Good thinking and well-planned. It's been 24hrs. on and hard and no news that I can find yet. Hopefully she will be back soon. I miss the old girl already. Perhaps they will get Q. of Bby. done and have her replace Q. of Nanaimo as I believe she was due for an annual refit this month anyway.

The Nanaimo is currently being lowered back into the water at the moment

She's sailed out of Burrard Inlet with the assistance of C.H. Cates III. Increasing speed at the time of this post.

Because the Alberni is tied up in Berth 2, New West in Berth 3, SoBC at Berth 4 at Tsawwassen, the Nanaimo is currently at Berth 1. Interesting.

Tonight, The Province, briefly had an article titled, "Damaged Queen of the North ferry now set to sail" (you can still find it on Google, although the link goes to the corrected title) along with a photo of the QUEEN OF THE NORTH. A screenshot was put up on Twitter by @jlewisglobal.

It might be funny if it wasn't perhaps indicative of the atrophy in the journalistic standards at Vancouver's declining daily newspapers... And unfortunately, it spread, showing that no one is proof-reading anymore...they didn't even notice that the ferry was correctly named in the article. Cutting and pasting leads to viral misinformation.

Cutting and pasting leads to viral misinformation. It might even lead one to question whether there were any humans involved in this reproduction of the article at all, or if it was just scooped up by an automated keyword crawler and automatically posted to the online news source.

Neil: It's not just Vancouver; even in Seattle, the media always screws up on reporting ferry-related news. For example, recently KOMO 4 News said that the Hyak's hybridization would involve putting solar panels on top of the ferry. Just a couple days ago, they said that David Moseley was in the Coast Guard when really he's the head of WSF. Saying that the Queen of the North has been repaired and set to sail would make for a good April Fool's joke though.

The general public isn't as concerned about details in ferry stories as fans are, and not as likely to notice errors. North or south of the border, the newspaper industry is in the midst of a contraction that I regard as bordering on tragic. Layoffs and cutbacks are affecting the quality of information and analysis that a free society really needs, and I just don't buy the notion that the blogosphere and outlets like HuffPost or The Tyee can effectively take up the slack... they just don't have the resources, and perhaps not the inclination. Seattle has lost the print edition of the PI, and the Seattle Times is a shadow of its former self... and in Vancouver, we may be looking at the same scenario. In the near future, mistaking the Queen of The North for the Queen of Nanaimo might be the least of our worries.
