For those following the matches of Euro-2008, here's a spot to discuss, brag, cry or flame.
I like Germany (for ancestral reasons) and Portugal (for silly reasons such as their fiery coach, the nice uniforms, and the more sensible Ronaldo).
-------
Hey Neil, has Italy played yet?? ;D Yeah, I know it's still early, and they are the reigning World-Cup champs.......
-------------
Which participating nation has the most interesting ferry fleet?

I liked the cheeky remark from a German newspaper in response to British indifference to tourism in Germany... "That's okay; we'll refuse to play football with you this summer."
Poor England.

Form book is upside down.....
Holland and Germany look good...right now, but look out for Greece.
As for the best looking ferry fleet - with the best looking crews - then it has to be Italy....lot's of female crew members...nice tight uniforms also - plus with a suntan....well anything could happen....

Well, you could definitely call me a bit of a bandwagon jumper because I'm not a strong follower of football in Europe. However, it's hard not to get involved in these major tournaments.
Having said that, I'm involved in a pool for Euro 2008 where we had to pick which teams move on, specifically picking who places 1st & 2nd in each pool, and then filling out the playoff bracket straight thru to the winner.
I am pleased to say that 7 of 8 games so far have worked in my pool's favour, with the Sweden-Greece game being the only unfortunate one. I picked Italy & Netherlands to move on in Group C, so for the other game in that pool to end in a tie actually works out best for Italy's sake.
I work with a few colleagues with a European descent, and man are they talking (actually, more like arguing) about that controversial goal in yesterday's Italy-Netherlands game. I finally had to remind them that it doesn't matter because Italy lost 3-0, It wasn't a game changer! ;D

I don't know if it is a bad as here but the battle of the flags and processions of honking has started. Our neighbour two doors down has a lawn service. (Dan close your eyes) In the 35C heat yesterday the truck pulled up with four flags. Two Canadian, one Italian and one Portugese. The sides of the trailer were festooned with the flags that have all the teams combined on them. The guys in that heat all were wearing their team colours and some over their regular T Shirts. I asked them how they got along if the two teams were playing and the "driver/owner" said, "Dona ask", rolled his eyes and put his head in his hands. Since he is the owner he has the game on in the cab of his truck and gives updates to the boys when they are done mowing/blowing/trimming. Even in 35C heat I don't think I have ever seen them work so fast.
Toronto being the multicultural city it is there are areas where you can find the various celebrations of each team and then the all important Yonge Street. Little Italy and Little Portugal are two examples. Of course people are spread all over the city but many go to these areas to both watch the games in bars and restaurants and then to celebrate and comisserate.
Until last year I had an office in a very nice area called Bloor West. It has all sorts of boutiques, markets and bistro's. Numerous European Deli's as well. The socio-economic would be similar to Kits. That was a key Ukranian and German celebration area during the world cup.

Well, my pool picks have gone into the tank. My only pick remaining is Germany, which I have picked to win the whole thing. . .don't think I'm in the money at all, thanks to Turkey and Russia!
