I asked this question after perusing the written route description from a non-current bus schedule I had lying around. It most definitely did not mention Powell Street as being part of the eastbound '4 Powell' route. A mistake on their part. However, I should have remembered that the Powell bus certainly goes along Powell between Cordova and Dundas, as I used to take this route often when I was much younger and living in the East End. After all, I remembered enough to recall that in those days, the 11 Stanley Park/12 Powell route was regularly assigned the oldest of the Brill trolleys, the 2000 series, as was the 11 Stanley Park/24 Nanaimo route. I remember how all the windows in those venerable coaches would rattle impressively when the driver got it up to any speed. So... my apologies to anyone who might have pondered on this question. You had me real confused, but I gave up to prevent my brain from overheating

The first pair of MK I cars have been repainted. It's my understanding that only 2 cars are being done at this time, and the rest will be done at OMC II (the former Bombardier plant beside the existing Skytrain yard) CWC_1652 by BusShots, on Flickr

I've been informed that West Vancouver Blue Bus 981, a 1998 NovaBus LFS, has been retired due to major structural issues. This was the only first generation NovaBus LFS to run west of Saskatoon. 981_250-DSC_7364 by BusShots, on Flickr There is a silver lining to this cloud though. West Vancouver will pull 964 from the dead line at Oakridge and bring it back into service. 964 was a part of the 17 1995 D40LFs that where recently replaced by new Xcelsior coaches 964_251-DSC_2162 by BusShots, on Flickr

Will they be acquiring another Xcelsior to replace this bus? At the moment it doesn't sounds like it. The order was for 17 buses with no options. I wouldn't be surprised if WV bought or leased another NovaBus from CMBC. Ideally, it would be awesome if they got another artic or two

I think West Vancouver Blue bus will leased a Nova LFS from CMBC until 2017. Then buy 10 new XD40 or Nova LFS for 981, 964 and 990 to 998.

Three arctics seem to be doing the job fine though. It's very rare to see them all on the road at the same time.

Surrey's first B-Line started service yesterday, this is also the first time articulated buses have run in Surrey (exemptions include some late night runs from downtown, and skytrain shuttles) 8003_96-CWC_3403 by BusShots, on Flickr I'll updated this post later today with a link to the rest of my photos, along with my full day "report". Look what I saw along highway 10 today: I think this is fairly rare to see an Interurban train in todays world of transit. Now we have buses, light rail or heavy rail transit. DSCF6605 by Awesome cheese, on Flickr

Today was the first day of Compass Beta Testing, and yours truly was selected as a tester.
I actually received my card by mail last week and have been using it (and depleting my balance - sorry TransLink), and so my experience has been very good. The tap-in tap-out system, very similar to Seattle's ORCA card, automatically deducts funds at a discounted price. For those who haven't used a smart-card system on transit before, the concept is similar to a Starbucks Card, except for transit.
SkyTrain (Expo, Millennium, and Canada Lines) and SeaBus are equipped with fare-gates, with the exception of Main Street and Metrotown stations, which will have mobile validators for launch time (these two stations are undergoing rebuild within the next five years); West Coast Express stations are equipped with validators; and buses have smaller validators connected to the farebox and driver's display.
Today seemed to be a rough start though - one of my fellow beta testers texted me this morning, saying that the validators on his bus were not operational this morning; and the faregates on the Canada Line, at both Bridgeport and 49th Avenue stations were not recognizing my card on my commute this morning. I also encountered an issue with trying to tap-out at 22nd Street. All of this feedback will be submitted to TransLink for review - and with 10,000 of us, they will be getting a lot of that I'm sure.

I am also Beta Testing...on Monday it worked fine until I took the 236 from Lonsdale Quay to Grouse and back....even though the readers were active, they would not read my card. Tuesday was my first commute to/from work using the card and it worked just fine on the Canada line, but the readers were not active on both West Van buses I caught up and down West Georgia St. Also, on the 410 coming home, the reader at the front was working, but the ones at the rear door were out of service so I couldn't tap out. Today everything was fine, including my one trip on a West Van bus. Obviously there will be teething problems which will hopefully be ironed out. I have used Hong Kong's Octopus Card many times over the years, and the response time when tapping on their buses and mini-buses seems much faster than our Compass Card is on ours. However, the HK MTR (Mass Transit Railway) turnstiles respond just as quickly as ours do on the Canada Line.

I never they increase it; it is now over priced to travel two zone. The compass card is like a credit card but for fare on transit. It seems like everyone is going use fare cards example; Orca (Washington) and Presto for Great Toronto Area, GO Transit, TTC, Hamilton, and Ottawa.

Compass is Vancouver's future smart card, with a tap-in tap-out system, integrated with fare gates at train stations and SeaBus. There is more info about this earlier in the thread. I am a beta tester for the new system, and it will be implemented next year. If you travel on transit in the Metro even on a semi-regular basis, it is definitely recommended to get one when they go on sale.

Discussion and photos for TransLink and it's subsidiaries and services (SkyTrain network, West Coast Express, Buses). BC Transit photos in Vancouver pre-Translink (before 1999) are acceptable in this thread. Please locate photos of the TransLink Road Network in the Roads and Highways section.------------ Note: SeaBus, which is operated by Translink, has its own thread in our "Other BC Ferries" section of the forum (because its a ferry, and we're a ferries forum) SeaBus here

Looks like Surrey and Richmond may get new CNG buses if TransLink decides to do this. I want to show this picture because these buses sometimes do routes that leave Coquitlam but mostly do routes in Coquitlam. P3347 on 143 by Awesome cheese, on Flickr TransLink may decide to buy more hybrid buses in the future like Nova LFS HEV and DE60LFR. This photo is to compared Sound Transit and King Metro DE60LFR with the streamlined look. B8147 by Awesome cheese, on Flickr One day in the near future TransLink wants to use full electric buses that do not need to be connect to wires. Here is a link to show I am not making this up.

AC, before I post anything, I look at what I've written to make sure it reads correctly. It's really a good habit to get into.
"I want to show this picture because these buses are rear to leave Coquitlam" makes no sense.

"I want to show this picture because these buses are rear to leave Coquitlam" makes no sense. I've also realized that more and more of your posts sound right when I read them but the spelling is totally different. For this I think you meant that those buses (C40LFRs) are rare to leave Coquitlam. (they're not common) But instead you wrote they're rear to leave Coquitlam. (ie. Exit at the rear of the bus, the rear of a car)

Sol Duc & Compdude: Sorry guys, but changing 'rear' to rare' still doesn't make the sentence comprehensible. 'Rare to leave Coquitlam' does not tell you whether the bus hardly ever leaves Coquitlam, or is hardly ever seen in Coquitlam.
My original point stands. Read over what you write before you post it. This forum deserves at least that much effort. Period.
