But the Tachek is already done replacing the Northern Island Princess and is due to take over for the Quadra Queen 2 on the Cortes run in a few days, if the Nanny is down for an extended period of time you'd have to think it's a possibility

I'm sure they're off to pull whatever they need out of the Burnaby... If they had to I wonder which they could do faster, have the Burnaby up and running or get the Bowen back down.

If BCF wanted to, how fast could the Salish Raven be placed into service? With the primary crew training being done on the Eagle is it possible to use the Raven? She's sitting at Deas at the moment with the Burnaby.
If we have an extended out of service period with the long weekend coming up, it could get ugly fast.

Vessels malfunctioning when BCF is trying to retire a boat. Sounds similar to a problem their southern neighbors know quite well.

This is what concerns me about the summer of 2018 and 2019 when the Spirits return from Poland, BCF should keep the Nanaimo around as a back-up incase they are late returning to their homeland.
This time next year could potentially present problems.

This is what concerns me about the summer of 2018 and 2019 when the Spirits return from Poland, BCF should keep the Nanaimo around as a back-up incase they are late returning to their homeland. This time next year could potentially present problems. Better yet, retain the QUEEN OF BURNABY and fix her up a bit. Reopen the second deck interior spaces and add seats in the second deck midship section, which was enclosed for some purpose for the SEA-VIC run. I think she would seat more people interiorly, than the QUEEN OF NANAIMO, which is essential for the sometimes large passenger loads on the TSA-SWB run. And, restore the bass note on her set of three whistles!

Where is the Nanaimo right now? I see today's sailings were cancelled, but there is as of 815pm today no notice for cancellations tomorrow.

Beside the point though. You're right. The TC certificate you see online on the Vessel registration query, is just strictly her Canadian registration, nothing more. Basically, pay a simple fee and fill out the paperwork, and voila. The certificate that has expired is the Lloyds Classificiation Society cert, aka insurance. Lloyds would have the final say on what would need to be done. That would ultimately start out with a thorough drydocking, or 5 year survey which involves alot of mandatory overhauls, repairs, and possibly modifications. I hate to say it guys, but the Burnaby is most definitely done for good. There's no turning back with her now. The history replay I'm seeing on marine traffic, is that she was out for 3 hours of sea trials out on the strait. They were clearly unsuccessful. Definitely not the best timing, ie: weekend. But quite amazing in the sense that the eagle was online for barely 24 hrs and this suddenly happens

Queen of Nanaimo continues to be out of service tomorrow. As of the time of posting BC Ferries appeared to have sent out a News Release but not updated Service Notices as their website says "cancelled to June 26th" but now CBC is reporting on no sailings tomorrow: www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/latest-queen-of-nanaimo-cancelled-sailings-1.4177657This week coming marks the end of School for essentially everyone and a major uptick in traffic. Interesting to see what the response is if the Nanaimo cannot get into service somewhat immediately. I see the two potentially realistic options as being a revision of the Salish Eagle schedule on Monday - Wednesday to move more traffic, and / or redeployment of the Bowen Queen for a return of 9A service. Rough start to the summer with the Coastal Inspiration being late out of drydock and the Nanaimo being sidelined as soon as the Eagle came online. Hopefully the coming weeks are a lot smoother. I realize practically it is not possible but how awkward is it that the Nanaimo's replacement is sitting here as the Nanaimo itself is out...

They must be praying like hell that they can get her back in service by this weekend (or maybe get the Bowen Queen down here and ready to go). Thursday and Friday of this past weekend were crazy for SWB to SGI and SSI with all the extra thrufares. After her 9pm departure to Salt Spring on Thursday the Skeena Queen had to come back to Swartz and pickup a load of cars and make an extra trip out to the outer Gulf Islands. I can only imagine how much crazier the coming long weekend will be if the Nanny isn't back.

You got to wonder if it's severe enough a problem then what happens if the cost for repair is high with the Raven sitting in BC now - is there a cost that's too high to restore her? Surely that would be a catastrophic situation of sorts - doubt we are there.
