Thanks to member "Mercury Mill Bay" for pointing me to the air photo archive. Here's a photo from 1982 of the Vancouver waterfront. I can see a Seabus, and also the Doris Yorke, the Princess Patricia, and the Carrier Princess. ....and if I look really closely, I think I see Neil inside a window of one of those office buildings. www.globalairphotos.com/large/BC/Vancouver/Downtown/1982/025/2

When preparing pictures for the Nov.09 flagship nominations, I cropped 15 pics to the banner size. Here are my rejects, after selecting my favourite 3 (actually my choice of 3 was intended to show 3 different ships. It turns out that my best shots were of the Seaspan Doris, but I had to pick just one of her....): ================ Seaspan Greg (ex Greg Yorke) Seaspan Doris (ex Doris Yorke) Carrier Princess: Seaspan Challenger pusher-tug:

Doris always photographs really well. I've found that the others seem to be less photogenic

Regarding Doris: I think he photogenic powers are because of her long hull and the effect of the red & black colours and the port holes. The 2 decks of freight and the elevator help make her an interesting vessel to view. Here's a link to a photo of her, plus Trailer Princess and the POV: farm3.static.flickr.com/2542/3730838822_0ffb847ec7.jpgI'm hoping to find some photos of her in her original Yorke livery, whatever that might look like.

What? Could it be? Did an esteemed member of the mod squad post oversized photos?
No, couldn't be. Wait, I think it is. Wow.
All in fun, of course.

The shame.... ;D

Carrier Princess, arriving at Nanaimo on Oct 10 2009, right on schedule for her 12:30pm berthing. - When first appeared to me from behind Gallows Point on Protection Island, my impression was that she was travelling pretty fast (at least compared to the slower Challenger tug that I saw yesterday). The ex CP-CP can fly...

Well, it never hurts to ask...
I sent an e-mail to Ray Giampa, terminal super for Seaspan Tilbury, asking if there was any chance of having a look around any of their vessels. I mentioned that we were a relatively civilized bunch who had a good reputation from attending tours and events with BC Ferries. He replied that with tightening of security procedures since 9-11, and particularly now with stricter TC regulations and the upcoming Olympics, Seaspan couldn't host tours from the general public. I told him I understood, and thanked him for his reply.
Would have been interesting.

After looking through the same file that I got my first flagship entry from for this month, as well as realizing that the Van Isle Barge Services' schedule now operates after dark, I decided to put together a few of those images to display here, including a couple stitches captured at Seaspan Coastal Intermodal's Tilbury Ferry Terminal. (For largest versions through flickr click 'ALL SIZES' and then the largest size given) And now, Seaspan Coastal Intermodal ( See: www.coastalintermodal.com )... And last but not least, a couple stitches from Tilbury. It's always a pleasant surprise when I realize that I had so long ago setup a series of photos in anticipation of learning how to stitch down the road as I have to a certain degree today through autostitch.net. I find that the first one helps emphasize just how gradual the grade has to be for a rail berth's ramp...

If you can arrange something, let me know. I'm not particular as to the vessel.

Indeed I wrote a blog article concerning rail barge operations, one of six such articles I have written to be found at www.oil-electric.com Apparently the reader didn't read my profile. There is no mention of me having been employed by SeaSpan.

Indeed I wrote a blog article concerning rail barge operations, one of six such articles I have written to be found at www.oil-electric.com Wow, that's fast reaction. Do you (this forum's "reader") monitor this forum regularly, or was it just a fluke that you saw the comment on your blog here? I hope you'll be posting more of your thoughts on this forum. Welcome! =========== Apparently the reader didn't read my profile. There is no mention of me having been employed by SeaSpan. I'm not quite sure what you're getting at there. Presumably by "the reader", you're referring to forum member "Mill Bay", who's post that I've quoted below doesn't suggest that you were employed by SeaSpan. Not sure if anyone has linked to this yet (recently...) but an small little webarticle of someone's personal experiences with Seaspan, including a couple historical photos: ...or are you asserting that you are employed by SeaSpan and that you wish that Mill Bay had mentioned that fact? ;D

You just never know where or when I will show up. I have a latent interest in the BC Ferry System. Our toonerville ferry system (Washington) should be handed over to Foss or Crowley - let someone run boats who know how to run boats. My dad was an assistant engineer on the Hollyburn. Somewhere, there is an engine room log, with the entry "It's a boy!" announcing my arrival ...
