My colleague Louise took this photo of Kennicott in BC waters, on August 3, 2014.

As of right now (Friday afternoon), Kennicott is southbound, about to enter Queen Charlotte Strait (north of Port Hardy).
She's on her way to Bellingham. This tells me that the bi-weekly Bellingham run has started for the season, for this ship.
....and in another 2.5 months, it will be light enough for me to film her at Campbell River, when she passes by on a Friday night.

She started her bi-weekly Bellingham route on March 7th. I look forward to your films of her at Campbell River in another 2.5 months. I am excited to be riding her in July from Homer to Bellingham.

Lucky you, riding her this year. I hope you have a great time. Cross-Gulf and Inside Passage sounds like a fun combination. For the long-days in 2015, I'm hoping to do a few Campbell River visits to film southbound ferries and cruise ships. There are some nice easy-to-reach public viewing areas along the waterfront, and it's only a 90-minute drive away from my home. Cheers !

6:00pm on May 29, 2015, and Kennicott is southbound, at Kelsey Bay, BC. - this location has a nice mountain backdrop, and gives a close view of the ship when she first appears. Kennicott will do this route fortnightly for the tourist season (which in Alaska is now, as compared to what BC Ferries does....) After turning around at Bellingham, she stops at the following ports northbound: Ketchikan, Juneau, Yakutat, Whittier, Chenega Bay, Kodiak, Homer. - Up at Kodiak Island, she does a couple of days of trips between Homer & Seldovia (on mainland) to Kodiak Island. Then she makes her way down cross-gulf and south in reverse-order to what I've listed above. ....a busy ship.

I heard the mv Kennicott Last night on the scanner heading up from Bellingham to Alaska and decided to check her sched on the AK Ferry site. Apparently she is replacing mv Columbia and will be on the Bellingham run until November 11. On November 11 the mv Malaspina will take over the Bellingham run and the Kennicott will then go into lay-up after making what appears to be a Not in Service run back to Ketchican. All Passengers are to be transferred to Malaspina on November 11. Service notice here: www.dot.state.ak.us/amhs/service_notices.shtml

Not a shot for shipspotters.com, but here is a light-streak that is Kennicott: This is a 46-minute single exposure, taken from Beachcomber beach at Nanoose. Kennicott is streaking from right to left, as she sets course for the shipping lane between Lasquiti Island and Sisters Island. - Mistaken Island is in the foreground. . by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr

A rookie mistake, at your age. Actually, I appreciate you posting this, because it answers a question of mine, sort of. Either today or yesterday, I saw on Marine Traffic that the Kennicott appeared to be heading west between two islands north of Vancouver Island, and I thought she was going to make her way down the west coast. I take it, from your shot, that she always is on the inside of Vancouver Island?

Kennicott always takes the same route as Columbia/Malaspina between Prince Rupert & Bellingham. ie. same route as BC Ferries inside passage, and then down Queen Charlotte, Johnstone and Georgia straits (bypassing dire straits). She does this every two weeks in the summer season, going all the way cross-gulf to Whittier.

Kennicott, the Alaska ferry that also doubles as a disaster-response vessel, is in Bellingham Washington for refit.
Bad timing, because she might be needed regarding the earthquake damage and possible tsunami from this morning's earthquake near Anchorage.

Kennicott, the Alaska ferry that also doubles as a disaster-response vessel, is in Bellingham Washington for refit. Bad timing, because she might be needed regarding the earthquake damage and possible tsunami from this morning's earthquake near Anchorage. First of all, I do hope that our good friends and neighbours in the great state of Alaska weather today's earthquake with as little peril and personal distress as possible. Damage to buildings, roads etc. can be repaired, let's hope no Alaskans require any emergency services. We're not sure yet what caused the shaker in North-Eastern B.C. yesterday but these two events should serve as ANOTHER reminder to us denizens of the B.C. Coast that periodic checks of your 'earth-quake' preparedness kits are up to date. Tomorrow, I'm sorting the 4 back-packs and stored water supply that are part of my kit! I've been putting it off for weeks now. Mother Nature doesn't care about our time-schedules, nor does she care about shaking-up Alaska when its' disaster-response vessel is not an available resource. To echo one of the major 'angsts' raised by 9-11 emergency centre staff: Please DO NOT call 9-11 if you've just been tossed out of your bed!, enquiring: 'Are we having an earthquake??

It's been just a little while since the Kennicott page has seen some updates! This past weekend, I ventured up to Orcas Island with my mom. Before you get too mad that I wasn't following proper stay-at-home orders, I will let it be known that I was being as safe as possible while in the San Juans. I always wore my mask, I socially distanced whenever able, washed hands frequently, and stayed i the car for the duration of the voyage, as much as I was able. Now then, with that disclaimer out of the way, here are two of the best photos I got of the M/V Kennicott passing Lummi Island after departing Bellingham! Nice photo. This time of year is the good time for us "South Coasters" to get good photos of the Alaska ships.

I made a 5-week road trip to and through Alaska back in the summer, which of course included some ferry action. Kennicott is pictured arriving in Whittier on August 5th, after completing a cross-Gulf journey from Juneau. She was polite enough to perform a pirouette around the harbor in order to line up with the berth, allowing all four sides to be photographed. She would unload and load up for a trip around the Kenai Peninsula to Kodiak, departing that evening.
