BC Ferries service notice for a rudder issue on the Queen of New Westminster:
Looks like they're back to using ferry names on the service notices!
They monitor this site, and they heard you.

Looks to be Salish Heron, specifically. Which is great. And plenty of those are already sold out.

It would be helpful to know why they are doing this. I gather the Spirit of Vancouver Island will be late returning from its annual refit.

I imagine it's fairly cheap given that the Salish vessels have a crew complement well below twenty. This route is the heaviest in the system for foot passengers, so I hope they don't load the vessel to it's full limit of 600... I doubt very much that they actually have seating for that many.

I know that they ran a Salish class boat on route 1 a few months ago. I was really more interested in why they were doing so. It seems that during Spring Break they will be down one Spirit & up one Salish. Why the delayed return of the Spirit?

I was down at the Base yesterday (where the SoVI is) and in passing heard they're delayed for parts manufacturing.

I don’t see the Salish on the schedule. Is it replacing the Queen of New Westminster sailings or is the Queen of New Westminster still doing the sailings?

Has anyone else noticed that the service notices seem to no longer contain the affected vessel name but only the route?

Has anyone else noticed that the service notices seem to no longer contain the affected vessel name but only the route? It's been remarked on here before. Maybe it saves the junior staffer who actually composes the notice from having to look something up. It's annoying.

From a ferry fan and average person point view, I don’t see how anyone would find not having vessel name on service notice to be that confused, it more confusing not to have vessel name because I don’t know what vessel it is affecting with multiple vessels on the route.

This seems like a slightly oddly worded notice... haven't seen it before. Our 1:50 pm sailing from Mill Bay to Brentwood Bay departed 21 minutes behind schedule due to the crew taking time to get extra vehicles loaded where possible given today’s heavy volume of traffic.Wonder what nooks and crannies they'd find onboard the wee Klitsa to stash those extra vehicles.

Just going shopping and seeing the number of huge pickups and SUVs in parking lots... I wonder where people get the money to buy these things, and the gas to fuel them.

I wonder where people get the money to buy these things, and the gas to fuel them. I've been wondering that, too. New trucks (and some used) have become obscenely expensive in recent years. A new base SR trim Toyota Tacoma Extra Cab with the smallest output engine and no options starts near $33,000 USD. But, that's a pretty stripped version. An SR5 model with the up-level turbocharged engine, 4WD, and some of the optional safety features (the way I would want it) is around $43,000, all for a truck that's not even lavishly appointed.

QOB trip 1 departing HSB 0615 cancelled QOB trip 2 departing DB 0840 cancelled
trip 3, 4, 5, 6 in question
* * * oh... and this is completly unrelated to yd when they had to run entire day single ended (this is worth a huge laugh as well)

Regarding this morning's service notice about route 2...
How can there be 'berth congestion' at Departure Bay when there's only one route, two vessels, three berths, and sailings every 140 minutes or so?

Both Queen of Coquitlam and Coastal Inspiration are both tied up the other two berths at Departure Bay.

the berth congestion is due to the incompetence of upper mgmt. tbf, the situation is not their fault, but they can (and should) be held accountable for illogical thinking leading to their reaction.
i have almost the complete story. would just continuing here be the best venue for it, or on the QOB thread? or on the idiot passengers/(now idiot mgmt) thread?

Vessel needs to stored somewhere when out of service. The Queen of Coquitlam has random schedules right now so the best bet for her is at Departure Bay. Coastal Inspiration is undergoing maintenance on drive motor so, which the Coastal Class don’t seem to go Deas Island Maintenance Yard.

nono.... the parking situation isnt what i mean. ill explain later. Just be sure to do at least 5 more posts before you actually post what you've been building-up to. Keep it all lower-case, and use at least two cryptic acronyms per post. Avoid using apostrophes, because then we can interpret the "I Will" contraction as being synonymous with "Sick" meaning good or cool or something desirable. I will check-in next weekend to read what happened ...all in good silly fun. Hey, at least I'm reading the forum.
