Princess Superior is currently tied up at the old CPR berth in Downtown Nanaimo. Also worth noting is that she’s tied up stern-to, which is odd because I didn’t think it was possible to load from the stern on those ships? First time in a while that one of the trailer ferries have used that berth. It still regularly sees rail barges tie up there to load/unload rail freight

I've seen very few photos of Princess Superior in her previous life as Incan Princess, this photo and a few others popped up on my Flickr activity feed just now. Very cool to see! Incan Superior 03 by Dan Mackey, on Flickr Princess Superior is currently tied up at the old CPR berth in Downtown Nanaimo. So, that's it for the long string of oceanic ferry voyages by BC Ferries and Seaspan. Seaspan Transporter arrived at Tilbury yesterday, and presumably Seaspan has renewed their fleet as much as they need to for the time being.

Seaspan Swift @ Swartz Bay - 8 February 2022
It is my understanding that the new Seaspan vessels (Trader & Transporter, lovely names ...) are identical to the Swift & Reliant. If not, in what ways do they differ? Is there any info out there on how Seaspan will be deploying the new vessels? It seems to me that the Swift has been making this morning call at Swartz for a few years now. Maybe one of the new ones will show up instead?

I think the windows on the Trader and Transporter are bigger than on the Swift and Reliant.

Is Princess Superior in service again? You can always check their schedule. www.seaspan.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/SFC-Operating-Schedule-May-30-June-26-2022-V2.pdfNo mention of the ' Superior, but it's interesting to see that the Seaspan Swift is now doing daily sailings from the Surrey terminal, replacing one of the tug/barge combos, and deadheading downriver to Tilbury to do a run from there as well. Five sailings a day to Duke Point Tuesday through Friday, which I believe is up one from previous schedules.

Choppy Seas for Seaspan ... Seaspan Pusher with trailer-loaded barge Fraser Link seen off Gabriola Island shoreline heading into a choppy crossing to the mainland from Duke Point, Nanaimo.
I had to do a little research to see if the barge had a name. The name is certainly not legible on that tattered looking hulk.
For all those wanting BC Ferries to drop its wanna be cruise ship service between the island & the mainland how about a Seaspan sort of 'no frills' tug & barge service. Stay in your car & enjoy the sea spray.

Maybe the state of the barge is reflected in the schedule, which shows Seaspan getting away from the tug/barge combo sailing from their Surrey terminal. The Seaspan Swift now does most of the return trips between Surrey and Duke Point. Princess Superior is back in the sailing schedule, five times a week from Tilbury to Duke Point, up to June 26th. Photo ops from Deas Island park noonish outbound, later evening inbound... consult the schedule.

Carrier Princess at Port Mellon, March 25 2023
Not just Carrier Princess, but the ex- Queen of Tsawwassen across the way. Two vessels bound for the boneyard, on different timeframes. Somewhere back in this thread, there is a photo showing that fifty years after her short lived career as a passenger ferry, the Carrier still had her cafeteria setup. What an interesting sub plot in our ferry history; CP's brief experiment in a passenger service from downtown Vancouver to Swartz Bay, once or twice a day. I wonder how that was supposed to work, in terms of shore staffing and amenities.

Greetings everyone. I thought I’d add a few photographs of Seaspan’s fleet at their Tilbury terminal in 2007. This was back in the day when the ships bore the prominent “Coastal Intermodal” as is clearly evident. You can catch glimpses of the Doris in two of the photographs.

Here’s two more action shots of the Carrier in 2009, and the Superior in 2012. At Tilbury. Attachments:

An update on the Carrier Princess as of yesterday... Thanks for this. It's different and a bit sad to see the Carrier Princess cut-down to a barge deck, but I understand that this has been the fate of many old ships on our coast. I like the glimpse of the Queen of Tsawwassen in the background.
