It took just under 3 years to repaint every ship from the Expo scheme into the Wave. The Quinsam was the last to be repainted in early 2006.

Hope this is the right thread for this type of question. What class (or ferry) has your favorite funnel type? Mine would be the classic V-class funnels. Something about them feels nostalgic to me, probably my memories of taking the ferry when I was younger. I also remember the Queen of Tsawwassen's "slanted" funnel, good memories!

I want to try putting together a detailed timeline of BC Ferries History but I noticed the timeline thread has run pretty dry and all the links are dead.
Does anyone have recommended sources to look at to start putting this together, any niche sites or books that dive into the history?

There's a tremendous amount of history on this site, if you take the time. Also, I imagine that you have the Bannerman book that came out in 1985, and the Cadieux/Griffiths book from about '68? Granted, there's never been a definitive, or even fully credible overview of BC Ferries from its inception.

I can update the links this week, I still have it all and it's up to date through 2021. Then I had a baby lol

Does anybody have pictures of the queen of newest engine room? The newest most recently built Queen in the fleet would be the Skeena Queen.

Satirical, gently sarcastic comments don't always register... and that's not necessarily your fault. I'm intrigued by the compression of the written language. New Westminster becomes New West, then perhaps New-West, then perhaps Newwest, and then loses that 2nd (or 1st) "w" to become simply newest. And when the original words become a different word with different meanings, then the transformation process is complete with the newest and latest abbreviation. As for me, I struggle with reading compressed written language, particularly on platforms that encourage the elimination of spaces between characters, such as on Instagram. It's not that I'm annoyed by it, it's simply that I struggle to read it. I find that spaces, commas to separate thoughts, and paragraph breaks (to let me read it a bit at a time) all combine to allow me a chance to comprehend what has been written. Even then, 11 times out of 10, I will comprehend it incorrectly, the first time. And if words have multiple meanings, I will choose the wrong one, 9 times out of 8.

Out of curiosity, what are the odds of being permitted to visit the bridge during an average Victoria-Vancouver sailing (calm water, clear conditions, sunlight, etc..)? I am wondering if anyone here has real experience with how that works? I might be going on a sailing soon so I am not sure if I should bother asking because I wouldn't wanna get my hopes up and then be turned down!

Every time I have requested to visit the bridges on the major routes I have been turned down, but I had much better luck with the smaller ferries.

Perhaps it's just completely random odds on the major routes on if they say yes or no. That's great they let you visit the bridge on the smaller routes though! It's the least they can do for us ferry enthusiasts!

I ask the chief steward as soon as I can in the sailing and say something like "Hey, I'm a bit of a ferry fan and I would love to go on a bridge tour. Is this possible once we get into the green zone?" Unless they say a very definite "no" I'll ask if they can at least call and ask. 25% of the time it works every time. Good luck!

Horseshoe bay Departure bay has 3 vessels running today ss opposed to Route 30, I thought B.C. Ferries had moved the 3rd Vessel to route 30 to reduce traffic congestion at Horseshoe Bay.

Hi Gordon, the Queen of Coquitlam is actually operating on 2 routes this week and only this week. She is based at Departure Bay in Nanaimo and is operating what is known as the "L" run. Departing Nanaimo to Horseshoe Bay. She off loads and loads up Langdale traffic then sails to Langdale, off loads and loads traffic to Horseshoe Bay. Upon unloading at Horseshoe Bay She loads Nanaimo bound traffic and Sails back to Nanaimo. This is normal standard process for operating during the shoulder season.

Its because that 3rd vessel is doing the 'L' route between DPB, HSB & Langdale. The L route is pretty standard during busy periods other than July/August.
