No offense intended to anyone, but maybe we should focus on "quality", rather than quantity.
(the above sentence is 2.5 times the average size post by Klatawa teen, and also contains the daily average number of punctuation marks used by PR Teen).
And while I'm on the topic of being off-topic, during the Circle-Trip weekend, I never heard Karl "Laugh out loud" once, in person. What's the story with that, lol!

Everyone was laughing out loud at something. But just to make it clear for everyone, here's the translations for 'internet lingo"....

There are just some people that should not be unleashed onto an internet forum...

A cranky thought, to expand a bit on what HMCS Nanaimo was saying:
If we want this forum to grow a bit, and have a bit more variety in voices- and if we want people who stop in here to be interested in what they see....
Do we do it by encouraging people to post every little thought molecule that comes into their heads so they can get a 'title'? Those are the posts that I skim over and wonder why the person bothered. Quantity, and a manic posting finger, doesn't necessarily make for an interesting forum.

hornbyguy, if we were proper and PC all the time, that is essentially ruining the fun and the shape of what we have today. People who want to join can, it is their decision, I am not in the mood for change and we are fine as we are. The part I agree on is that quantity of one liners is unecessary, however, I do not want to see half page long reports per post. As always, there needs to be lines drawn in what is acceptable and unacceptable, and a balance.

If we were proper and PC all the time, that is essentially ruining the fun and the shape of what we have today. A bit of a counter-point to that. We can have a geat time, and still be relatively proper & definately PC. I think that we are currently having lots of fun & leisure on this board, alongside education and advocacy for issues we believe in. I personally have a lower post-count that most "regulars" on this board......and if you look at the top-posters, you will see a definite age-profile issue. (ie the higher-posters are the younger guys.....I mean, take a look at Harry's post count, and tell me if it adds up to a Pulitzer Prize?). Not to say that all younger posters aren't quality.....how dare I say something like that. I talked with a 15-year-old in Powell River about Union Steamships & the history of Quarrys on Texada Island, and it was a most interesting discussion. I've enjoyed reading posts & viewing photos of many younger posters (and by "younger", I would mean anything less than mid-thirties !). All I'm saying is that it's likely not a coincidence that all the top-posters re #-of-posts are people under the age of 25. Having a "non-Ferries" off-topic page helps to corral some of our silliness into one area, where it can be ignored by those who aren't interested. The forum Moderators are taking a more active stand in challenging some of the one-liner-posters to elaborate and to exchange hyperbole & rhetoric for "reasons that are open to discussion". Posts such as the following example will hopefully become a rarity (and I think they are already becoming pretty rare, unless we get another "British Invasion" of sorts...): bcf is privtised!!! « Thread Started on 8/28/06 at 17:21 » -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- oh my god in 2003 bcf was privatived and sold to the washington marine group for a ten year lease. thats why the logo was changed now bcf is not public that makes me so pi**ed ============================================

Good to see how much I've changed since back then.
I was full of sarcasm and over-punctuation in 2006. All that has changed by 2009..... ha ha.

Whoa, Flashback! It's almost strange to see how things have changed. Where has the time gone? It feels like this only happened yesterday. I was only at what, 4000-something posts neck and neck with Karl in posting numbers?, Now I'm at 5400 posts and Flugel is at the top of the post count with nearly 6000.
Do we even need forum ranks anymore? About 75% of our regulars are under the Voyager rank. It should at least have a smaller more reachable margin.

The voyager rank is not based on number of posts... there are other, more special qualifications. In regards to the other issue: I think Flugel has been secretly adjusting his post count. But since I seem to have missed the entire poll and voting yesterday anyway, I'll go with the dire response of, I don't really care.

I've secretly been amalgamating inactive-members' posts into my own profile. No, the actual sad truth is that I spend too much time in front of the computer....
