I have also traveled on the AMHS a couple of times over the years and would recommend it as relatively inexpensive way to see the Inside Passage over its entire length. Most of the AMHS vessels are older character boats of the same vintage as our V class. They are generally better ships for long distance travel then the QPR. They are slow, however, cruising at 16.5 knots which is between the speeds of the Chilliwack and the QPR.
If traveling with a vehicle, especially in high season, they are expensive and reservations need to be made way in advance. Traveling without a car, and in spring or fall will make for an affordable trip. I, for one, would like some day to do the Bellingham to Ketchikan and beyond (or vice versa) trip. You could make a very interesting journey by linking together AMHS routes with BCFS routes, or taking a car and returning home via the Alaska or Cassiar hwys. There are many many possibilities.
BTW, in August of 1985 I traveled on the Malaspina from Prince Rupert to Skagway (a one and a half day trip), after which I spent two weeks hiking and canoeing in Alaska, northwest BC and the Yukon. In 1990 I did a Labour Day weekend trip to Skagway from Prince Rupert.

Is it fond-memories, frequency-of-use, look, design, etc ? Or is it the fact that it's named for BC's largest city ?

Well I think what I like the most abought the Queen of Vancouver is that she is one of the first ferrys built for BCF and like her sister ships have had many changes in her life and is still going strong.

I'd have to say the Spirit class ships. They were brand new when I started at UVic, and I spent many a trip on board them from the mainland to the island. I was even lucky enough to be on board the Spirit of Vancouver Island on her first official day in service.

I agree with you, Biff! It's a beautiful day here on Puget Sound as well. If I wasn't in my office, I'd be aboard either the KALEETAN, WALLA WALLA, TACOMA, WENATCHEE, PUYALLUP, or SPOKANE by now. Great day for a trip across the Sound. My favourites here. By the way, Biff, you haven't spent five minutes in the Penalty Box, I hope! Do you remember the Pacific Coliseum days of the Canucks (when they wore the red, yellow, and black reversed choir robes)? Everytime players drop their gloves, the keyboardist would get excited and played the "Flight of the Bumblebee". Perfect music for a scrap!!!!! ;D ;D ;D

None of the above because my favourite vessel is the Queen of Cowichan. My #2 boat is the Queen of Saanich.

Perfect music for a scrap!!!!! ;D ;D ;D[/color] Lol, I see you're a member of CDC too eh? Yep, they banned me, but surprisingly NOT for anything that at least I would consider controversial, certainly nothing NEAR what I pulled here a couple of years ago, which I have to give full credit to the owners & mods for being very classy in that they never banned me, sure I got flamed for awhile & deservedly so, I would do the same, but I gotta give credit where credit is due & in this age of rapidly fading free speech, it's very refreshing to see people who still believe in freedom of expression. Yeah, I remember those god-awful Oh Henry jerseys they wore at the Colisseeum. Many a time I would watch Harold Snepsts tangle with Grant Mulvey, while the organist furiously played Flight of The Bumble Bee. Ahhh, those were the DAYS! I always thought it would be funny if sometime, they saw 2 guys square-off, that they would play that Star Trek fight music, you know...da,da,daa,daa,daa,daa,daa,da,da,da,da... I'm SURE that's such a recognizable tune, that upon hearing it, EVERYONE - even the PLAYERS would break out in laughter!

Mine is the NorAd, because everyone says she's cursed, and I want to be able to say "I told you so..." on the forum in 3 to 5 years when she's had time to shake down and adapt to her new service role.

Hello
This is my first post. I'm just a simple teenager who LOVES the ferries that serve are coast ;D. For my favorite ferry would have to be the Queen of Coquitlam since it is the ferry named after my home town and also, it was the first BC Ferry to get a refit. Right? Please correct me if I'm wrong. But I've been planning to build a toy ship of the Queen of Coquitlam (and all the other ferries ;D).

This is my first post. I'm just a simple teenager... I've never met a 'simple' teenager in my life. They're among the most maddeningly complicated creatures on the planet, which is why they should all be kept in laboratories, and experimented on (relatively humanely, of course), so we can come to understand our own species better...

I don't appreciate that statement hornby, even if it is satire but it is not very funny. In 20 or 30 years, you'll think it's funny.... ;D Of course, in 30 years, I won't think that jokes about senior-citizens are funny....... E=MC2

My favourite as I have said before was the Queen of the North and probably always will be just because of the memories. First trip and last trip on the inside passage was on her and many in between. I am sure I will enjoy the NorAd as well. I really look forward to the NorEx's arrival though. It has been so long since I have taken the V classes I am sure I couldn't pick one over the other. I also used to love being on the Tswwassen and Sydney because they had the extra room at the bow. You could also lean on the front of the deckhouse and not block any windows because the forward lounge was raised a few steps. I have never been on the Alberni nor the Chilliwack. Been almost two years since a BC Ferries ride - far too long.

Mine still remains the "Queen of Prince Rupert" BTW I like your post Dane about the NorAD being your favourite ferry. I am sure you will be telling everyone I told you so. Of course I have agreed with you all along.
