ok, I dont know if this is all true but I heard it from mom who heard it on the news. Apparently a BC Ferries employee on route 2 found a real gun on board either the Cowichan and Coquitlam. I heard the Cowichan but it looks like the Coquitlam was behind schedule by half and hour today so it might of been the Coquitlam. The media thinks this person might of comitted suicide or something. I am just saying what I heard. Not 100% sure what happened.

this a quote from our union web site from a crew member on the Coquitlam:
"No the loaded gun and the OFA call were not related. A lady was having difficulty breathing or something like that and was taken off in an ambulance. The gun was found on the same trip. Then shortly after before we docked, blood and some kind of body tissues were found beside where the gun was first spotted. So the police came on in Nanaimo and were taking samples for evidence etc. Not sure when it happened it could of been last night as no one heard gun shots this morning!

hmm, dident know there was two separate incidents. It would of had to of happened during the operational day. But you think people would of heard gun shots anywhere no matter when it happened, and if people were onboard too it should of been easy to hear. But was it found on the outside decks or inside?? I would think outside right?

most likely outside. Could also be a prank. Most of our incidences like this turn out to be just that. Apparently there was also a medical emergency on board the same sailing, unrelated to the gun.

Quote: John on the Yahoo site wrote this:
The Queen of Coquitlam left about 40 minutes late on her 7pm departure from Horseshoe Bay... I was on it. The captain mentioned a police incident in the morning as the primary reason the boat was late.
At Departure Bay I picked up the Island Tides newspaper. Looks like BC Ferries has given the gulf islanders reason to think that they might lose the cafeteria on the Queen of Nanaimo. To be replaced by vending machines or something. I don't know how much of this is speculation or if it's seriously being considered. Islanders aren't too happy about it though. I wouldn't be either. I've seen a lineup almost the length of the ship waiting to get into the cafeteria, so I don't think it's suffering from lack of business. Anyone else heard about this?
Taking out the Cafeteria on the Nanny, what is hell is that all about??? Why on earth would they plan on doing that?? What they should remove from the Nanny is the snack bar which is never used. If the remove the Cafeteria then use the Snack Bar, but dont take away both. If this all true, I dont know.

That would suck

Keep the Cafeteria on the Nanny! Depending on the Island you're going to, a trip on the nanny can be long and people need something to eat on a long trip, more than just vending machine food. Doing such a thing would be weaksauce!

Me neither but if they there would be complaints

There would! I'd be one of the complainers as well. With no Caf on the Nanny, I can't do my annaual Saltspring trip tradition in August, where I buy a bacon burger, and a coke and I sit down in th same seat on the Port Side by the window.

What if you cant get the same seat all time or they ran out of Bacon Burgers?? lol, like they would run out though. If they want more space get rid of the Snack Bar which is never used.

That'll teach those dictionary whiners, they want the bare-bone service, they get the bar-bone service.

Yeah, people complain about making the ferries all fancy for like a 90 min sailing. Ferries that different people dont take alot of the time. But when it comes to the ferry that they take the most often if they were to do a bare bones service they start complaining about it. Sure they can do it other ships, but not our ship the ones that they use the most for example if you lived on Saltspring and took the Nanny all the time.

Do they ever use the Snack Bar on the Nanny?? They should get rid of the snack bar and keep the Cafeteria!! If they are looking to get rid of something.

Maybe they should put a enclosed children play area there and arcade as well or put a expanded gift shop there

how can they not have room for all of that? It has more square footage for passengers than the Cs with like half the load.

oh i didnt even read the first page. I'd be SHOCKED if they got rid of it... the cafeteria pays for a lot of things, it's one of the few profitable endevours on the ferries. Route 2, w/o the caf, would be in the red I think.
