"Stormaway looks nice, the Aquabusses are cute tiny little boats ..." That's right. Stormaway III is a nice ride. On a pleasant summer day, she can be packed to the gunwales with happy tourists, bicycles, kayaks and (as we saw) a sitar and a bass fiddle. But Stormaway III is a serious BC coastal boat. She is deep and sturdy. Her alloy hull and Cat diesel are not for show. On a summer-like October day, I chatted with her skipper at Langdale while folks were boarding. "Nice job", I said. "It must be a treat, running around Howe Sound." -Oh yeah- he replied. -Come for a ride in February at 6 am, before you quit your day job- Stormaway III, on that October morning. Smilin' dog and happy Jeannie:

He always looks cute, the 23-lb m*f. I wish I had his hair, his teeth and his confidence. Bo at Whytecliff a few days ago, posing:

If you are saying Elwha is an ugly ferry, you have never seen the Chilliwack, she is ugly, but is a neat ship, with the most topsy turvy design I have ever seen!

Did vote Washington State Ferries as they are - other than the Aquabusses etc. real ferries, and WSF is the biggest floating ferry - museum in this world Pay less & enjoy some of the historic vessels.. well other favourites weren´t listed as they are far away from this area so - if I had to pick from THAT area that´s what I´d pick. P. S. - The ELWHA isn´t particularely ugly !! Oh right it´s a bit boxy, just like many other WSF ships - but if I´d have to pick an ugly one - the winner is - BCF´s CHILLIWACK !! - followed by the rest which have their cardeck added later on.. makes them look pretty top-heavy and ugly. Elwha´s looking elegant in comparison to these. Though, whenever I did see the ferries arriving and departing in Seattle, I did wish they´d paint one Red or so - just to make a difference...

chivapcici? Did you not see the Victoria Clipper? That is red, blue and white, in the Union Jack UK flag colours.

I agree the Hyak and Elwha are ugly as most of the the WSF are. The Spokane and Walla are a little better.

Same goes for the Hyak... It is ugly also... Yes they are... ... but the worst is BC Ferries Queen of Chilliwack... It's a giant floating box, I've been on it... Hate to ride it on the Discovery Coast...

It's not the best looking ship but I would like to take a trip on it to see for myself what it is like.

It's not the best looking ship but I would like to take a trip on it to see for myself what it is like. Me too. After all, the 3 'northern' (major) ships are due for retirement (atleast from their routes), as sanctioned by TC, so we've got to see them before the end of the decade (to see them on northern routes, atleast).

I would like to see the Rupert more than the Chilliwack. Perhaps in a couple years.

I agree the Hyak and Elwha are ugly as most of the the WSF are. The Spokane and Walla are a little better. These ferries (Elwha and Hyak) have (ironically) gone through a mid-life upgrade. If you want to ride the Chilliwack, DON'T DO IT ON THE DISCOVERY COAST!!!!!!!!!! The ferry is old and rickety, and I reccomend you only ride it for 50 minutes on route 7, as opposed to two days on route 40.

The Hyak has not gone through a mid life upgrade, she is only getting some refurbished engines to keep going for another 6 years. The Elwha had an overhaul over ten years ago for running on the International Run. However, she did not get a complete interior refit.

Hate to ride it on the Discovery Coast... yes, agree worst is BCF's Chilliwack, followed by the ugly barges Mill Bay and Quinsam. These make any WSF vessel look just beautiful.

How dare you say those 2 are ugly! They are not as ugly as the Chilliwack, no where near as ugly as the Chilliwack!

I gotta agree witth him they are nice ferries. flat but nice. The Mill Bay is okay it's not like one of those wierd looking Washington State Ferries. you know that one that has it's bridge in the middle of the ship
