Apparently the Isabelle X will be hanging around in Nanaimo for another couple of months. Lots of opportunities for photos. It dwarfs any of our west coast ferries.

Amazing thing about tugs is that I bet if you gave that tiny tug a few minutes, she could probably start hauling that behemoth along at a couple of knots.

The Isabelle Floatel has left Nanaimo, it looks like it’s either going to Vancouver again or to Howe Sound.

I did get photos, but Hullo is not good for photos at all as the windows are all covered in dried up salt spray. The photo below was taken through the front windows (which are a little cleaner) & needed a major crop.

I think it was a bunkering trip, supplies/food, and sewage tank pump out. Almost everything else can be taken care of by launch at the anchorage.

I remember taking a day cruise from Finland to Sweden on the sister to the Isabelle (the Viking Line Amorella, now the Mega Victoria of Corsica Ferries). It was amazing watching the ship navigate the very tight channels on the Archipelago Sea between Turku and Mariehamn).

I was in Nanaimo a few weeks back and asked a taxi driver if they had any cruise ship business there-he proudly pointed out the Isabelle at rest in the harbour.
He was also quite enthused about the Hullo operation since his business can be on the sleepy side in Nanaimo anything that gets people moving is a positive.

In one of the media reports about V2V there was mention of its failure, and a report that HULO is looking at expanding to 6 vessels and servicing Victoria. First news on that!
