With all the problems besetting the Salish class vessels, perhaps we should delineate the folks at Remontowa Shipyards as 'refitters' and not builders. Correct me if I'm wrong but overall weren't the final results from Flensburger for the 'Coastals' and the 'Northern Expedition' somewhat better? Let's hope the Damen builders in Romania do a first-rate job on the newest batch of 'newbies' that will join our fleet in the not too distant future. I think once they work out all the glitches on the Salish Class, they would hopefully they become reliable. I personally, think BC ferries is going to get crap out Damen builders in Romania because it seems like Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Ferries are having the same problems with the M/V Veteran and M/V Legionnaire. I was going to point out the fact you raise about the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Ferries having problems with the 2 vessels they've had delivered from Damen's Romanian shipyard. I hope you're right about the long-term (health) of the Salish class vessels!

The Salish Raven is heading out of Departure Bay now with a tug (the David J) escorting her out past Newcastle Island.

After spending part of the day at Tsawwassen, the Salish Raven has returned to Departure Bay and docked back at berth 1.

And in today's Salish Raven report, she has left Departure Bay and appears to be doing a little toodle around the Strait.
Is the Queen of Cowichan involved in a marine rescue? There is a cluster of boats around the Jing Yu in the middle of the Strait, and the Cowichan is out of position and near the cluster.

The Salish Raven went out into the Strait for a while today and then somewhat comically went repeatedly back and forth in straight lines across Departure Bay. Now, she's headed back up to Comox, and is showing on the schedule there for tomorrow. The Salish Orca has left Comox and is heading south.
It's always fun watching unusual ferries do unusual things in the bay.

The Salish Orca came in to Departure Bay overnight and is tied up to berth 1 this morning. Are these meandering 'trips' being undertaken to work out bugs in the system or is the 'Salish Orca' really trying to plot the best course to Gilligan's Island?

Raven is replacing the Orca whilst the Orca is in Refit. The Orca left Departure Bay overnight, and I see from MarineTraffic that she's at Deas now.

Today the Queen of Coquitlam seems to be out for a jaunt around the Strait of Georgia. She's passing by Departure Bay, heading north.
Edit: Two hours later, she has come in to Departure Bay and is at berth 3. Maybe she's going to take over for the Oak Bay?

Departure Bay has just gotten REALLY busy. The Queen of Coquitlam is at berth 3. The Queen of Oak Bay just came in to berth 2 on its regular run. And now the Coastal Renaissance is on its way in now too, heading to berth 1, I assume! There's a crane barge on the shore side of berth 1 as well.

The Queen of Cowichan has been tied up at Departure Bay for a while, but this morning she's not there. I had a look on BC Ferries' site to see if she's on the schedule today and she's not, so I checked Marine Traffic. It looks like she's being towed over to Vancouver (drydock?) by the Seaspan Raven tug. From the data on Marine Traffic, it looks like she's been towed the entire distance (slow speed, travelling for 3 hours so far). I wonder what's up?
Edit: BC Ferries tweeted about it.

With the modified schedule between Horseshoe Bay and Departure Bay tonight due to the storm, there is some congestion at Departure Bay. The Queen of Cowichan is at berth 3. The Queen of Coquitlam was at berth 2, but now the Queen of Oak Bay is coming in to unload and reload and head back over to Horseshoe Bay. The Coquitlam has pulled out of berth 2 and is just kinda hanging out in Departure Bay. I assume she'll vaguely toodle around in the bay and wait for the Oak Bay to head out, and then pull back into berth 2 for the night.

Looks like the Salish Eagle is sitting off Comox waiting to take over for the Raven... Explains that weird service notice about the Eagle and emergency slide drills at Comox the next couple weekends...
Edit: Sure enough, the Raven looks Tsawwassen bound.
