The Queen of Coquitlam is finally being pulled out of Deas. At the same time, the Queen of Alberni is being pulled into where the Coquitlam was sitting. I'd assume the Coquitlam will now head to Departure Bay?

If the Coquitlam is being returned to service & possibly as the MD vessel on Route#2, If so that would leave the Cowichan avialable for route #30 an she would be a better fit tht The VAcouver because she is a faster boat.

Again, Tsawwassen crews are not trained on the evacuation chutes on the C-Class vessels (except the Alberni which uses LSA slides). BCF wants to maintain overheight capacity on Route 30. The Vancouver may operate at a slower service speed, but she has more overheight capacity than the Cowichan, Coquitlam, Oak Bay and Surrey.

Thanks for the info?
The Cowichan was on route #30 for a while in the spring
After the Vs have retired will the QofNW be the likely subistute Vessel on route #30 when 1 of the regular vessels is in for re fit?

The Cowichan was on route #30 for a while in the spring Yes, but she was under a Duke Point crew. After the Vs have retired will the QofNW be the likely subistute Vessel on route #30 when 1 of the regular vessels is in for re fit? The most likely substitutes to maintain OH capacity in that case would be the New West and the Coastals.

We watched the Alberni being eased into Deas Dock a few hours ago, by no less than 3 tugs. Currently, from west to east the following vessels are in Deas: Q Tsawwassen, Klitsa, NorAd, P. Josephine & Q Alberni.

Re: Rte-30 - as Scott correctly pointed out, the slower V's offer better capacity on Rte-30 than do the C-class. That being said, were they to get down to brass tacks and need the Vancouver as a spare on Rte-1, then BCFS will sail a C on Rte-30 to avoid having to send a C-class through Active Pass (and yes, yes, YES, we all know that C-class CAN do Active Pass, but only in Mode-2!).
The further problem, that Scott also identifies, is that Tsawwassen-based crews are not familiar with the evac systems on the C-class, nor are they up to speed on the "real" C-class boats.
This brings the issue of BCFS not spending the time/money to cross-train their crews enough to allow for easy boat substitution.
It also BONES us, in so far as WINTER replacement vessels -- IF Tsawwassen crews were trained on say "Coastals", then with the SoBC and SoVI holding down Rte-1, we could sub in the CC to pair with the CI on Rte-30 (and oh boy, would THAT piss off all the people on Rte-2!).

Well I was given a nice surprise today. The Queen of Coquitlam came and payed me a visit today. I was working on a house down near the water at Britannia Beach. I was too busy to really pay attention to my surroundings, until I heard a C-Class 3 tone horn! I thought, what the heck would have a horn like that out here. I originally figured it was the Britannia Mining museum, as they have a loud whistle that sounds off every once and a while. The horn sounded again, and I turned around to see where it was coming from. Sure enough, it was the Coquitlam steaming up Howe Sound. I guess they were adjusting the horn, because they kept on sounding the horn, in such a way as if they were experimenting with it, and it sounded way off. They weren't sounding as signals of any sort if that's what came to mind. She then proceeded to turn straight for Britannia Beach, in a Williamson turn. This is when a ship turns 60 degrees, and then immediately turns in the opposite direction until you're going the complete opposite direction that you were originally going. So this definitely made my day to sit and watch. Unfortunately, because I don't normally bring my camera to work for obvious reasons, I wasn't able to take any photos. So I'll have to leave it for the imagination.

The Northern Adventure is currently transiting Boundary Pass, heading from Victoria and most likely going to Deas.

The Queen of Surrey departed Deas at approximately 11:45AM bound for Horseshoe Bay. She is being pulled from refit to replace the Queen of Oak Bay which is having clutch issues.

The Queen of New Westminster is currently arriving at Swartz Bay. I'm curious to hear what Berth(s) she tries out while there.

Just glanced at Siitech a minute ago. The Queen of Surrey is now pulling into Esquimalt Harbour. Drydock time!

Having come out of Deas this morning, the Northern Adventure is out in the Strait of Georgia and it almost appears that it is getting towed by the tug Mercer Straits. She hasn't varied off approx. 7 knots and the tug has been directly in front of her since getting out into the strait. Seaspan Discovery has been on a watchful eye of the NorAd as well this afternoon.
My hunch is that it's off to Esquimalt for the NorAd.

She is headed to Esquimalt today - Scott and I ran into a crew member from her on the Van that said that. On the return sailing we then saw her in the Straight.

I'm looking at Siitech currently the Queen of Chilliwack is at Little River. Her Destination says Deas Dock. Maybe testing to see if she'll work on that route as a relief vessel for the Burnaby??

Yes, the chilliwack will be doing dock trials at comox and powell river. She will then proceed for refit. She will be used as relief for the burnaby when its in for refit and when the burnaby is replacing the nanaimo during her refit.

I was wondering the reason why I look out the window from my Socials 11 class and I see a boxy white barge that looks just like the Chilliwack turning toward Westview. Well actually I assumed it was out for docking trials. If I'm right, she will be the first double ended vessel (the 2nd out of Westview, the first being the Bowen Queen on the Texada route) to operate on the Comox route. ...and when the burnaby is replacing the nanaimo during her refit. WHAT!?! You mean we have to put up with the Chilliwack TWICE a year on the Comox route!?!...I'm speechless.
