Bay! Unless these stupid RBI are wrong!

It will be interesting to see what they do by tomorrow. I sure hope they don't rip me off and have the Coq in her spot tomorrow.

Awww no! I was right, they're having Oak Bay do the extra sailings today it looks like. She's lined up to do the 7:45. Looks like a round trip on the Coquitlam instead...whoop...

Ok, phew. Oak Bay and Coquitlam did switch around this morning at Departure Bay as Karl predicted. Is there any specific photos that anyone wants between Squamish-Horseshoe Bay then Horseshoe Bay-Departure Bay and back?

Well I sure had my fill of Oak Bay today! I caught the 11:35 bus to Horseshoe Bay and got into Horsesehoe Bay at 12:30 and watched the Queen of Cowichan leave which was the only ferry on the route that was on time. Then the Surrey came and then the Capilano and then the Surrey left and Coquitlam came in and then Esquimalt came in. The Capilano was having the crew change so it sat there for a while and then left around 2:30 in time for the Oak Bay to come in. Once Oak Bay came in the Coquitlam left and same with the Esquimalt. My oh my, what did they do to Oak Bay! Those fans on the car deck are neat, the blow air out of the car deck and then make ripples on the water below. It was funny to walk by everyone, and they all knew it was the ferry that crashed last week, alot of people seemed unsure about that seeming it was the first day back today after all of that. So we were supposed to leave Horseshoe Bay at 3 and we didn't leave till about 3:45 due to the safetly drills earlier in the day. By about 5:15 we arrive in Departure Bay 5 mins after it was supposed to be leaving, but the Coquitlam was sitting in berth 3 and we had to wait in the bay for a while for it to leave. Unfortunatley my friend got confused and went on the Coquitlam instead of coming back on the Oak Bay with me. I didn't know that until I walked all the way down that long hallway to where you buy your ticket. So I waited and thought, well I better get back on and hope he was on the Coquitlam. So I got a ticket and it said I was supposed to be on the 7:20 ferry! I thought, no way. So I ran down the hallway and the sign was blocking the door to go back upstairs to go on the overhead ramp. So I then went to the bottom car deck and gave the traffic guy my ticket and he didn't seem to care that it was for the 7:20. I thought it was going to be jammed as I was supposed to miss that ferry, but there was way less people on it than when I came over on it. Then we proceded back to Horseshoe Bay and got there at 7:15. The Coquitlam was in berth 2 so we had to go in berth 1 and disembark through the bottom car deck. Sure enough, there was my friend standing on the beach saying "You got on the wrong ferry"...oh well it was fun while it lasted. But the Oak Bay is alot different from the Cow and Coq. They took out the staircases on the Port side of both ends that go to the upper outer deck. They also replaced the screens that go in the railings with a new screen that fit in some case and when they vibrate, it kinda bothers the ear compared to the rattle of the broken welds from the old railings, oh well no biggy. The seats are also a different texture, they're not fabric like the Coq and Cow, they're like plastic or something, it's weird. It looks like liquid would slide right off of those which is good so it doesn't leave nasty stains. They moved the arcade from the #2 end starboard side to the #1 end starboard side and is an actual room on the other side of the play area with the only LCD tv on the boat. Unfortunatly when I reached in my backpack I was carrying to grab the camera to document all of this, all I had was my video camera well I got some new horns to add to my collection on my site. I also might figure out a way to post the video or parts of it anyway on the internet pretty soon. Well, I'm tired from all of the walking I did today on Oak Bay seeming I was on her for basically 3 1/2 hours, and here I go wanting to work on the ferries hopefully when I'm 18.

Well I think I got another one of the Cowichan and Oak Bay, but the Surrey never blew its horn and the Esquimalt blew its horn as I was buying my ticket to get on Oak Bay, and the captain was too fast for me to record it both times. It was weird right when I stopped recording both times, the horn went, on the Capilano that was. Oh and the Coquitlam didn't blow its horn either.

Also too, if you ever go on Oak Bay (I think Karl said he is tomorrow) be sure to stand on the Marin Ark Boxes that stick out on the passenger decks. It is something you can't do on the Cowichan and Coquitlam. But when you stand on the boxes, you can see the whole side of the ferry and almost around the bow or stern depending which side the ferry is going. It's almost like the same view you get when you're walking on the ferry on the overhead walkway except the ferry is moving which makes it so much better. I also noticed that the new doors that they put on it don't close as well in the wind as the original doors. They kept the original doors that are on the starboard front sides of the ferry but made just changed them from twin doors to single doors. But the original doors slam really hard and could probably cut you in half if you got stuck in them..haha not good, but the new doors stay open and you have to force them shut. I know nothing is perfect in this world, but I just thought I should tell you guys that I guess.
