Someone on Youtube has created a new channel called “Steveston Ships”. Here’s a clip of drone footage of Deas

Pretty old & pretty new ...

Why is BC Ferries moving vessels away or not bringing them into Deas Island for maintenance?

Why is BC Ferries moving vessels away or not bringing them into Deas Island for maintenance? To make room for other ships that are incoming for refit projects. (SoVI, Heron, eventually SoBC after Drydocking and likely timed after SoVI departs, PRQ for decomissioning, and Queen of Oak Bay to name a few that should and would normally head there for refit this time of year)

I don't know the exact reasoning for those vessels in particular, but typically there's a period of time to de-store the vessels or waiting for a berth to open up at Deas or the Drydock. Also, as part of the ship's inspection process with Transport Canada, the ship must be crewed to perform full scale drills including the deployment of the marine evacuation system. It's easier (and cheaper) to conduct those drills with the crew being closer to home

Sorry, but Deas Dock shouldn't be confused as Deas Island. Deas Island is located on the other side of the river from Deas Dock. If anything, it's located on Lulu Island.

Deas Dock with Mayne Queen, Bowen Queen, Queen of Burnaby, and Northern Adventure, today. The Burnaby is still blocking the view for the rest of Deas Dock, is it going to be moving anytime soon?

First of all... didn't do it at the time, but I have to thank 'Brandon S.' for the great shot above of six ferries at Deas. Really cool.
Never heard it before, but on my walk at Deas Island Park this afternoon, there was real whistlefest, around 3. Sounded like at least two vessels, with at least ten blasts. I instantly concocted the notion that the poor old Queen of Burnaby was being towed out for her trip to the torches at Ensenada, and her much younger sisters were saying goodbye. But no. Nothing was moving. Guess they were just clearing their throats. I was hoping to see the Northern Sea Wolf, but Queen of Surrey is in the way, even though Marine Traffic doesn't show her being there.

How easy is it to access the area aroundDeas for any photos? I am heading to Richmond for a shoot, and may stop by there for a visit.

The west employee parking lot at Deas Dock has a closer view, but you have to either poke a camera through or over the fence there.

I was surprised to find that the Northern Sea Wolf is so small you can barely see it behind a building and in front of the NorEx. I was hoping for a good view of the contrast between the two, but no.
