Dane's current sig: I realize that this is not a photo, but where else to comment? I found myself intrigued by this info, and then started examining it closely. Dane, you say there are 38 vessels in the active fleet. The BCFS web page says 36. Which two vessels are not shown on that page? You say 7 vessels in the current fleet were not built in BC. That would include the 4 new FSG boats plus the NorAd, Hound Dog & the Wack. Does the Kuper count as built in BC? You say "12 vessels start with Queen of " - I count 11, with another six vessels having the word Queen somewhere in their names. In other words the word Queen now appears in the names of less than half of the fleet. I assume that Queens of TSW, Van, Saan, Esq & Pr Rupert are no longer included in the tally as we are talking active fleet, right? You say "8 vessels are double ended". I am counting 21, but that includes most of the minor vessels. Please explain how you came up with the number 8. Thanks for giving me data to check out. RE: Queen of, you counted a few days or weeks after I made the sig - we lost one in that period (QPR). I didn't update it as I am not around very frequently anymore. Remaining "Queen of's" are: Queen of Alberni Queen of Burnaby (Royal Victorian/Victoria Lines, Princess Marguerite III/Clipper Navigation) Queen of Capilano Queen of Chilliwack (Bastø I/Bastø-Fosen; Bastø I/Bastø-Fergen; Bastø I/A/S Alpha) Queen of Coquitlam Queen of Cowichan Queen of Cumberland Queen of Nanaimo Queen of New Westminster Queen of Oak Bay Queen of Surrey + QPR = 12 Retired Queens... Queen of Esquimalt Queen of Prince Rupert (Victoria Princess/BC Steamship) Queen of Saanich Queen of Sidney (Sidney/BCF) Queen of Tsawwassen (Tsawwassen/BCF) Queen of the Islands Queen of the North (Queen of Surrey/BCF, Stena Danica/Stena Line) Queen of Vancouver (City of Vancouver/BCF) Queen of Victoria (City of Victoria/BCF) RE: Number of vessels in the fleet, same thing (QPR leaving) + Nicola (more likely) or the Storm (less likely) was included in that, depending on what mood I was in. Active, I define, as being registered with TC for service so the NorEx and QPR overlapped. Double ended was based on a literal double end as defined by BCF at the double ended ferry convention a year and a bit ago. The group itself, of double ended ferry owners, does include centre bridge vessels which includes a substantial chunk of our fleet obviously. With the definition including vessels that are literally equipped with two ends there's the 5 C's and the 3 Coastals. Kuper was built in Canada, legally. wwwapps.tc.gc.ca/saf-sec-sur/4/vrqs-srib/d.aspx?lang=e&vesselid=62095

For August, you get Queen of Nanaimo transiting Active Pass. It seemed like a good summer choice.

I like that one of the Norex funnel - very artistic. For September, I return to the world of Washington State Ferries and give you M/V Chelan cruising in the San Juans, and looking a wee bit better than she does these days. In 2004, when I took this particular photo, Elwha was running the International route, and Chelan was just another one of the domestic summer vessels between Anacortes and the islands.

Mr. Evergreen Fleet has a great photo of the MV Wickersham for his current signature.
What caught my eye, is that it's in the traditional AMHS blue with gold-stripe. Not the white that I've only seen on the 'Wick.
Is it rare to see a picture of the Wickersham in blue & gold? Did AMHS wait until near the end of her tenure to change the paint from white? Or am I mistaken?

This month I honour my 5 years on Ferries of BC/West Coast Ferries by changing my forum username by first, changing my name back to that name and secondly, by changing my sig and avatar to photos of the ferry that gave me my username. This Avatar is a nod to my first regular Ferry photo almost 5 years ago on the Bowen Queen. Hopefully it won't be 5 years until I do the Powell River Queen again...

Well I never actually clearly stated that she was my fave. Though at the time she was in the running. (and is still in my top ten) It in part had to with her unique look compared to her sisters and the fact that she was named after my hometown (...kind of like Brett [a.k.a. Cadmunkey] in a way)
I'll also add that my username could have been different. When joining I was thinking along the lines of Burnaby 16 and Capilano 16 before deciding on the Powell River Queen I think I actually signed up two or three times because I forgot the starter password or something like that.

(The Wickersham was sold in 1974.) I've only ever seen one postcard of her in the blue canoe livery: and that is it. I think she looked particularly sharp in blue.

My new sig pic was doctored using microsoft paint, so it looks kinda unproffesional, but I like it. The photo, of course was not taken near Kopervik, but at the east entry to Active Pass. And, sadly for me, there is no such thing as Tengs ferries.

I've only ever seen one postcard of her in the blue canoe livery: Now compare this with her replacement: See any similarities? Great Sig pic EGfleet! I like the bow stripe detail, but I always thought her stripe down the side looked like an afterthought.

Hard to believe, but summer is over and October is here. It won't be long now until Christmas - again....not ready to think about that one. Anyway, for October, I'm presenting something a little different. It was a year ago that I traveled back to New England, so here's a pic I took of the Boston skyline from the ferry to Salem.

Nice...I've been wanting to do the same for the Philly skyline, but the best vantage point I've seen to take such a photo entails me making illegal stop on a major bridge, dashing over to the bridge edge, and getting back to my car and disappearing before the cops get there... ;D

My October SigPic is the Coastal Renaissance Entering Departure Bay. I took this photo from inside the terminal building and i was pleasantly surprised by the fact that there was no glare on the image from the windows.

My sig schedule is about to get interesting. I'll have a second sig for the remainder of this month. I've got an interesting sig and avatar I'm going to put up around October 31st. I'll keep it a surprise until then. I've wanted to put the Coquitlam in a sig image for awhile but couldn't decide when it would happen. So I've decided to do it now. So here's another Slurrey image taken from the opposite side of the vessel that my last sig was taken on.
