As that Motor Ship article shows, the original intent was two vessels making three round trips each per hour (8.5 minute crossing with 90 second dwell time to unload/ load passengers. Had they designed the system for the much more leisurely schedule that is actually used, incorporating outdoor seating & viewing perhaps would have been included?

I have actually been on for one of the 8.5 sailings. They did it after the Grey Cup in '94 and I'm sure some other special events. Stop me if you've heard this story about a catamaran in BC before but if memory serves me they didn't do it much ever because of the combination of wake and to load unload in 90 seconds they just opened all the doors and it's a bit crazy inside the boat as you could imagine.

CBC picks up the 40th anniversary story ... Jack is actually John, and the storey fails to mention that it was Dave Barrett's 1970's NDP government that hatched the idea for this service. Read the whole story here ...
How about this SeaBus 40th anniversary as a theme for the August - September flagship?

I cannot find an official release but Damen is building the next SeaBus to enter service in 2019.

How about this SeaBus 40th anniversary as a theme for the August - September flagship? How about a "Passenger-Only" ferries theme, that would include Seabus? I have a feeling that would net more entries. Oh, and happy 40th, Seabus!

I agree that such a theme should cover a wider geographical area ... How about going with older passenger only ferries, say the original SeaBuses plus older (pre year 2000?) vessels in Washington State, and beyond.

Burrard Beaver 2? Just a early guess on the name.

This ferry is to inaugurate 3-vessel service on the SeaBus right?
Burrard Otter II was appropriate as it replaced Burrard Otter (I). Since the new vessel will be used to expand service and not replace Burrard Beaver (which got refurbished recently to continue acting as a spare) then it should get a different name, and not Burrard Beaver II.

Saw it on Friday tied up just east of the "Skybridge" Skytrain Bridge on the Surrey side.

I think they are advertising that SeaBus and SeaBus terminals have Shaw Go Wifi.

That started around 2008 but it has been pretty inconsistent I think, not that I spend too much time around the SeaBus, though. The first ones I remember were Olympic related and on the doors of the original two boats.

We've been over this before. The exposure vs expenditure of a wrap is really not very good in comparison to a bus or even the seabus.

We've been over this before. The exposure vs expenditure of a wrap is really not very good in comparison to a bus or even the seabus. RDN transit in Nanaimo had a bruha with the company that has the contract to put ads on the outside of the buses. RDN does not want adds on the CNG fleet because of the damage it causes to the paint when it's time to remove them. They also indicate that RDN does not get any significant revenue from the ads, especially when they would need to repair the damaged Paint. Newspaper articles on the subject: www.pqbnews.com/news/rdn-wont-allow-advertising-on-transit-buses/www.nanaimobulletin.com/news/regional-district-of-nanaimo-reviews-advertising-on-new-buses/Now magnify this problem to a vessel the size of the Seabus and BC Ferries. Though possible, I don't have BC Ferries will want this.

The articles note that the Nanaimo bus fleet is afflicted with some kind of paint defect. The issues they are experiencing on that fleet is not normal. The RDN experience with this particular fleet does not a provide a corollary to the best business decision for Seabus and BCF. While I have occasionally seen major paint damage from wrap removal, in the vast majority of cases, the wrap works as designed and easily peels off with no issues.

I have seen even the older D40 Flyers with quite a bit of paint damage to them after the add was removed, so it's not just a CNG thing. I'm sure there is the occasional damage. In fact, I noted that in my response. But the reason RDN isn't allowing any further advertising (whether full wraps or just stick on ads) is because of the paint defect on the CNG fleet. That is not normal. What is normal is for the wrap to be applied, and removed, without damage. This occurs on thousands of vehicles across North America on a regular basis. That doesn't mean there aren't exceptions, but those are just that - exceptions. But drawing a conclusion that because RDN has some buses that came from the factory with a paint problem that is preventing any future wraps, therefore BCF and SeaBus won't want wraps due to paint damage is a huge stretch. This is the exception, not the rule.
