I wonder if all of Markus' portaging tires survived all the way to Las Palmas to have their tire pressure checked! I would think that the fuel consumption would have been LOW on this leg of the journey due to the slower speed selected for a more efficient transit. I believe that the posted consumption was based on a higher "in-service" speed. However, that might also have been based on a shorter "service day", so the numbers might balance out. Again, I am not highly versed on this, but this would be my arm-chair observation. Perhaps we can get some input from aboard the vessel?

wow- she is a bulk carrier ;D edit: Thanks to Jens Hinderks, our guarantee engineer on board, for sending me this picture! Quite so, Markus! Please thank Jens for us and let him know that there is a large appetite for any other pics he cares to share either during or after the journey!

wow- she is a bulk carrier ;D Only for the delivery voyage, with all that cargo she's carrying on the vehicle decks. Once she's commissioned, she'll officially be a passenger ferry.

I imagine it may take her a full three weeks to do the trans-Atlantic part of her voyage.

Well, it looks like we can add one more image to our monitoring activities: North Atlantic weather satellite image. BTW, this image updates at regular intervals.

So how will we define "arrival"? Will it be when she is first visible from BC waters, when she first enters BC waters, or when she makes port for the first time in BC?
BTW, the pool will be closed to new entries when the CR reaches the Pacific Ocean.

Well, I guess we could call this the "orbit coast stage" of the delivery voyage, as the CR's course and speed is going to be constant for the next few days as she approaches the Caribbean. We expect her to cross the Mid-Atlantic Ridge in about two days.

If I can still enter the pool, my estimate is December 2nd.

Don't worry. I won't close the pool until the CR is in the Pacific Ocean.

The Final Countdown notwithstanding, I will go with 7 Dec/07 (2007-12-07). While not as big as the USS Enterprise (CVN-65), I think having the CR warp back to the 'day of Infamy' would be pretty cool. Of course, the location is no where near Hawaii or even the Bermuda trapezoid (errr, triangle) but being that it is close to Victoria, we might put in for our own little "Blackhole of Logic" around the provincial legislature buildings ...

Ah yes, I downloaded Europe's "The Final Countdown" a few days ago, and that track definitely reminds me of this delivery voyage.

We should be able to figure out how long it takes once she is past Oregon. It took us about 16 hours on the Norwegian Star to sail from Astoria Oregon to Vancouver. If she enters the Jaun De Fuca strait in the morning she should be passing Victoria and the Gulf Islands during daylight hours hopefully. We left Astoria at 4:30pm on the Norwegian Star and were out by Victoria by around 3:30am so that gives us a bit of a rough estimate. 11 hours from Astoria to around Victoria.

Yeah, and another black hole around 1112 Fort Street.
I'll be ambitious and say December First.

re Nanaimo Daily News column on Nov.7/2007: Columnist Valerie Wilson wrote a column re the new Coastal Renaissance, the shipbuilding issue, along with general comments on Gov't subsidy and the fare increases. But here is how she started out her column: Valerie, thanks for noticing us.

But here is how she started out her column: Valerie, thanks for noticing us. Interesting that they are getting so much attention, and not just in this one forum... Hmmmm... we should hunt down some of those other forums and convince their members to join us here to deepen the discussion. (Maybe). And I'll be slightly less optimistic than John, and say Nov. 30 for the CR. Even the Atlantic crossing is going so fast, I'm not sure where they got the 45 day estimate from, unless transiting Panama is a hurry up and wait scenario and she'll be stuck there for a while, or they anticipate heavy weather coming up the Pacific side.
