I was searching through some old photos today and found these. Okay so they aren't that old but show some ferries in expo colours. Sorry about the quality my scanner isn't the greatest. The Surrey at Langdale, 2003. The Coquitlam or Cowichan in Howe Sound, 2002. Finally a Fat Cat at Departure Bay, 2000.

Wow, it's not often you see photos of a Pacificat in service. Thanks for that, Canucks.
Ignoring all the other issues they were plagued with, they were certainly good looking ships.

Thanks for the photos! These are awesome. The Surrey at Langdale, 2003. Any idea which month this was taken? 2003 was the year the Queen of Surrey had the fire, and the Oak Bay was on Route 3 for most of the year. The Queen of Surrey was slugged in April, and then had her fire in May. The Queen of Oak Bay was in expo colours right up until the end of fall, seeming they had to postpone her refit so she could replace the Surrey. The Coquitlam or Cowichan in Howe Sound, 2002. This is the Queen of Coquitlam. Just prior to privatization, the Coq was the only one who had funnel pipes sticking out when compared with the Cow. Another dead giveaway was the lack of the Elevator machinery room behind the #1 end bridge. Finally a Fat Cat at Departure Bay, 2000. This is the Pacificat Discovery

I liked this post from earlier ............."I think this is an example of something that will become more common. What used to be a place where a smaller group could get together and "chew the fat" on a range of things with impunity because no one knew about it or paid attention, will now gain attention. The downside of some media attention, more employees of BCFC knowing the forum, and growth, if you like. You could call it growing pains. In other words nothing stays the same in the world.
Part of me is glad the forum is expanding. Part of me is kind of sad. And I am a relative late comer compared to the orginals who founded it.
People with an agenda will check out the forum and search topics and respond in order to further that agenda. I think we will see increased "guest" individuals who will parachute in and make comments they feel will further their case. I hope the forum stays where people can state their opinions and discuss them as ferry enthusiasts, rather than become a venue for a limited point of view.
The problem of and the brilliance of the net, is that people who thought they never had a voice now have a place they can now express their opinions and concerns. I hope this forum doesn't become just a voice of BCFC staff who hate their jobs, or hate BCFC. Or a voice of people of one particular political viewpoint.
I have said it a number of times but I think our moderators do a great job and have helped build a great forum. However, with increased exposure and increased interest in the forum I hope their jobs don't become onerous keeping to the mission of discussing all things ferry for those who have a passion in this area and not becoming hijacked by a narrow point of view or mindset. ".... As a newb here to some degree, I agree with the points about ppl coming on here to simply talk about ferrys et al - and not making this a political forum for those without a voice. That is, if someone who is on here fairly regularly makes a one off political comment that is within reasonableness, I think it's fair. I hope we don't start getting ppl on here who simply want to boost this party/view, or knockdown that party/view. This - I don't believe - is the place for that, again unless it's a one off comment by a regular "real" WCF member!

Looking over all of the interior shots posted by Kahloke, you can only shake your head and ask, what were they thinking?
It looks like they had all the money in the world, and zero taste or common sense.
We might disagree about a lot of things to do with the 'cats, but I can't argue with the assertion that the execution of this project was horribly flawed.

So does anyone know what has happened or will happen to the pacificats? Other than that they were carried to Abu Dhabi.

Found an old disk today with pictures taken with my old film camera and scanned. The rest were taken with a first generation digital camera. [

Thanks! This was taken in February, 2001. Don't know why there were no boats there.

Don't read this first paragraph if you don't like my angry rants, and if you read it anyway, don't comment about it. Thank you Okay, this is ridiculous. Proboards HAS to fix their forum-search tool. It doesn't work. I searched 'Pacificat', and set the time limit to 300 days, and let it give me 100 results. Every single result was from the Queen of Chilliwack thread, and when I counted, only FOUR of the posts even had REFERENCES to the Pacificats. If it doesn't work, why is it here? Stupid search tool.... Rant over. NOW FOR THE ACTUAL CONTENT: ;D I was browsing the BCF website archives and found this neat site: web.archive.org/web/20020929212803/www.pacificat.com/It's a website set up by BCF called Pacificat.com.

There are no boats in that photo because that part of Sewells Marina used to be used exclusively in the summer.

Wednesday greetings! I have just got an updated photo from GoogleEarth of the Pacificats in their new location of Abu Dhabi. This shows you that all three are safely at their new home, with many thanks to the great crews of the Dockwise ships SWIFT and TEAL. We zoom out a bit. We zoom out more to see the city and areas.

Not surprizing that the Cats sit idle, considering the fog still lingering over the economy in the area. A large part of the real estate ventures are moving very slowly. As well a significant portion of the worlds tallest building, the Burj Kalifa, is still empty.
Interesting to note as well the hull outboard of the one Pacificat. I believe that is one of the two navy ships that were to be converted to high speed yachts. Perhaps one is well along the conversion process. It appears the superstructure has been removed.
