When I was in Cub Scouts we took the dayliner up to Lillooet to a big camp out. In typical BC form we got rained out and had to come home early. Was a deluge not just usual BC drizzle. The Bud cars were the best part. There were three or four cars on that trip.

My train, 568, at Lillooet, ready to head south to Squamish. This was my first trip between Lillooet and Squamish. Left Squamish on train 569 at 19:00 Monday night. Laid over at Lillooet until 13:00 Tuesday and came back on 568. CN runs 2 trains a day both ways between Prince George and Squamish and a daily switch job between Squamish and Vancouver. BC Rail used to run 3 trains a day each way between Vancouver and Prince George, plus the passenger trains. i65.photobucket.com/albums/h237/enr3870/DSCN0245.jpg

Great video BCrailcndr. :)That looks to be a Dash9-44 CW right? What kind of horn was that? It has a nice sound to it.

The horn is an Airchime K5 horn, it's the same type of horn as the ones on the VIA Rail Budd Cars on the dayliner. All BC Rail locomotives and Budd Cars had these horns, although as they wear out CN is replacing them with whatever is available in the shop at the time. A few BCR locomotives are now running around with American horns and sound horrible.

Southend meaning, Vancouver to Lilloett via Sea to sky corridor?
If so, I remember talks a few years ago about this, so that the highway could be widened at Porteau Cove, where the two lane highway runs parallel with the railway for at least a kilometer. The railbed would be then used as another lane or two for the highway.
I hope this isn't true as well, as this would mean the Royal Hudson would be stranded in Squamish, unless the WCRA plans to move it somewhere else ahead of time?

Sorry, I accidentally deleted my first post. But I've heard that it is the Vancouver-Lillooet part of the line.
I deleted my original post, but CN is supposed to shut down the south end of the former BC Rail in 2009. Whether or not it's permanent or temporary, I don't know. CN may leave the rails in as they may reopen the line after the Olympics.

That's a shame that they're going to close it. Where exactly are they planning to close it from. I'm unfamilar with the "dark side" if you could give me a little more info that would be great. Technically CN didn't buy BCR they just leased it for 99 years. That is the answer I got from our friend Mr. Falcon after I wrote a letter to him complaining about the Caribou prospesctor being shut down, and the lease of BCR.

The "dark side" is east of the former BCR/CN interchange in North Vancouver, back to CN out of Thornton(Surrey). CN bought the infrastructure(track, signals, locomotives, etc.) but leased the ROW. There was also a clause in the agreement that CN could remove whatever trackage they wanted after 5 years.

Ok thanks for the update on the contract, I heard about on the news a few years ago so my memory was a little sketchy.

BCRailcndr, I live right beside the ex BC Rail Yard, in Squamish. Are you the one making all the noise with all of the whistle blowing? Are you going to be around at all this Saturday? Maybe I'll go and get a pic of you on the train ;D

Saturday? I'll be on the train from North Vancouver. ...or not. Just got called, I've been bumped back to the North Vancouver spareboard. The regular conductor is back.

They should have double-tracked the rail and restored passenger rail service for the 2010 Olympics and beyond, instead of doing such a big and expensive highway upgrade.
If providing basic passenger rail all the way to Northern BC was such a money loser, they should have just shortened the route to Whistler, where there should be adequate ridership. We could use a skier transport train.

A couple photos from the shop tracks in North Vancouver. And a brand new General Electric ES44DC, 2292, and three of the chairman's cars being washed for publicity photos, to be shot tomorrow under the Lions Gate Bridge.

Any idea as to when this photo op might take place? I'm taking a free day tomorow as it happens and can swing by that area for the chance to get pics, unless of course it's well out of public range deep into CN territory.

Tried out the new Cell phone camera yesterday, shot this going north through West Vancouver for Squamish on the 546. The tracks are starting to look like the E&N Railway tracks in some spots(through West Vancouver, and along the lakes south of Lillooet.) It's sad to see what was once BC Rail's main line, is now some weed-choked branch line.

Yikes!
On first looking at your photo Tyler, I thought that you had been back over to the Island checking out the sorry state of the E&N. Then I read to find out that this is the BC Rail tracks in West Van. CN is really letting this line go to pot.

Then I read to find out that this is the BC Rail tracks in West Van. CN is really letting this line go to pot. It's easy to see, CN doesn't want to run this line. I've heard from reliable sources that CN is either going to be shutting the line down or turning the line from Quenel(sp?) south into a short line. Although, I do remember going through parts of the Fraser Canyon on the Yale Sub that were just as overgrown.

With the amount of trains CN ran on the Squamish Sub yesterday, you'd swear it was still BC Rail running things. About 12 trains on the entire Sub, 3 northbounds out of Squamish(2 571's and a 569), and 4 southbounds(2 568's and 2 570's) out of Lillooet, plus the passenger trains(Whistler Mountaineer, and the Budd Lites), and the 546(Squamish switcher). Made for a busy day on the line. I was on the second southbound, 56851, and got into Squamish just after supper time. Two more southbounds were to follow. My power parked at the Squamish station after we yarded our train. We left it there for the next northbound train.
